Abt Electronics and City of Chicago up the Ante for 2nd Annual Earth Day Challenge
Tuesday, April 22nd is Earth Day and there is no better time to highlight the companies that truly standout by reducing their carbon footprint. One such business is Abt Electronics and Appliances right in Glenview, IL. Most notably is their on-site 12,000 square-foot recycling center, where customers can safely dispose of electronic waste. Energy-saving windmills, lighting, fans and solar panels help power Abt, which are just a few of the retailer’s many green initiatives.
Leaving a small environmental footprint has become a core value for this third-generation family run business.
In February 2012, Illinois EPA named Abt one of the 15 Chicago Area Green Fleets for their use of biodiesel in its diesel truck fleet, their 30 vans that use E85 ethanol fuel and two vans that run on natural gas. Abt’s fleet is ‘green’ right down to the maintenance of their vehicles. The used oil, oil filters, coolant, and batteries from all of the trucks get recycled. The trucks are even washed in recycled water.
This year, Abt, in partnership with the city of Chicago, will expand their reach by establishing a total of six electronics and appliance recycling collection sites set up around the Chicago area:
