Freezer Refrigerators
Top freezer refrigerators is the traditional type. The largest section of the unit is used for refrigeration and the top smaller section is the freezer. Some come with an icemaker or have the ability to have an icemaker added, but a water dispenser is a rarity. Large items can be stored in the refrigerator section and the freezer as well. Think of a large rectangular box; the top third of the unit is dedicated to the freezer and the bottom two-thirds is the refrigerator.
Side-By-Side Refrigerators
Side-by-side refrigerators are known for their large capacity and the ability to dispense ice and water through the door. The doors are narrower than other styles and don’t require as much room to open. The side-by-side is one-third freezer and two-thirds refrigerator. Instead of the freezer on top it is on the left third of the unit and the refrigerator is on the right two-thirds. A great benefit of the side-by-side is the food can be at eye level on the freezer and refrigerator side.
French Door & Single Door Bottom Freezer
Over the past few years, the Bottom Freezer refrigerator has grown in popularity. The large top portion is the refrigerator section, the smaller, lower portion is the freezer. For style, the French Door Refrigerator (2 doors on top, 1 drawer on bottom) is the choice for most kitchens. Not only does it look great, the functionality with the refrigerator on top as well as the ability for some units to dispense ice & water make this the kitchen’s best choice.
Under-Counter
This refrigerator fits directly under a counter top. Mostly used for beverages, they can also be used to store some food items in a more convienient location. These come in a single door option or a double drawer unit.
Counter Depth
Counter depth refrigerators are just like full-size refrigerators, with one major exception. They are usually 25”-27” deep as opposed to the standard full size at 30”-32” deep. These units come in a Side by Side or Bottom Freezer configuration.
Built-in
This style is as the name states – built-in. It’s the largest of the refrigerators and is built-in to surrounding cabinets. It can come in a variety of finishes depending on the brand or it can be integrated into the cabinets with panels. They come in 3 different styles: Side by Side, Bottom Freezer (including French door) and All Refrigerator/All Freezer. Due to the special nature of these units, we suggest you speak with an Abt salesperson when planning the purchase of a Built-in Refrigerator.
All-Refrigerators/All-Freezers
This is a unique concept for refrigeration; they are unlike any other type of refrigerator. The all-refrigerator and all-freezer are exactly what their name says. Each is a single column of refrigerator and freezer. They are unattached and many brands can be built into existing cabinetry. One of the special aspects of the all-refrigerator and all-freezer is that they can be side-by-side or they can have something in the middle separating them, like a wine cooler. Along with the built-in all-refrigerator and all-freezers, Frigidaire makes a model that is stand-alone.
