Celebrate Austrian Days with Recipes from Jolane's Chef Jose Guerrero
Chicagoland has more than 40,000 residents of Austrian descent and has
been called the most Austrian city outside of Austria itself (Here is
some history of Austrians in Chicago: http://tinyurl.com/kndyjdv.)
Two important days for Chicagoans of Austrian descent are approaching.
American Day is September 26 and Austrian
National Day is October 26.
Celebrate these important Austrian days at Jolane's
Restaurant and Bar located in Glenview. Jolane's offers American cuisine
with an Austrian flare. The restaurant was named after the Jolane (Jewel)
Abt, whose $800 opened Abt Electronics with her husband Dave back in 1936.
Jewel was an Austrian immigrant with an independent spirit, a savvy business
woman and a dedicated wife and mother who always made sure a homemade
meal was on the table every night. The delicious home-style cooking served
at Jolane's is a tribute to the memory of the Abt family matriarch.
