I am very happy with the Ultra so far! This is what the Roku 4 should have been. Just a few reasons: 1. Speed. The Ultra does not lag like the Roku 4 does. The menus are quick and responsive. Even loading and buffering times seem to be reduced! 2. The Ultra seems to handle high-bitrate video streams much better than The Roku 4. Dropped frames, lip sync problems, and other annoyances all seem gone with the Ultra. 3. Up-conversion from 2K to 4K seems to be much better. Example: Programming on HBO GO looks like it is being streamed in native 4k with the Ultra, even though it is not. This seems to apply to other 2K sources streamed through the Ultra as well. Of course, I should also mention that programming being streamed in native 4K (Netflix/Amazon/Vudu/etc.) looks amazing too! 4. The Ultra isn't constantly losing connection with the remote control. This was a big problem with the Roku 4. The 4 kept losing the remote connection at least once a day until the whole unit was rebooted. This happened on BOTH Roku 4 units I have in two different locations. So far, no problems with remote control connectivity with the Ultra! My *ONLY* complaint so far would be the moving of the OK button to the up/down/left/right buttons and putting the "Search" button where the OK button had been on previous remotes. I am finding myself (because I am used to the old remote) pressing the "search" button instead of "OK" button, causing it to kick me out of whatever app I was in and/or watching. This will take some getting used to, but It is not a deal breaker.

We have 2 Roku players - 3 and because of the love, we purchased a Ultra one. Unfortunately this new top of the line device fall short and did not met our expectations. Do not get me wrong. When this device decide not to freeze the remote is a beast. Super fast and nothing short of amazing. But having the remote failed to control the player 3-4 times a day is huge pain in the a.s. To fix, I need to unplug the power cord and remove and insert the batteries. So if this is a some kind of firmware issue it needs to be resolved fast. Otherwise, this great player would earn bad name of not being capable to handle proper 4k streaming. There ware issues with 4 and now the Ultra.

Problems with Netflix 4K
from Atlanta, GA, United States
I like the Roku Ultra. Just installed it this week with a new Sony Bravia 4K TV and a new Yamaha receiver. The problem is the Netflix will not show in 4K. It did at first but now does not function. If Roku can address this problem I would give the product a 5. Without it, I am generously giving it a 3.

I primarily use Netflix and Amazon for streaming. Previously I had a Blu-Ray player that did streaming, but it would frequently lock up or error on playback. The Roku Ultra has been very reliable, and it's quite a bit snappier, too. Playback happens right away and navigating menus on Netflix and Amazon is much more responsive. Setup was the easiest I've ever seen for a set-top box, the available streaming options are extensive and I love the iPhone app!

Ultra has a defect! Disappointed with Tech Support
from Texas, United States
I purchased the Roku Ultra on launch day to replace my Roku 4. However since day one I get a black screen with only audio when trying to stream any channel on the Ultra. Tech support went through all the normal steps only to tell me after 45 minutes that the issue is a known problem waiting for a software update. I swapped back the Roku 4 that has worked and still working perfectly.

I was skeptical and it took a little warming up to it. I'm not sure it's really going to save any money but it does provide more options. I'm most impressed with PlayStation Vue support. I really like My Feed although it doesn't appear to support Vue yet and I wished there was a way to filter paid verses free content. It is blowing through my data useage so we'll see how AT&T reacts to it and me dropping UVserse.

We originally bought a Roku express, then got a Roku 3 and put the express in the garage. Then we bought another express for the guest bedroom (have company coming next week), then we got our Roku ultra for the living room and put the 3 in our bedroom. So every TV in our house has a roku hooked up to it. I love Roku that much!

I have had several models of Roku. I bought this one to set up for my 3 year old to stream educational/child appropriate programs. It's modestly faster to load and display video than the Roku 3 but I expected a more noticable improvement (connected via ethernet so may be beneficial for those who use wifi streaming). One annoying issue in the current software version (7.2.2) is that the audio will play about a second after the video is displayed. Once both are on, it is synced properly but the initial lag is distracting especially in those programs where you miss the first few words. Again, expected more since we're several generation into this device. Lastly I don't like how one cannot customize the home screen to block the suggested programs. Some of these advertisements are not appropriate for kids. Something I would expect that should be customizable. Is the Roku device a monetizing product for the company after we already pay for the device and selected contents? Recommend saving money and buying the Roku3 if you don't care about 4K or don't need it for smaller screens.
