Comments about VholdR VholdR Wearable Camcorder Bundle:

I've been trying to use this product snowboarding in the backcountry for the past month. The audio is absolutely horrible. Why have audio? You put the responsibility of 'fixing' the audio on the consumer. 'Put some tape on it with foam.' That still doesn't work well. Moreover, you only provide 1 mount with the camera, that CANNOT be moved! I have to buy more, as I assume most people do. Besides these minor concerns, my biggest concern is that you can ONLY view the videos on your Vholdr software. That is a complete monopoly! None of my skiing friends have that software, nor do they want it. So, I can't really share it with them. In this day and age, I should be able to upload it to Windows Media or the likes and simply share it with friends that way. Moreover, I have to import it from the camera to the Vholdr file, which for some reason takes much longer than it should. I WOULD LOVE TO RETURN THIS PRODUCT AS I'M VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH IT. I WILL TRY TO PUT IT ON EBAY I GUESS. I HIGHLY DOUBT I WILL USE THIS MUCH MORE. I WILL HAVE BETTER VIDEO AND AUDIO QUALITY IF I JUST MOUNTED MY DIGITAL CAMERA WITH A WATERPROOF CASE. COMPLETE WASTE OF MY MONEY!!

Abt Electronics Response: If you are not happy with the item you can return it within 30 days. Please contact our Customer Service Department for assistance at 888-228-5800.

Comments about VholdR VholdR Wearable Camcorder Bundle:

I recently got a VholdR for my birthday and couldn't be happier. This winter season I've already taken it out on several weekend snowboarding trips up in Mammoth and the VholdR has served me quite well. I use it for point-of-view footage as well as demo-style recording with my buddies.

This camera gives you excellent video quality and is so easy to use with your gloves. Even after a few spills, the VholdR won't fog up or freeze - it's built to last. My favorite features are the dual laser pointers and the goggle mount so I can make sure I get the right shot every time I go riding. There is not wasting my battery or camera memory when I set up, which is relief from all of the other wearable camcorders on the market.

I really don't have anything negative to say about the VholdR except that I wish they made the rotating mount like I saw on the vholdr video sharing community. It was basically a pole that orbits the rider's helmet and had a vholdr attached to the end looking back to the boarder. Great idea - I want one!

The VholdR camera has been the best piece of video recording that I've bought! For those interested in snowboarding, mountain biking, skateboarding, ATVing, or any other action sport, this is the Video Camera for YOU!Its small and versatile, easily attachable to any helmet, jacket, or bike/ride. It can hold up to 2 gigs of memory (alot of video time). Its extremely simple to use so those who aren't as tech saavy don't have to worry. Most importantly, this camera can take one heck of a beating. Ive ridden down some ridiculous MTB trails, enduring some nasty crashes. And while I haven't always come out of these crashes in tip top shape, this camera has!The VholdR website ([@]) also has a online community for users to upload their own videos. There are some sick videos out there; if you guys want to check out the potential of this camera, definitely check out this website's forum.

Comments about VholdR VholdR Wearable Camcorder Bundle:

This camera is great. Our riding club picked up a few VholdRs before our ride from Barstow to Vegas and we used the sticky mounts to attach the camera to my helmet and my friend's bike. The footage came out surprisingly good, being that I had been worried about light and vibrations. Luckily, the camera works quite well under low light situations, and the mount does a great job of limiting the vibrations it picked up from the bike. The footage from my helmet cam didn't really pick up any noticeable vibrations either. The feature that really sold me on the VholdR was the rotating lens. My helmet is completely contoured for aerodynamics, so I was able to mount it on top of my helmet instead of on the side where my face shield slides open & closed. We took turns with the cameras on the ride and came up with memories we'll never forget.Another great addition to this package was something I didn't even have to pay for, really. The software made editing our riding videos extremely easy and I was able to upload them to [...] with great ease. I can't say I'm the most adept with electronics nor am I a camcorder specialist, so the VholdR Desktop made my situation a whole lot simpler to work with. Plus, by sharing the vids online we were able to connect with other riders who use their VholdRs too!I definitely recommend the VholdR product to anyone who is interested in purchasing a handsless camera. I'd also go as far as recommending others to also purchase a few extra batteries and microSD cards if you plan on going on long rides like we do.

