I bought this camcorder because I want to record HD movies on miniDV. It is no better time to purchase one because the price has reduced in anticipation of the new Canon HV40 and other ADVHC camcorders in April. The new ones are [$] versus [$] for the current models. This camcorder is more than enough for capturing HD videos. The ability to record to miniDV tape is a plus because it usually takes a while before I have time to edit my movies. Comparing with solid state storage such as hard drives and SD cards, MiniDV tapes are also good medium for long term storage.The picture quality is fantastic. The auto focus is quick but I notice some lag when focusing. Also, if there is another object in front of the camcorder, that tends to confuse the focusing. It works really well under low light condition. The firewire connection works seamlessly with my Mac and I have no problem transferring the footage for editing.On the negative side, the build of this camcorder is a little bit "careless" in my opinion. The case is made out of plastic and gives you a bit of a "cheap" feel to it. The door closing the miniDV tape deck is not snug. The eyepiece cannot be tilted up and it is kind of difficult to use. The layout of the buttons is also a bit awkward.Overall, this is an excellent camcorder that takes fantastic HD movies. The price right now is good.

This camera has excellent outputs and the picture quality is fantastic. I use this camera as a 2nd camera with my Professional HD camera ([...]) It looks great and has audio inputs to record from microphones or mixers.

I read several reviews and checked Consumer Reports before deciding on this product. It has not disappointed. I couldn't have asked for better performance at an outstanding price.
