  • An under-the-counter compactor doesn't have a finished top and can be installed between cabinets. Trim kits are available for a flush console look. Make sure your measurements include the trim kit when installing your under-the-counter compactor.
  • A convertible compactor can be installed as freestanding or under-the-counter.

Trash compactor Safety tips and Maintenance guide

Safety

It its important that you do NOT place the following in the compactor:

  • Poisonous chemicals
  • Flammable chemicals
  • Explosive chemicals

Keep children away from the trash compactor. With crushing force ranging from 2,000 to 5,000 lbs., anything placed in the compactor will be crushed when compressed. Read all operating instructions before using.

Note: A full compactor bag can weigh as much as 50 lbs. Make sure you are able to lift that much weight before completely filling a bag. The more compact the trash, the heavier the bag:

  • Always carry a full bag by the top of the bag or use a bag caddy.
  • If you compact glass, the glass splinters may stick through the bag-be cautious.
  • Wear Thick gloves and carry all compacted garbage bags away from your body.

Maintenance

Except for occasional cleaning, compactors are virtually maintenance free.
For routine cleaning, use the following steps:

  • Always wear gloves when cleaning your compactor.
  • Before cleaning make sure the compactor is unplugged.
  • Remove the bag and caddy, or bin, and always follow the manufacturer's cleaning instructions.
  • Use warm soapy water to clean the inside and outside of the trash compactor.
  • Be sure to check and replace the air freshener or charcoal filter as needed.
