MK Sound 3 Way Bookshelf Speakers - LCR750BK
Setting the performance standard for THX Select front channel speakers immediately upon its release, the LCR-750THX utilizes the same tweeter and Phase-Focused crossover found in our reference S-150THX speakers, with dual 5 1/4" woofers for tremendous dynamic range and a warm mid-bass.
Competitive L/C/R speakers (including some THX speakers) use drivers and other components of significantly lower quality. Just compare the LCR-750THX to other LCR or front channel speakers and you will hear the difference.
SHARP IMAGING & VERY WIDE LISTENING WINDOW WITH THE M&K HIGH-FREQUENCY PRISM SYSTEM
The first question everyone asks is “Why does the LCR-750THX tweeter point away from the listener?
The answer is that it is part of M&K’s innovative High-Frequency Prism system. This system combines a stylish, high-tech heavy curved mesh metal grille with a 4.7 degree tweeter mounting angle and a Phase-Focused crossover to form the High-Frequency Prism.
This system vastly improves the speaker’s off-axis response (as well as the on-axis response) by shaping a very smooth and extended flat high-frequency response over a very wide listening window. The window is directed for optimum imaging, requiring separate left and right speakers. Counterintuitively, this
requires that the tweeter point 4.7 degrees away from the listening position (towards the room’s nearest side wall).
Why is all of this so important?
When listeners are located off of a speaker’s direct axis, the sound they hear is prone to irregular response and lobing. Lobes are large off-axis dips and peaks in frequency response that cause significant performance problems, resulting in poor sound quality for listeners sitting off-axis (and reduced quality for those on-axis). Unless you are sitting so that a speaker is aimed directly at you, you are sitting off-axis.
M&K PHASE-FOCUSED CROSSOVER
Any speaker using multiple drivers for the same frequencies are even more prone to irregular response and lobing. The LCR-750THX's dual 5 1/4" woofers mean that it is no exception. But M&K's exclusive Phase-Focused crossover design and technically correct tweeter - woofer - woofer driver configuration address this problem by additionally optimizing both the speaker’s on-axis and off-axis response.
While other crossover designers consider just frequency response on one axis, we consider the speaker's response in both the time and frequency domain at various angles in both the vertical and horizontal planes. This uniquely sophisticated crossover is critically tuned through both psychoacoustic listening analysis and complex computer analysis.
The Phase-Focused crossover and driver configuration work in conjunction with the High-Frequency Prism system to deliver a very smooth response over a wide horizontal and vertical listening window unlike nearly all multiple-driver LCR speakers.
Regardless of where the speaker or listeners are located in the room, the listeners will hear superior imaging and sound quality, with remarkable clarity.
For easy installation, the LCR-750THX has integral mounting hardware for M&K's new corner and flat wall mounting bracket system, as well as M&K's ST series of speaker stands (and Omnimounts).
