Let's start off with the one I have is the tmobile one (Frontier) This is the first smart watch I've ever owned and I have absolutely fallen in love with this watch! I have owned and still have some really nice watches big heavy thick built like tanks type of watches (Invicta ones ) .. The Frontier is not as heavy and not as thick over all, but the quality is top notch. The band is of pretty decent quality it's a soft rubber and is fairly comfortable. I kinda wish it had a leather or full Metal band but that's just my preference and in no way takes away from the watch in any way.. the 22mm quick release band does what it's supposed to do and is very easily replaceable and if you shop around online you will find plenty to keep you happy in every color and texture. The watch it's self is very easy to use and navigate around in , it's pretty easy to just start turning the bezel or touch the screen and just look around to find what you're looking for, not overly complicated. Watch faces, apps, fonts ,security ect... There are a few things that I'm still trying to figure out, such as removing the music I put on there.. still looking on how to do that... which brings me to the other thing that I wish for on this over all almost perfect watch.. the storage and memory both I just wish were a bit bigger.. just a bit more ram would have been nice... and the biggest on the wish list is way more than just 4gigs ... with the built-in apps they take a big chunk of space.. not sure if possible but 8 would have been really good and 16 gig would have put this at near perfect level for me.. I understand that the wish list would have put this at a higher price point but I think in my opinion it may have been worth it. The set up was easy and painless.. receiving messages and phone calls again were on point.. the sound quality was perfect from both ends. The placing of called and writing text was on point to also.. but fyi.. the writing on the small screen I found to be more of a hassle so I just spoke out the message I needed to send. Just so much more I can say about the s3 Frontier which would be almost all good and maybe 1 or 2 things bad , but the good definitely outweighs the bad , so much so that even with the very few things I found that I just wish were a bit better or just more ,this is an outstanding, well balance and good looking watch that is a flat out must buy for yourself or that special person in your life. Also if you have never owned or thought of a smart watch there is not a better place to start. So far I almost find myself using it as much or more than my phone. Especially if you are in a job or place that pulling out your phone is not convenient or possible. Being able to read or answer your calls or text messages discreetly is pretty nice also not having to worry about having my phone or forgetting it the car or my home and still being able to have those that need to get in touch .. well get in touch.. is really really convenient. For those that have this watch ....enjoy it.. for those on the fence just get it!!

overall, I like the watch, however, there are still some bugs and compatibility issues and less than intuitive features to overcome with this smartwatch. I'll try and summize it as a pro and con list for anyone interested in this device and wants a users perspective. readers beware, some cons may be due to my inability to find a solution (yet) as I've only had it for a week. Pro: voice recognition works well. good design - i love the wheel on the face to rotate through your "apps". there is an array of custom bands as well for those of you who are dissatisfied with the stock bands, as i was (the lack of band selection for other smart watches was a factor in my decision as style is as important as functionality for a watch wearer). app selection seems good but I can't compare it to the AW2 store or others. keeps time well the alarm is great! vibration and beeps right on your wrist wake me without a hitch. snooze could be longer...I try not to snooze though. Con: the voice reader changes the way you interact with the touch screen making it difficult to disable. using voice commands to disable it only disabled the auto voice detection, not the reader. my phone uses ok google! in contrast to "hi gear" I knew this getting the watch but it is still a con for me to not be able to access the full array of voice commands through my watch and to my phone. (still looking for a solution to a more fluid voice control system). SMS - I can't send sms via "hi gear" commands. I'm still looking for a solution to this as well. (this discovery actually irritates me a bit) - the only solution i have as of now is to add the contact to the watch or your contacts list, go to their name, tap the message icon and you can use the mic icon at that point...but you can't straight voice command to it. bug? using discord app (chat group app) on my phone with headphones plugged in glitches it out completely, for starters the mic will continuously change its input source every half second making audio indistinguishable. but not only does it do that, it seems to flash a contact (usually most recent or top of the list - whoever's name starts with an A) onto the screen. it makes me concerned it will call someone without my desire from a bug of this nature. I'm unsure if this should be fixed on discords app side or the gears OS but it is definitely something that needs to be looked at. my temporary solution to this is to turn the watch off and charge it when using discord. I havn't tried other chat related apps. I'd like to think my con listed about the voice reader is a bug, but it actually says it changes the way it functions when activated.. I fully expect to discover more bugs as i get more active with its functionality - but other thoughts: the battery life could last longer, perhaps i could adjust settings further, but nearly stock with basic setup complete it seems like the charge will only last 2-3 days. (right now at 37% i have 21 hrs remaining) typically the input/output will come out on w/e device i respond to. don't forget to get a samsung account if you don't have one for the app store...thats basically how/why i'm writing this review.

