I want to be blunt about a couple of things to start. Firstly, I am a novice photographer. Most of my understanding of photography came from researching the camera I wanted to buy. Secondly, this is my first camera of any competitive caliber. That said, this is the camera I chose after much research. It has very much lived up to and surpassed my expectations in most ways. That said (part II), it is not perfect and the rating given is for its placement in the camera hierarchy. I think, if someone is looking for an all around, best bang for the buck camera for daily use, family portraits/life moments, compact carry, and even artistic photography within an affordable price range, the a6000 is probably what they are looking for. I've read criticisms of the low light performance, and it can be hard to tweak.... but I have gotten some decent images outside after midnight. The clarity is impressive, in general. The speed lives up to the hype. This said, there are some justifiable criticisms. It can be stubborn in the dark when it can't focus on what you are aiming at - in other words, it relies on its own computer focusing instead of trusting the user. Sometimes it is right, sometimes you just wish it would do as it is told, if only so you can get an idea of how to adjust the settings. There is no touch screen or mic jack. The fastest shutter speed is a "mere" 1/4000, which is fine for what it is, but there is a bit of a contrast with faster cameras. I'm sure they could have hit 1/16000 with its electronic nature without much of a price increase. I suspect Sony didn't want to make its higher end cameras completely irrelevant.

The camera body is excellent, but the lens selection is a BIG disappointment. In particular the lack of fast zooms. Anyone moving from the world of Canon and Nikon DSLR's is used to be able to get quality f/2.8 zooms, and there's one crazy fast f/1.8 Sigma zoom available. But in the e-mount world, the quality zooms only go to f/4. Very dissapointing.

Great camera, lousy battery life

Comments about Sony Alpha a6000 Mirrorless Digital Camera With 16-50mm And 55-210mm Lens Kit:
Have used it for six months, including trip. Pictures are great specially with the Zeiss 32/1.8 touit lens, not so much with the Sony E 55-210. Battery life is bad, battery goes down even with the camera off, like from 100% to 81% in two days.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

First Time / Big Time Camera
Excellent so far!
Great pictures for travel, easy to handle
I received this camera from Sony support in exchange for a non repairable camera. At the time all they had was white. I would never buy a white camera myself, but that doesn't affect picture quality which is excellent. I am amazed by how good the jpegs right out of the camera really are - properly exposed and with good white balance. RAW files also lend themselves to post processing if desired. I wish there were more affordable prime lenses, especially in the telephoto range. Sony has pretty much switched their lens production over to the larger full-frame cameras, which I don't want or need.

I have had this camera since October 2014 and have taken it on trips to Dubai, Philippines, France, Los Angeles, Washington DC. Takes amazing photos, very light, easy to use. I even dropped it once on a concrete floor and it works just as well as before the drop (it got a few scratches)! The price is amazing for what you get. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. I will definitely be getting the next version when it comes out if I can save up for it. The only regret - not buying it sooner than I did!
Focus is POOR
We are a two A6000 family and are replacing both as we "speak". I am unable to achieve sharp focus on either body with either lens - a SONY 18-200 and a similar Tamron. Smaller than F/8 all is sharp - but so is a $29 drugstore camera. More than f/8, I get sharp focus only with DMF - if I use DMF, focus is fine - I touch up the autofocus by a turn of the DMF ring, sharp focus. I've tried with a tripod and remote shutter, so it isn't my shake - the autofocus is fast but poor. Calls to Sony and a software upgrade improved the camera to poor - but, for now, it is an f/8 lens with medium quality results.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
A6000 Lens-to-photograph Quality Challenges DSLRs
from Los Angeles, CA 90045, USA
This camera has replaced my big, bulky DSLRs. The reason we went to DSLR cameras was the photo quality from lens, to sensor, to printed or displated photographs. The Sony A6000 camera gives us the lens-to-photograph quality of the best DSLRs.
Made a believer out of me!
from Athens, GA 30606, USA
We needed an upgrade from a decent but slow camera. After research, I narrowed down to a Sony a6000. It's like a dream come true. All the features of the camera can make even a beginner seem like a professional. The auto focusing, tracking, 11 fps, and the list goes on. Best price for a camera that compares with high end professional cameras.

The "Jack of All Trades"
You can't beat this camera for features at this price. DSLR's at three times the cost can't beat it!!
Having a great time getting wonderful photos. Shots from Macro (with the 18mm-55mm lense) and 210mm zoom (with the 55mm-210mm telephoto lense) are crisp and clear. My wife loves the skin smoothing in Portrait mode.
