I had a GE Profile Advantium model PSA1201RSS01 over the range microwave for more than 3 years. It was very loud on the exhaust vent fan and even opening and closing its door was loud and noisy. Recently the motor on the vent fan went out and I decided to replace the entire microwave instead of repairing the vent motor. Since I didn't use the Advantium portion I decided to go for the latest GE over the range microwave without the Advantium feature. I purchased the GE Profile PNM9216SKSS (Stainless steel color) over the range microwave from Home Depot and I installed it myself and with the help of my wife. This new microwave's backplate screw holes are not in the same locations as the holes for the previous microwave's backplate. Also the screw hole locations and the hole for the power cord at the top for the cabinet are not in the same locations either. So I had to drill new holes to do the installation. After the microwave was installed I can see that it is not only beautiful but the vent fan is quieter, the opening and closing of the door is quieter as compared to my previous microwave and I love its cool white LED light that is over the range. I also did purchased the extended 5-year warranty for it. Hopefully I will have several years of use with my new GE over the range microwave.

We bought all GE profile appliances because of their reputation. This microwave has been a bit of a thorn in my side .... partially because I'm just not used to it yet. I am a creature of habit and am having a hard time adjusting to some of the differences on this unit compared to the last several I've owned. Mainly, this one doesn't have a number pad. I always liked being able to push "2" for two minutes cooking, "3" for three minutes etc. This model doesn't have a number pad and the only quick cook feature I've found is "add 30 seconds" so I just push it repeatedly to add up to the number of minutes I want. Also, it's primarily operated by the dial and you have to push so many buttons and turn the dial and push more buttons before it starts cooking ... I like just pushing one button. Anyway, I'm optimistic that with time it will get more familiar and not so annoying.

Not as many features as I thought it had

This doesn't have as many features as I thought it did. Very basic. You have to go through 3 different steps just to set the number of minutes you want it to cook and start it. The light over the range isn't very bright. I miss my old microwave. This one dosen't seem to be made nearly as well.
Lots of ways to cook and heat your food.
Had the unit for almost 3 months and we like the options available to cook your food. We haven't tried all the features yet since there are many of them. We had a 1300 watt model before so this 1000 watt unit takes a bit longer to cook but that was expected. The rotary-dial cook button took a couple days to get used to [push a button, turn the selection dial [for time], push a button, turn the selection dial again [for heat range ], then push the round rotary button to start. It spins the food but has an option not to I believe. Overall, we're happy with it.

One complaint -- the keypad does not have a back light so need to have a light on in the kitchen to see the various slections
Nice unit, big capacity.

Didn't like dial when received, now I do. Much bigger than my prior GE over the range microwave.
Wonderful update to my kitchen

Took some getting used to the dial to make selections, but now I see how it increases options for cooking, reheating, etc. The black interior hides splatters well. The light for over the stove has two settings which is nice.

Looks and performs great. Very Efficient microwave.
Good microwave except for labels on buttons
from Longview, TX, United States
This microwave is great except one flaw. The button labels are not backlit and they are in gray on black so they are hard to see in low light....poor job on this, GE. Other than that, it seems like a good unit. It's quite and efficient.
Control panel not backlit, turntable doesn't turn
from Centreville, VA, United States
Bought as replacement for old Advantium. Controls are ok functionally, however we have to use a flashlight to see the lettering on the controls - there are no symbols, the lettering is very small, and it is not backlit (photo). Installation was very straightforward. cooks ok but at 1000 watts less than the old Advantium. The turntable only works if nothing heavier than a paper plate of food is on it - the mount doesn't come up enough to catch the glass turntable plate, or else the wheels are too high on the rollers. The glass plate just rolls off, if you can even get it to catch (photo). Have already had to call in GE Repair one week after installing it.

Have only used it for a few weeks and is working fine - One thing I wished it had was a back-light for the touch screen.
