As energy conservation has become so important, we have designed innovative ways to enhance wash performance while reducing the amount of energy and water needed. Ecosmart is America's most energy efficient top-loading washer and not only qualifies for Energy Star status, but raises the standard.
The Consortium of Energy Efficiency (CEE) rates every washing machine on the American market for energy efficiency. Rating is done on a tier level, grading each machine on three factors:
- The Energy Factor is a measure of how much energy is used in running the washer and in heating the water that the washer uses.
- Water Factor is how much water the machine uses.
- Remaining Moisture Content measures how much water is remaining in your clothes after the final spin, which will determine how much energy is used in the dryer cycle.
The smart way to wash clothes
Combine the performance and convenience of a top-loader with the capacity of a front-loader and you have the Ecosmart. The direct drive agitator provides the same kind of clothes care as the world's leading front load washers while saving even more energy. Because it's a top load washer, you'll appreciate the convenience of no bending to load and unload clothes into its 3.7 cubic foot basket.
Ecosmart uses the advanced SmartDrive system, connecting a programmable motor directly to the agitator by a single stainless steel shaft. There are no belts, gears, or pulleys to break down. The Ecosmart senses each load, sets the water level, and adjusts the wash action. Computer electronics are combined with a simple mechanical design to produce a superior wash.
Dual Step Wash
Our unique dual "Eco Active" wash boosts soil removal to give one of the most hygienically clean washes in the market.
First Step:
- Water is added to saturate the clothes
- Concentrated detergent and water are pushed through the clothes for 3 minutes
- Enzymes are activated, and the soils are softened and lifted from the fabric.
Second Step:
- Machine fills with cooler water and gently agitates to wipe soil from the fabric

What is the SmartDrive system?
By combining electronic intelligence with a simple mechanical design, we provide better wash performance and greater reliability through the SmartDrive system.
We’ve connected the brush-less DC magnetic motor directly to the agitator by a single stainless steel shaft. The SmartDrive system incorporates no belts, pulleys, or transmission, which are the first things to wear down and break in a conventional washer.
Actually, the benefits of SmartDrive go even further. Because the agitator is in direct connection with the electronics of the machine, the Ecosmart can deliver an almost infinite number of agitator actions and water levels, which provides the proper wash profile for each load.
What does SmartDrive mean for you?
More convenient – The 1000rpm spin speed means that less water left in your clothes after the load is finished. This results in the wash and dry times to be the same in many cases. No more loads of washing waiting in line to be dried. The auto water level sensing provides further convenience and savings as the optimal amount of water is used, saving water and time.
More gentle – The delicate spin speed of only 300rpm, along with our distinctive wash profiles, protects even the most delicate items.
Less energy and water used – Because of the 1000rpm spin speed, a load’s drying time is reduced to the amount of time it takes to wash the load. This results in up to a 30% savings in energy when compared to other machines. With a wide range of water level settings, Ecosmart gives you the freedom to wash one or two garments without having to waste water. Many other machines fill as much as one-half or one-third on their lowest fill setting. Ecosmart fills only to the base of the agitator on the low setting, saving you water and energy.
Continuous communication – In the same way that your hands communicate with your brain when you wash by hand, Ecosmart’s electronics constantly communicate with the motor to customize the wash action throughout the wash.
- If a new garment is added to the load, Ecosmart will automatically compensate and customize the agitation action and water level.
- When Ecosmart is spinning, it will sense whether the load is out of balance. If it is, it will stop and attempt to spin once again. If the load is still unbalanced, the washer will stop and emit a burst of beeps to notify the user.
- If you turn the "Out of Balance Recovery" option on, Ecosmart will fill with water and agitate to re-distribute the load, before trying to spin again, if it detects an unbalanced load.
Ease of Use and Care
The soft touch console is easy to maintain and easy to use. Select the desired wash cycle and press start to begin the laundry – the water level, temperature, and spin speed are automatically selected.
Maintaining the appearance of your Ecosmart is easy. Without any knobs or dials to hide dirt, a quick wipe of a damp cloth will clean it quickly.
Our new, more durable lid is injected with a glass bead-filled SAN core and virgin ABS skin to provide a non-scratching surface to work on. It is easy to clean and also removable, so you can get to those hard to reach spots.
