Somat Salt is used to soften water dishwashers. Water from the tap often contains lime. In order to reduce the lime deposited on dishes in the dishwasher, some dishwashers have a water softening unit which withdraws the harmful lime from the water. Table salt is not suitable for water softening in dishwashers because it usually contains insoluble components which can affect the efficiency of the water softening unit.

All Miele dishwashers have a built-in water softener to optimize cleaning results. To function perfectly, this softening unit requires special salt. Miele recommends using Somat Salt.
