The Asus Vivobook E403SA is twice the price of the other "wow that's a cheap Windows laptop" laptops. What do you get for that price hike? 1. Twice the number of CPU cores. It does come out to just about exactly twice as powerful as the N3050 that's in a ton of the $200 models. 2. 30% stronger GPU 3. A 1080p display which is pleasantly matte and very sharp. 4. A lot more storage. You usually get 32gb with the $200 models, sometimes 64gb for a few bucks extra. This has 128gb. 5. Improved battery - most laptops half this price run for 8-12 hours, and this does indeed run for right around 14 hours. 6. Twice the RAM. It helps, especially when we're talking 2gb vs 4gb. 7. One USB Type-C port supporting quick charging. This IS going to matter a lot more in a few years. Other strengths worth noting: The screen bezel is rather nice, it's notably thinner than any competitors I've found. It's very thin and quite light, without being top-heavy at all. Viewing angles are tolerable, and 1080p is very crisp at this screen size. It has absolutely ZERO worthless bloat software on it, and so it's quick right out of the box. Meh-points: The trackpad has some weird settings out of the box, like it doesn't 2-finger click to right-click for whatever reason. It scrolls very smoothly and seems very precise, but that threw me off. I would have really enjoyed an ability to add RAM, but that's what you get with this kind of device. It's way cheaper to put the RAM permanently on the board than to put slots on it and a door on the bottom. Cons: You're going to forget to charge this laptop, because it lasts so long that you sort of just forget about batteries. An additional thing to note is that the USB Type-C port is a great addition, but I can't fathom why they didn't use one for charging the laptop itself. That would have been a very popular feature with the press. Summary: It's really nice, and I think it's absolutely worth the price when compared to the $200 units. I'm sure you can get more powerful laptops for $350-500, but they're going to be thicker and have fans and absolutely have worse battery life. It's essentially an ultrabook for 1/3 of the price and all of the day-to-day performance, and I recommend it

This laptop looks good, runs well and is light. Only issue on this laptop and another new ASUS system is that when using a web browser the screen size zooms in our out randomly. Don't see a setting to disable gestures, pinch zoom or any other feature that seems to be causing this in the control panel. And this system doesn't seem to have ASUS smart gesture app either.

Asus VivoBook Overwhelmingly Surprised and Pleased
Purchased several weeks ago for my wife who is returning to college. We are overwhelmingly pleased, and pleasantly surprised, how wonderful this laptop is for one priced so modestly. The only thing we'd suggest improving is the left and right click on the touch pad -- they're a bit slow to respond, but tolerable especially since we have an external mouse for use when at the desk. Good job Asus!

This is not living up to expectations. I've barely used it. It doesn't connect or work well for anything on the internet! I've tried different platforms and it still doesn't respond. Other laptops in our household work fine so it's not our internet.

I did a lot of research before purchasing a laptop. I wanted something sleek and portable that would surf, stream, and allow me to do work quickly and easily. This laptop delivers on all of those. It is very, very light, and the design is very sleek. The battery life is amazing. I forget my charger occasionally, and it isn't a problem unless I'm on my laptop literally all day. The screen is matte, which is very nice for reducing glare. It starts up and powers down really fast, due to the lack of bloatware. I wish the keyboard was backlit, but I know that would cost more and could make it heavier. I see that another reviewer mentioned the screen zooms in randomly. It's not exactly random, it's when two fingers hit the track pad and move slightly. You can pinch or separate fingers to zoom in or out of the screen, and occasionally, the track pad picks up touches that weren't meant for that, which is easily remedied by pressing the button to bring it back to normal. I don't think I could have gotten a more portable, sleek, and overall good quality for a better price.

Surprisingly Useful Machine Value/Price is great
This laptop is a lot better than I expected considering how inexpensive it was. It runs Office and Visual Studio 2015 great considering the hardware. The screen is clear enough to use for long periods of time. The battery is incredible. We only charge it once a week. I is very thin and light. Boots up very fast. Perfect for classrooms and travel. We did have to update the WiFi driver from Intel's site (Not Asus) because it was disconnecting from our network and downloading very slow (Day 2 problem May 2016). Not the first time a new product was behind on drivers. The value / price is great. If they added a touch screen option and full usb-c features it would be nearly perfect. E403 is the new apple of my eye.

So Far, So Good
I've had this laptop for about five days. So far, so good. It has a very nice design - even better in person - and is very light/portable. It runs fast considering it only has 4gb of RAM and it runs nicely for my needs (web browsing, blogging, checking email, etc.). I also like not having all of that bloatware on it. Oh, and the battery life is great so far. I fully charged it when I got it Thursday night and didn't have to charge again until Sunday night (three days later). Just a couple knocks on it. The rubber grips on the bottom of the device could be better. The grip is okay but the device still slides around surfaces at times. Lastly, I did get a "Blue Screen of Death" error once. The computer restarted and everything was okay. Could just be a Windows 10 issue as I know many people have experienced it.
Nice all around laptop.
Needed something light - fast and inexpensive but not cheap. So far this E403 has met all the above. It is very light. Windows runs fast enough for my needs. 4GB of ram and the 128GB emmc hard drive or fast enough to run everything I've done so far. Display is nice more than fine for all day use. The battery does last all day. I timed it from 11:00am to just around 10:00pm and it still had around 20%. A very excellent all around all day laptop.
worth the money
trackpad was my problem with Windows laptops. But it works great on this computer. Bought this for my niece to learn programming. She is happy.
So far not so good, but we shall see...
Just received the VivoBook E403 and the lower bezel around the display is loose/bowed. NOT a sign of quality or quality control. This was a graduation gift, talk about anticlimactic. Now have to exchange it or get a refund and buy something else.