Comments about VholdR VholdR Wearable Camcorder Bundle:

I consider myself an "adventure enthusiast" and have always wanted to find a safe, inexpensive way to document my trail-chasing. Based on friends' recommendations I purchased my first VholdR camera back in July. Since then, I've taken my VholdR skydiving, mountain biking in Moab (UT) and hiking at Jackson Hole (WY) - and am anxiously anticipating the winter '09 snowfall so I can capture ski footage on some of my favorite mountain trails. To maximize the use of my VholdR camera, I've also acquired the Vented Helmet Mount, Flat Surface Mount and Goggle Mount because these allow me to focus on what I'm doing rather than fumbling with a shifty device.

There are many features I love about this camera, but one of the main things is its size. Since it weighs under 5 oz, I can never tell when I'm wearing it on my helmet. The dual laser and rotating lens are also crucial features because I can tell where the camera is pointing and which angle I want to shoot at. The video resolution (640x480) is pretty impressive, and I'm also a big fan of its user-friendliness. With one on/off button and one record/stop slider, you really can't mess up - even when I'm going full speed! The memory and battery life are great and I typically carry an extra battery and memory card on hand when heading outdoors all day.

The one feature I look forward to VholdR improving in the next model is the microphone and finding a way to reduce wind noise. I know that's a complicated issue to amend with any camcorder, so I consider it a pretty minor issue in comparison to all of the pros of the VholdR camera.

This camera works really well. It's simple to set up and aim and operate even with gloves on.
I did have a problem with the mount in that one of the two rails on the mount broke....making it not as stable as it would be if both were entact.
However, even with the one rail broken the camera stays put and still films well. I'll just be more careful when mounting the next piece.
EXCELLENT PRODUCT......I wish I had 3 more of them.

Comments about VholdR VholdR Wearable Camcorder Bundle:

** Setup **

I received the VholdR on a Wednesday and was going out to use it the next morning, so I spent a couple hours trying to get the angle of the camera on the helmet correct. Since it connects to the helmet using 3M two sided tape, you only get one chance at the correct mounting angle. I used scotch tape for 'practice' filming. Word of advice, start way further back on the helmet then you would think.

I finally mounted it where it looks like it is shooting the sky, but alas, when I used it during my ride, it was still too low. It turns out that when I ride, I tilt my head down even more then what I thought I did... blocking the sun, aggressive stance, or whatever.

The VholdR is not compatible with High Capacity cards(HCSD), so don't go and purchase the 4GB HCSD microSD card thinking you can hold more video. The current 1.0 camera firmware is not compatible with this type of memory card. You want to purchase the 2GB microSD card(s). I purchased two SanDisk 2GB microSD cards that comes with the adapter for the standard SD format. Now I can use this microSD card in my digital camera too.

The VholdR camera doesn't come with any memory cards, so you will need to purchase one separately from the camera. Make sure you format the microSD card when you get it to FAT32. The VholdR website has some information on how to do this.

** Using VholdR **

I filmed at Buttercup Sand Dunes for four days. I ended up with 2.5 gigabytes of footage. After each ride, I would connect the microSD card (using the included USB 2.0 adapter) to my Notebook computer to move the files. I made sure to charge the camera between all rides, so I would not end up with a dead battery. This worked out great. I never ran out of space or had a dead battery.

I only have a few concerns with the camera so far:

1) The 'back door' as VholdR names it came open a couple times when I did not expect it too. This was when I was trying to power on the camera while wearing the helmet. Solution: I recommend powering on the camera, then putting on the helmet.

