A common question we hear at Abt, “What are LCD TVs?” It actually means Liquid Crystal Display or LCD. These flat screen TVs are comprised of two glass panels filled with liquid crystals. The front glass panel is etched into a grid pattern (a template) so the liquid crystals can be filtered by light. The crystals serve as intelligent shutters, allowing light to pass or act like a roadblock. The patterns of light and dark crystals determine the image on an LCD TV.
The advantages of LCD TVs are not limited to great still image quality. A computer can benefit from an LCD monitor because of their high screen resolution and graphics capability. They have an exceptionally bright picture and they don’t take up a lot of space (because they can be wall mounted). LCD TVs also weigh less than earlier varieties of flat screen TVs, and they have a long, fairly maintenance-free life.
There are quite a few brand offerings for 1080p LCD televisions. Some disadvantages to owning LCD televisions are the short delays in fast-moving pictures—37” and less handle the delay best.