Samsung Gear S3 Frontier- built for the Frontier

By

from Milwaukee, WI

Pros

  • Bright display
  • Built-in speakers
  • Durable
  • Realistic color

Cons

    Best Uses

This watch has it all! First it looks like a rugged timepiece, with a big bright display, even outdoors, and a rotating bezel that controls everything (yes you can swipe thru the screens). The Tizen operating system is smooth. Fitness tracker, GPS, Notifications, Heart Rate Monitor, Altimeter/Barometer, Samsung Pay, Sleep tracker, Swappable Watchbands and wireless charging. Connection via Bluetooth, WIFI, and on some models LTE (the watch becomes a phone). I have the Bluetooth/WIFI model, and with the phone close by you can still answer calls. The call sound quaility is quite good. The watch's name is "Frontier" and that's where we've gone. Hikes using the GPS, bike rides using the fitness tracker and GPS. With the watch's IP68 waterproof rating, no sweat worries. But I still wouldn't take it swimming. The watch can record as a standalone device, so you can leave the phone in the car. Or pair with a Bluetooth Headset and listen to music wherever. One crucial safety feature is SOS messaging from the watch. Using the S Gear app, set an emergency contact and by pressing the S3's home button 3 times, it sends a message with your location, allowing that person to track you for an hour. A little peace of mind if you're out alone! Samsung Pay from your Watch= Amazing! Long press the back button on the Watch and your Cards appear. Tap the watch on the card terminal and you are good to go! I have the Gear S3 paired with a Samsung S7 Egde, running Android Nougat (must be Android 4.0 or higher). Battery life is impressive. With everything on, the battery lasts 2.5 to 3 days! And when the Gear S3 finally runs out of juice, just drop it on the magnetic wireless charger. In the words of the old Davy Crockett song....The Samsung Gear S3 Frontier is truely "King of the Wild Frontier".

I've never been a watch person so I was a little hesitant to try this out. Not really because I don't like the look of watches....I just never really saw a point. I was aware of smart watches and trackers becoming more and more popular but every time I would look one up I didn't see enough value to sway me into the watch wearing world. Then the S3 Frontier came along.....I was pretty excited when this watch arrived. So much so that I was actually worried that it wouldn't live up to the hype I had built up in my head. It definitely exceeded it. My 1st impression as I opened the box was "Wow that's a good looking watch." Not just smartwatch...watch. It has such a good look to it, and as I turned it on and began exploring watch faces and learning how to do everything it was just 1 awesome discovery after another. The OS is super easy to use (love the bezel navigation), so I didn't have to spend much time learning all of that. The only possible knock on this watch that I have found is the weight of it. That may just be due to the fact that I've never been a watch person though......I got used to it pretty quickly and don't even really notice it anymore (except when I'm playing with it haha). I can pretty much guarantee my family, friends and co-workers are sick of me talking it up by now, but hey it's that awesome. My favorite thing is seeing people's faces when I pay with my watch!!

            The Best Smartwatch to date...

            from Sugar Land, TX, USA

            Pros

            • Bright display
            • Built-in speakers

            Cons

              Best Uses

The Gear S3 is easy to set up and comes with several great apps to get started which include stopwatch, timer, alarm, altimeter, barometer, calculator, reminders, News Briefing and Samsung Pay. Pros:
                - Nice, large, easy to read screen. Way more masculine than the Gear S2.
                - Always on Display makes the watch look real and it will have little effect on battery life
                - Speakerphone for accepting calls. The calls sound great...just a little odd looking if speaking into the watch.
                - 1000's of watch faces to choose from in the app store.
                - Rotating bezel. The bezel is the best way to see notifications and go through widgets. The bezel also minimizes the need to swipe which in turn reduces fingerprints on screen.
                - Easy to respond to text messages using voice.
                - Samsung pay. Load up your credit card info and you can shop and several stores without the need for you credit card.
                - Step counter works great.
                - Easy to swap out watch bands. In addition, there are so many watch bands to choose from which makes the watch so versatile.
                - Transferring media files (music or photos) is super easy.
                - Battery life is 2 days with heavy use which will be perfect for a weekend getaway...no charger needed.
                - Easy to use magnetic charger. Cons:
                - Not many apps available accept watch faces. Yes, there is Yelp, Uber, Trulia, CNN etc but there could be so many more.
                - S Voice. This app is on all Samsung phones and suffers from lag to get info and is often not accurate when converting voice to text.
                - Heart rate monitor is not that accurate during workouts.
                - Sleep monitor is somewhat useless.
                - The onboard keyboard is a pain to use for responding to emails or text messages. I have had every Samsung smartwatch...yes everyone (Galaxy Gear, Galaxy Gear 2, Gear Live, Gear S, Gear S2 and Gear S3). To be honest, I have tried several smartwatches and all of them have their shortcomings however, the Gear S3 is the best smartwatch to date and I would highly recommend to anyone.

