We remodeled our kitchen in '06-07 and the appliances included a GE Profile mid size microwave for cabinet mount installation. Unfortunately it died after 10 years - perhaps this is the longevity of currently manufactured appliances? Anyway, replacement options for cabinet installation were extremely limited so I bought the latest model of the old unit. EXTREMELY unfortunately, due to my dead unit being 10 years old I ALSO had to purchase the NEWER TRIM KIT (the old trim would not fit the new unit, esp. in terms of the base pan, and I much prefer the appearance of the older kit). The unit functions fine, and seems to have more power than the old one. Control pad layout and door opening mechanism are a bit different but are easy enough to adjust to, given we've been programmed to the old unit for ten years. It functions very well and is used multiple times daily. I have no complaints but only questions.... I have some kitchen appliances (e.g.- a two-station milkshake mixer inherited from my grandmother, likely manufactured in the late '40's) that still work just fine. Yet major appliances like refrigerators, microwaves, clothes washing machines, etc., take a dump within 10 years of service. I'm always happy with how my appliances function when new. I'll be even happier when they're functioning as new 10 years into service.

I bought this microwave to replace the predecessor of this model that I had for 15 years. As soon as the deliveryman took it out of the box, I was immediately struck by the fact that it felt much less solid than my previous model. Many of the materials feel quite flimsy, although I will acknowledge that the overall look of the microwave is quite attractive. I bought this specific model because it is the only one that fits in the cabinet niche. As others have mentioned, it is very hard to read the display as the print is very light gray and does not offer enough contrast with the background. The timer buzzes once when time is up and if you are not in the room when it goes off, you will not realize that it has gone off. The previous microwave timer would beep continuously until you turned it off and was a much better system. Also, the button that you push to open the door is stainless steel, which is attractive, yet obviously will retain fingerprints. It's difficult to clean because it pushes in when you try to wipe it. The microwave seems to reheat/defrost/cook adequately for my purposes, although it does seem to be a little inconsistent.

Comments about GE Profile Series 1.1 Cu. Ft. Slate Countertop Microwave Oven:
We were looking for a microwave that would serve our purpose and it had to be a countertop version. This fit our needs perfectly and we are extremely happy with our GE purchase.

NICE LOOKING UNIT AND FILLS THE GAP
THE PRODUCT IS COMPACT, WORKS GREAT AND MEETS OUR NEEDS W/RESPECT TO A MICROWAVE
Unit is very quiet. Controls are hard to see and hard to press. Otherwise, it works.

The only one that works

If you want a microwave to put up in a cabinet that's not deep, then this is the one for you. We wanted to build one in to our Ikea cabinets and this worked perfect. The 'reheat' functions for leftovers works surprisingly well - this is the first microwave where I've consistently used that feature. The only thing I wish was different was that closing the door feels a lil loud.
Attractive, compact design and easy to use.

We replaced an 8 year old GE Profile just like this one. Our cabinet space is shallow and this model fits the bill. Quiet, easy to use, does the job without confusing and unnecessary functions. Nice design.
Glad to find a replacement not happy w/door sound!

Greetings, our 12 year old GE microwave stopped heating, so finding a replacement was needed. Its a small unit & didn't want to change our cabinets, glad to find a replacement from GE, noticing the door when you close it sounds like TIN not solid, also notice that this new microwave doesn't heat at the same time while using the timer. Its one or the other. The old GE model did. Don't understand why companies change models that worked great the old way. The new & improved for this model sure doesn't apply. I was also hoping to find a conviction microwave that would fit this smaller model....not so.

I purchased this microwave to fit in an existing space that my previous GE microwave had been installed. I needed another microwave with a depth of 12 inches and this fit perfectly.

We bought this model because it would fit into our cabinet as if it was a built in unit. It is rather small inside, but we are using it to just warm things up.

I am very happy with this microwave. I love all the one-press cook times: 30 sec, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 etc minutes. I use the timer and set my own cook time too. I don't use any of the programs so no comment about those. I was using a small 25-yr old microwave, and this GE is a pleasure. Tons of power for my needs.

I bought this unit to replace a similar one that I purchased in 2001. Although my older unit was working, a check with a microwave leakage device indicated a leak around the latch side of the door. A second test using my cell phone also indicated a leak. The newer unit was purchased in stainless steel vs the white finish of my older unit. The first issue that I have is with the cheaper sound and feel of the door as it is being opened and closed. The second issue is with the lack of responsiveness of the touch pad control panel. The third issue that I have is with the depression in the center of the top of the outside of the unit. My final observation is that the unit takes longer to boil water, thus longer to cook items.
