Kitchenaid can be counted on for a high quality product, and they don't disappoint on this the ice cream maker. I wanted one that was a) quiet, and b) involved you in the ice cream production process. Prep is all about the custard base, which is easier than it seems. Also, I am now in control of what is in my ice cream. If you like to cook, and like ice cream, this attachment is highly recommended.

Typical of KitchenAid, this is a well-made, dependable product. Unfortunately, this attachement is simply awkward and messy to use as compared to a stand-alone ice cream maker and underdelivers on the texture of the finished product. The paddle needs to be in motion before you pour the ice cream mix in, and it is difficult to position the container holding the mix close enough to get into the open area of the freezer bowl. Additionally, since you must pour from the side, the ice cream mix gets knocked back up onto the rim of the freezer bowl by the moving paddle, creating a mess. The triple blade on the paddle mixes an excessive amount of air into the mix, resulting in a poor, airy and fluffy texture to the finished ice cream. For ice cream, I would recommend sticking with a standard ice cream maker (such as the Cuisinart models) which are better designed to address the issues described above. The KitchenAid mixer is great, but retrofitting it for this particular purpose is not ideal.

Comments about KitchenAid Ice Cream Maker Stand Mixer Attachment:

I am using this product to make a healthier version of ice cream. I use Almond milk, either vanilla or chocolate to reduce fat and calories. It tastes great and the consistency is the same as if you used cream and whole milk.

Comments about KitchenAid Ice Cream Maker Stand Mixer Attachment:

Due to cancer, we cannot eat commercial ice cream. Must have Vegan and this machine did make it slushy w/in the 30 min. We then trans to other portioned controlled containers and froze. We used no eggs, cream or sugar. Very glad we bought. Have tried to make ice cream w/o and really does not work. Ours is not the stand holding one. Bowl fits on bottom of mixer stand is all.

Comments about KitchenAid Ice Cream Maker Stand Mixer Attachment:

I am so happy that I can make home made ice cream, just like when I was a kid without all the hand cranking. My wife and I are thrilled with our new Kitchen aid mixer and the attachments. The one thing that bothers me about the ice cream maker is, I was making a blueberry cheesecake ice cream pie. The mixture is thick and only after 3-5 minutes of mixing, the plastic pieces where they come together started clicking (meaning the mixture was too thick for the maker to turn it). While I realize the parts were made just for this reason, I am concerned that after time, the hard plastic parts will wear down and round off making the mixing paddle useless. I feel that the design is okay, but only if it were made of metal.

Comments about KitchenAid Ice Cream Maker Stand Mixer Attachment:

I am on KitchenAid ice cream maker number 4 in about 6 years time. The blue fluid will leak out the seams on these makers after about a years time. I wouldn't say it gets heavy usage, only for our family on occasion but we love the ice cream made that I will either replace if still on warranty or purchase another for full retail price.
This maker is otherwise a dream. Just place in freezer for 15 hours or so, place on your maker and add batter for approx. 20 minutes then place batter in freezer. Let maker thaw completely then wipe out to clean and store in cupboard... easy for such a great treat!

Make sure you have a very cold freezer and time. This is not for the "I want ice cream...NOW!" person. This makes wonderful fluffy icecream that does not stiffen up in the freezer like ice cream done in a salt freezer. This is more like store bought.

I purchased this product to use with my recently purchased kitchenaid artisan mixer. It makes good icecream providing you like yours soft served. The only thing I disliked about it was the time it takes to prepare for the ice cream to be made. You have to freeze the bowl overnight or at least for 24 hours before you attempt to make the ice cream.