                  Best Uses

Okay, I've had the Gear S3 (Frontier Bluetooth version) for about a month now and feel like I need to share my opinion on the latest generation wearable from Samsung. Let me start by saying I have had three other smart watches. One android wearable, a Samsung Gear 2 and Samsung Gear S. I guess you could say that I'm a bit of a watch fanatic since I have many other non-smart watches I enjoy wearing too, but I digress. My first impression is that Samsung spent some time to make a quality timepiece. It looks elegant, as an expensive watch should, and feels solid. I'm sure this will take a beating and keep going however beating a watch is not in my nature, so this is just an assumption based on the impression it get from handling this watch. The Frontier has a nice outdoor rugged look which is why I chose it but that is personal taste. I really went back and forth since I wear a suit most days of the week and I think the Classic would have worked well too. I've owned 2 square/rectangular faced watches and 2 round face watches and I normally would say that you should buy for your own taste, but with the addition of the outside bezel that assists in navigating through options, widgets and menus I'm forced to say the round face on the S3 is the only way to go. It's amazing how one simple design change could make such a great difference in your experience with a smart watch but Samsung hit it out of the park with the addition of the bezel control. I still use the touch screen quite a bit but it's nice when you have potato chip fingers, to be able to navigate your way around without messing up the display. Again you can see I'm a fanatic about caring for my watches! The display on this watch is phenomenal! It's actually a pleasure to stare at this watch which makes it a lot of fun to try and find a watch face you like. By the way, there may not be a ton of apps available but there are plenty of watch faces to choose from. The colors are vibrant and the display is bright, making photos look really nice, although as I get older, I would rather look at much larger pictures, but for those with younger eyes, I promise you'll be impressed. The Gear S3 has worked well for my fitness needs! It's a little heavier than a fitness tracker but for me it provides all the same stats. I've never had a problem with it registering my heart rate and the number's provided for BPM, steps, miles and floors seem quite accurate but I'm not a professional runner and if it were off a few yards over 5 miles I wouldn't know it nor would I care. To me, all this information provides incentive to work out and motivation to push myself from the last workout. I should mention here that I do have the watch remind me to move if I've been sitting at work too long! Now if you want the most accuracy and you're running outside rather than on a treadmill you'll be pleased to know it comes with GPS. The only downside is that it takes a few minutes to acquire the satellite signal but that gives you a chance to stretch first. There's also room to store music on this watch if you don't want to carry your phone when you run. It will sync with Bluetooth headset so you can carry your favorite tunes, listen to them without wires while you run and leave your phone at home. The speaker on this thing is remarkable too. Every sound is crystal clear and can be loud if you want. I played some music though the speaker on the watch and it blew me away for such a tiny speaker, however I would recommend a headset for your runs. The sleep tracking feature worried me a little when I read reviews. What scared me was that people would say the watch would run out of battery by 3 or 4 in the morning. My experience has been completely different, of course I do make some adjustments that may be helping. First I've found a watch face that sucks very little battery and in the always on display mode it's just two red hands (Mickey Face Red). Then I turn on Do Not Disturb, turn the display all the way down and shut off sound and vibrate. I've used the sleep tracking app that comes with the watch and I've used the Sleep as Andriod app. In fact, I've used them both at the same time and never used more than 15% battery on my most wrestles night. I prefer using the Sleep as Android app because it allows the alarm to wake me up with vibration to the watch. Yes, even though I've turned off the sound including vibration on the watch when I go to bed, it still allows the alarm from the Sleep as Android to vibrate and wake me up. The vibration of the watch doesn't wake up my wife on those early mornings! The battery could last me easy two days with as much as I use it. I know Samsung says 4 days but if you've got such a beautiful display and tool on your wrist you'll want to show it off, so use it. The really cool thing about this watch is the fantastic charging unit that comes with it. There's no need to plug it in or clamp on a battery. You just set it in the charging stand and it charges up for you fast. I generally take it off for 30-60 minutes in the morning when I'm getting ready for work and 30-60 minutes as I'm getting ready for bed and the thing rarely goes below 75% charge. Another review I read said that their banking institution wasn't setup to allow the use of Samsung Pay, so I had to try that first thing. I'm sure this will vary based on everyone's individual institution however I was pleasantly surprised to find that not only was I able to use the credit card from my bank but also from my credit union. It took just minutes to set up and was really slick when I checked out at the register. Just two pushes on the back button, tap on which card you want to use, put your watch next to the terminal and you're done! I'm sure I will be using this feature a lot! Lastly let me say that I don't miss having the LTE capability I have with my Gear S. I rarely took advantage of the standalone phone capabilities and defiantly not enough to justify the extra cost including the monthly fee the service provider charged for the phone number. In summary, I'm head over hills with the quality, looks and function of the Gear S3. It was easy to set it up, but I've had other smart watches so I've had a little practice and for the month I've owned had it, it has performed well in every aspect. So if you've got some dollars burning a hole in your pocket this might be an enjoyable place to spend them! I highly recommend checking this out!