2) A couple times during our long rides, VholdR would self power down when we stopped for a break. I would not know this and it caused delays when trying to start riding again. Solution: Every time you stop, take off your helmet and power down the camera. When you are getting ready to go, power on the camera and put your helmet on. When you are ready to start filming, you can start recording immediately. This worked great when I followed this procedure.

3) If you try to power on the camera when the record button in the record position, the camera will lockup. You have to remove the battery which performs a hard reset. I did this a couple times and had to remove the battery a couple times to fix it.

** Using the Desktop software **

The included software is OK and functional. The software is slow to respond when you have 10+ video files in the default directory. You can and probably should create subdirectories under the default directory. This will help the speed of the desktop software. There is no user feedback when doing most actions in the software. ie.. You double click on a sub-folder. The user interface just sits there like you did nothing, then about 20 seconds later, it switches to the subdirectory. Again this is related to the number of videos you have in your folders. I know that Twenty20 is working on improving the software, so it should improve.

I did not buy this camera for its software, so I don't use it much.

I'm a big fan of using freeware software, so I've found some software that could be helpful to you. NOTE: Use the following software at your own risk.

1) Video Flip & Rotate - If you happen to record some movies upside down (mounting the camera upside down). You can use this software and flip it. It will also rotate your movies.

2) Video Dub - Cut your recorded video as you want. Had a part of the video that you did not like, use this software and cut it out. This software uses lossless technology to preserve the video quality.

3) Audio Dub - Have some MP3 songs that you want to use in editing your video? Use this software and trim or merge songs as you want, so when you are building your final video, your songs are ready to be included.

Search for 'DVDVideoSoft Free Studio' for the above tools. I've used 4 or 5 of their free tools and so far they have worked out great. I have not experienced any malware, viruses, spyware, or adware in their software.

To view the recorded video on your computer, you will need the latest audio/video 'drivers' called codecs. I found a great bundled set of codecs called 'ACE Mega CoDecS Pack'. Use Google to find and download it. I like the free video player that comes with it called BSPlayer. Easy to use, loads fast, and intuitive controls. Once you have the latest codecs, you should be able to view the videos correctly. No picture, but you can hear the sound is a sign that you need to update your video codecs.

** Conclusion **

I think that this is one great camera. The VholdR is a well packaged / built camera. If your looking for a helmet cam and you don't want the hassle of power wires, lanc wires, A/V wires running to a camcorder, then this is a great camera for you.

Here is one of my first recordings with the VholdR camera: http://vholdr.com/node/1464

Service & Delivery comments:

Shipping and delivery was prompt and accurate. I had no problems with my purchase from Abt Electronics. The package was received packed with bubble wrap and was well protected. The VholdR box itself was out of recycled paper (I think) and it ripped while opening. Not a big deal.

I shoot action sports in colorado. received the v holder on time and the machine felt kind of flimsy espically in the back. by my mistake, I assumed the product was waterproof because almost all lipstick cams are these days. The website does not have much REAL info to tell you otherwise. The camera records at about 5 times faster than real time and the audio is real time. Contacted Vholder and they are sending another.

Great solid state video product with automatic laser focus, no moving parts. Manufacturer has a long list of accessories that will be available "in the future." Unfortunately, current owners need those "future" accessories now to utilize the camera. The best examples I can give is you cannot purchase spare batteries. That and the camera only comes with one mount for a flat surface. If you want to mount the camera on a very curved surface like my Arai motorcycle helmet, you are completely out of luck. The curved surface mount is another "future accessory."

Worked fine, as described on the manufacturer web site BUT there is no way this device is .04 Lux. You might as well have NO LIGHT when you are in a low light situation. Driving down the street with my car headlights at night, I could only get video if I was within 10 feet of another car and had both headlights directly on it. Anything to the left or right quickly faded into complete darkness. Everything else about the device is excellent. A quality built product.
