Overall this is a very good product. The primary reason I gave Quality an average rating is because the faucet base is plastic. While this is not a deal breaker by any means, I am not a fan of plastic because it has a tendency to break and discolor. Otherwise this is a very good product. My only other complaint is with the installation instructions. There are four hoses which must be connected, two of which you plug *into* a gasket, one of which you plug onto/around a metal connection, and one which you must plug into a gasket on one end, and onto a metal connection on the other. Plugging the hoses onto the metal connector is not a problem, but when connecting the hoses into the gasket, when it initally feels like the hose is connected, it is not. The hose must be pushed through the initial 'click' feeling to create the proper seal, and the instructions do not mention this. Perhaps this is something which someone with more experience with plumbing-related installations would understand, but this being my first water filtration system, it took a few puddles for me to figure it out. However, now that it's working, our water tastes great!

I like the operation of the unit itself but the instructions are confusing and incomplete. I ended up having to replace the previous unit (same model) that I had because during the process of "changing the filters" there were leaks because of the configuration of the tubing and the difficulty trying to replace any of the very small flow control, cone screen, and auto shut-off valve.   The worst part is the when you first install the unit, the directions are confusing.  For example, on the page  8 of the manul for installing the faucet, the directions (3) tell you to install the two black tubes into the fittings on the bottom of the faucet.  The directions (4) then tell you to align the gasket, which is impossible if you have already followed the instructions in step (3). The "Housing - RO membrane" (part No. WS20X10006) is extremely hard to physically remove it from the Bracket Holder, even when you are first installing it. The other problem happens when you try to screw on the Cap end on as the pre-assembled tubing does not give you enough length to maneuver the cap.  You are forced to reinstall the “Housingâ€ and then try to put the Cap end on. In both the old unit and the new replacement, there was a leak where the fitting in the “Housingâ€ cap was not secured into the Cap correctly causing a leak when the water is turned on.  No where in the directions (either in the directions for the old unit or the revised updated (11-09) does it suggest to check the fitting.  So this causes you to have to remove the “Housingâ€ to correctly insert the fitting correctly, which then causes water to flood the area because there is not enough length of the tubing to turn the “Housingâ€ unit upward. I dread having to change the filters at the recommended every 6 months because of the design and difficulty of removing the “Housingâ€ and then disconnecting the tubing.  The small parts, which are pre installed in the unit when you buy it have to be removed, cleaned and then reinserted.  There is no guideline to help you ensure you are putting the small parts back in the correct order.

Works great

Comments about GE Reverse Osmosis Filtration System:

I have one of these units in my office. It's been in operation for several years and works great. I just bought another one to install in my home. If you drain the pressure tank, it takes a little bit to fill back up, but that's the case with all RO systems.

I bought this after constantly smelling chlorine and MCHM. I just don't trust the quality of water. Both my wife and I can tell the difference right away.

Undersink Modification Required

By

from Colorado

Comments about GE Reverse Osmosis Filtration System:

After experiencing a overpressure in the waterline into the drainvalue within the sinkbase from the small black relief line to it and the larger black drain line that dumps into the main plumbing. Contacted customer service and was instruced to buy a newer model and seek a instore credit. My decision was to cut the smaller black felief tube to bypass the vent inside the base of the dispencer. I cut the large black drain tube from the base of the dispencer and then inserted the smaller relief tube into the larger drain tube. This bypassed the vent option at the base of the dispencer and drains direct. Overpressure leak solved and works great without thd expensive costs of loss and replacement.

I am shocked this is a GE product

By

from Lynchburg, VA, United States

Comments about GE Reverse Osmosis Filtration System:

I just took the unit out. It never did alert me to the 6 month filter replacement. I checked that the battery was still good and it was. It has been refilling the holding tank constantly for the last two months (running water down the drain, never shutting off after the tank was full). I wondered why my water bill was so high. The water pressure coming from the RO tap has dropped. There will be no more GE products for me.

Feel this device has contributed to our health by providing clean safe water for our cooking, ice maker and drinking. Not comfortable drinking and cooking with city water no matter what the local water agency may say about water quality.

REVERSE OSMOSIS

By

from Orlando, fl

Comments about GE Reverse Osmosis Filtration System:

1. The capillary tube inside the counter top water valve was clogged. 2. What is the purpose of the large white tank with the diaphram inside, what should the pressure be inside the tank, it is presently at 35 lbs.