The Gear S3 Frontier is a great watch for any smart watch enthusiast. The overall design and functionality of the watch is amazing. It delivers a classy look while being tough for your next adventure. The watch is a perfect companion to a Samsung phone (note 5 user) and really takes over basic function without pulling out your phone. A big improvement over the gear S2 is adding a speaker to the watch since I use the speaker while driving since my car doesn't have blue tooth. Answering calls are great because of the bezel or you can either swipe to answer or reject the call. The texting feature is great and it gives you three options to send text, but I enjoy having the option to use drawing the text because its fast and easy. Using the bezel to navigate through the widgets or notifications is responsive and reliable. The watch alone as a watch is great and you can customize the different watch faces by using the stock faces or downloading the different ones on the gear store. The fitness app S health is great for tracking steps, heart rate and other heath stuff if you set it up. Overall I'm really happy to have this watch and glad it comes with useful features that make my everyday routine easy. Upgraded from a gear 2 (not gear S2) I'm glad that this watch meets my needs.

I have owned all 3 Samsung Gear S's. The Gear S3 is by far the best built out of them all. The design of the watch face is clean and bold. The new clicking feature of the dial is crisp and adds a much better feeling during operation. With normal use for about 3 weeks now I am able to use the Gear S3 with only charging every 2 to 3 days. The workout tracking seams to be more accurate and tracks more activities then the past Gears. I like that the watch band is now interchangeable with a standard watch band.

I've been wearing a watch since elementary school, and I'm in my mid 50's. I figured, if there are any benefits besides having a mechanical watch, I'll like it. Well, I actually love it! The number of watch faces you can use are outstanding. I find myself switching almost daily. I like the S Health app as well. Other features like the weather and top news stories are excellent. It's a real beautiful watch and looks stunning. Others have reported the large size of the watch and the weight. I don't think it looks too big at all, and it's NOT heavy. I have a Citizens Titanium watch the S3 Frontier replaced, and it's actually a little lighter (with the stainless steel band on it) than the Citizen. Overall, great value, nice looking watch-though I would say it's more of a mans watch-with only a few small gripes. Some of the apps (mostly weather) don't update all the time, and I wish the watch could be used as a bedside clock while charging (it goes black). This is why I gave it a 4 star on performance. However, I am using iOS with this watch and it still works well....I plan on going with the Note 8 when it comes out. I'm sure the performance will improve a little bit.

The thing I thought that was the coolest things is the one thing I dont like how it works. I thought the ability to hand wright on the watch was cool but the way it works and picks up on letters is horrible. It's VERY hard to use because 85% of the time it gets the letters wrong. Im VERY disappointed in this feature. Also, I'm disappointed that this watch, unlike one of the older ones doesnt have a true camera. VERY disappointed it doesn"t. But other than that, I like this watch and would still recommend to a friend.

After about 10 days of using the Gear S3 Frontier, I can say with complete confidence that the watch is nearly everything I hoped it would be. With a gorgeous display and nifty rotating bezel, it's easy to navigate from one application to another. My favorite feature so far has to be Samsung Pay, and the fact that the Gear S3 comes with NFC and MST, which makes it usable at basically any cash register. The convenience of never needing to reach into a pocket to grab a wallet or phone to pay is remarkably convenient, and is always a way to get people to ask you about your smartwatch. On the flip side, the watch's lack of application support is somewhat disappointing. While it does have applications for things like Spotify, ESPN and Flipboard, the app lacks a decent map program, and including offline downloads for Spotify Premium would be a huge plus. However, there are a billion watch faces to choose from, so customization is definitely not an issue. Battery life for this watch is great. I have only charged it twice since I got it 10 days ago. I have yet to try out the always-on display, which I have heard can really drain a battery quickly. Overall, I love the functionality that this watch provides me on a daily basis. It's become an indispensable part of my daily routine. While I wish that there was more app support right now, and that the fitness tracker was a bit more accurate, the things that the Gear S3 does well has sold me on its usefulness.
