Panasonic 53" Diagonal Widescreen HDTV, Model PT53TW54
Features:
HDTV Compatibility1
Determines the types of high definition signals that a TV is capable of displaying. An HDTV monitor can accept signals in either 480p or 1080i format, with some models upconverting 480p to 540p for display. Some models can also accept 720p natively.
HDTV/EDTV Display Capability (1080i, 480p)
Experience images with lifelike detail and clarity when viewing HDTV broadcasts (1080i) and progressive scan DVD players (480p). Select models convert incoming 480i/480p signals to 540p for display. Please see individual models for details.1
16:9 Aspect Ratio
The term "aspect ratio" describes the relationship between the width and height of a TV or display screen. Traditional displays have an aspect ratio of 4:3, meaning that for every 4 inches of width, there are 3 inches of height. This results in a screen that looks almost like a square. Many newer displays have an aspect ratio of 16:9, so their screens are almost twice as wide as they are tall. Also referred to as "widescreen," 16:9 displays are better suited to widescreen DVDs and HDTV broadcasts. The term "aspect ratio" can also be used to describe the dimensions in which a film or TV program are shot. Traditional broadcasts are usually in 4:3 format, while HDTV broadcasts have an aspect ratio of 16:9.
2-Tuner Picture-in-Picture with Split-Screen Display
Lets you view two programs at once by dividing the screen in half down the middle. Each program is shown at full height, with one program on the left side and the other on the right. Audio is played form the program on the left. To listen to the audio from the program on the right, simply switch the pictures using the SWAP button.
Motion-Adaptive 3D-Y/C Digital Comb Filter
Displays bright colors and fast-moving scenes with incredible clarity by minimizing the "color rainbow effect" in closely spaced patterns, compensating for the motion that occurs between fields. As a result, bright colors and fast action scenes are displayed with incredible clarity.
Selectable Digital Velocity Modulated Scan
Advanced circuitry along the neck of the CRT senses transitions from black to white in the video signal. The black and white portions of the signal are sped up and slowed down, respectively, resulting in sharp black-to-white transitions. For a more film-like picture when watching movies, you may want to selectively turn off this circuitry.
BBE® High-Definition Sound2
Improves speech intelligibility and restores the dynamic range of musical passages to help provide a more natural sound.
Progressive Cinema Scan (3/2 Pulldown)
Achieves exceptionally faithful movie reproduction through a sophisticated analog-to-digital conversion. Movies on film are converted to NTSC interlaced video (480i) for television by a process known as telecine conversion, in which the 24 frame-per-second film is converted to video at 60 fields per second. The fields are then paired to create 30-frame-per-second 480i video. Some of the frames will contain dissimilar pairs of fields derived from two different frames of the original film, which causes artifacts. Our Progressive Cinema Scan circuitry converts 480i video to 480p while restoring the original frames of the film for a more authentic movie reproduction.
Protective Screen Shield
The protective shield prevents damage to the projection TV viewing screen, which can be especially vulnerable due to the lenticular surface and black matrix coating. This shield incorporates anti-scratch and anti-static compounds for additional protection against surface scratching and static build-up. The protective shield can be easily cleaned and, if damaged, replaced.
Enhanced Progressive Scan Doubler
Provides even more image enhancement than our previous progressive scan technology by improving the quality of diagonal lines in a moving picture. It displays a full frame of video in 1/60th of a second by de-interlacing the incoming video signal and progressively scanning the image. With it, you generally don't see the horizontal scan lines that can be visible in ordinary television images.
165-Point Digital Convergence
Convergence is the alignment of red, blue and green at a common point on a projection screen to produce white. In models with 165-point digital convergence, the red, blue and green images are aligned at more than 165 independent points on the projection screen. This method helps assure an accurate initial convergence setting at the factory and less likelihood that the convergence will require adjustment in the home environment. If adjustments are necessary, the TV can be serviced and the adjustments can be made with greater accuracy and in less time than with conventional methods.
9-Point Customer Convergence
Normally adjustment is not necessary after initial alignment at the center of the screen. However, color fringing in any area of the screen can be optimized with a few remote keystrokes by following on-screen instructions in the set-up menu.
HD Enhancer Wideband Video Amplifier
Expands the video signal frequency response to more than 10 MHz to allow for a horizontal resolution capability of more than 800 lines, depending on the source.
Horizontal/Vertical Edge Correction
Sharpens the edges of objects in the picture. Horizontal edge correction works in conjunction with the dynamic sharpness control and velocity modulated scan to help produce clean, crisp television images and reduce the unwanted effects of video noise. The vertical edge correction circuit works in conjunction with the digital comb filter to sharpen the horizontal edges of objects in the picture.
Color Temperature Control
Allows you to adjust the white balance towards either blue (colder) or red (warmer).
Artificial Intelligence Sound
Controls the sound level to prevent wide variations in volume among different TV channels and types of programming.
Bass/Treble/Balance Controls
Lets you easily adjust the sound of your TV to suit your tastes.
Lighted Disc Universal Home Theater Remote
This illuminated remote control can be programmed to control many current video and audio devices, such as VCRs, cable TV boxes, DBS receivers, DVD players, stereo receivers, CD players and audiocassette tape decks.
Video Picture Memory
Allows you to preset the TV's picture parameters to either Standard, Cinema or Vivid, according to various viewing platforms. For instance, you may choose the Cinema preset parameters for DVD movie viewing. Once a preset is chosen it will remain in effect regardless of which video input is selected.
Video Input Skip
When using the TV/VIDEO key on the remote to scan through available video and antenna/cable inputs, you can bypass selected inputs to save time. This feature is handy when you want to toggle between two inputs, such as the TV mode and VCR input on televisions with multiple inputs.
Video Input Labeling with Presets
Lets you assign an on-screen label to each of the video inputs on the TV for easier identification of connected video sources. Video inputs can be labeled VCR or DVD, instead of VIDEO 1, VIDEO 2, etc. Up to eight characters can be used for each label. Select models feature preset labels for even easier application.
Component Video Inputs
Delivers outstanding resolution and color accuracy of video images from a variety of sources, including DVD players, by keeping the Y, PR, PB of video images intact during the transmission process.
Auto Programmable Scan
Automatically tunes all available channels in your area or cable system into memory, and then lets you add or delete the channels of your choice.
V-Chip Program Lockout
The V-Chip allows users to block programming that may be inappropriate for certain viewers. Using program ratings embedded in TV broadcasts, the V-Chip lets parents decide the programming to which their children have access. Blocked program material is accessible only by entering a 4-digit code that parents create.
HDMI-HDCP Interface
HDMI is a new standard digital connection between A/V devices, such as a set-top box, DVD player or A/V receiver, and a digital television. HDMI offers exceptional video and audio quality with a single quick-disconnect connector. It supports multi-channel digital audio transmissions and component video color spacing for true rendering of HD video. HDMI supports the HDCP copy protection standard, allowing transmission of copy-protected digital content to your display. The video portion of HDMI is also backwards-compatible with DVI-HDCP devices using a special cable adapter.
