Capresso Infinity Conical Burr Grinder, Model 56503

Why Grind Beans at Home?
Grinding just before brewing will protect the aroma of your coffee. Ground coffee interacts with the air around it and, within hours, loses a great deal of flavor and aroma. The longer the ground coffee sits around, the less aroma you will find in your cup later.

  • Only grind what you need now. Don’t grind for the whole week!
  • Once the beans are out of an airtight packaging, keep them in a dry, dark container with a tight closing lid.

Conical Burr Grinders preserve the most aroma and can grind very fine and very consistent. The intricate design of the steel burrs allow a high gear reduction to slow down the grinding speed. The slower the speed the less heat is imparted to the ground coffee thus preserving maximum amount of aroma.

Because of the wide range of grind settings these grinders are ideal for all kinds of coffee equipment, Espresso, Drip, Percolators, French Press. The better Conical Burr Grinders can also grind extra fine for the preparation of Turkish coffee. Grinding speed is generally below 500 rpm.

Features And Benefits:

  • Extremely wide range from Turkish fine to coarse for all kinds of coffee preparation.
  • Clearly marked fineness settings, 4 each for extra fine, fine, regular and coarse. A total of 16 settings.
  • Commercial grade solid conical steel burrs with advanced cutting design for high precision grinding.
  • Gear reduction motor grinds slow with reduced noise and little static build-up.
  • Slowest grinding speed in its class creates less friction and heat build up preserving maximum aroma and flavor in any grind setting.
  • Safety lock system.
  • Upper conical burr removable for easy cleaning.
  • Tight fitting ground coffee container (holds up to 4 oz. of ground coffee)
  • See through bean container holds up to 8.8 oz. of beans
  • Timer can be set to grind from 5 to 60 seconds.
  • Pulse grinding possible (see below “How Things Work”).
  • Elegant, timeless and user friendly design.
  • Cleaning brush and measuring scoop included.
  • Heavy duty zinc die-cast housing
  • High mirror polished chrome finish

How Things Work:

  • The Infinity Burr Grinder will only grind when the black dot on the bean container points to one of the fineness settings. Turn the timer and grinding starts instantly.
  • Turning the bean container marking (black dot) outside of the fineness settings will stop the grinding immediately. Turning it back to the desired fineness will resume grinding as long as the timer is still running. (Pulse Grinding).

Note: Make sure the bean container is empty before removing it from the base. Otherwise beans will scatter around!

Easy to setup and use, seems to be well built. Easy to open up for cleaning. Hopper catches ground coffee without mess. Grind is selected by turning the hopper and matching up a black dot, which can be hard to see. Operation is started by turning the timer knob. It starts as you turn, which I don't care for. To interrupt grinding you need to turn bean dispenser to a "no grind" position which is not very obvious. Noise is moderate but not objectionable. This is a reliable appliance that looks fine alongside our electric tea kettle and french press. The coffee flavor has been outstanding, a noticeable improvement over using an inexpensive blade grinder.

As did other reviewers, I had a hard time installing the reservoir on the grinder, it took many attempts and a fine touch to get it to seat properly. Once it was, I knew I had it and it rotated through the grind settings effortlessly. It grinds consistantly, and unlike other grinders I have had, it doesn't leave a trail of grounds behind when you remove the finished product in the grounds holder. It works and looks great and I am completely satisfied.

I use it almost exclusively to grind finely for espresso, and the results are superb. Nothing like the uneven 'grind' of a cheap blade machine. The only drawback is that the more fine the grind, the more frequent and extensive the cleaning must be. It is very easy to lift the top grinder, and brush out, but you must be diligent about it.

This is a good grinder for the price. The size of the hopper is better for a family of 12, especially since those who bother to spend this much money on a grinder know better than to leave that quanity of roasted beans in it. It's relatively quiet, and the little container for the ground coffee is easy and convenient. The thing that irritated me about it the most was that the hopper is very tricky to screw on the base. Even if you very carefully line up the two markers, as directed, you find out quickly that the blade assembly sometimes gets a little jostled and has to be reseated before you can screw the hopper on. I actually broke the first one I bought and had to re-order

This is a great product. Easy to use, consistent grind. I had a krups that I got for a couple dollars less and the difference is remarkable. The Capresso blows the Krups away. The Krups would constantly get clogged and the rpms of the motor would spin out of control heating it up. Not only annoying but bad for the beans. Crapresso is smooth & consistent. No problems.

Glad I made this purchase

BOTTOM LINE Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.
This is my first purchase of a conical burr grinder. I did much on-line research, this one seemed to be one of the best for the money (the price I got from Abt made it even sweeter). I can't say how it compares to others, but I can tell you it does make a positive difference in the way my coffee tastes (compared to a blade grinder). Some reviewers mentioned the noise level of the grinder, I don't consider the noise level an issue. Its less noisy that the Krups I was using, actually the sound is more pleasant. Cleaning the machine is a breeze. It quickly disassembles and reassembles. The hopper has to be empty when you clean but that's no problem as I only fill the hopper with what I need to make coffee at that moment. It's kind of a pain but that's the price you pay for a better cup of coffee. The only time I've run into a static-electricity problem is when I grind beans that are extremely oily. I only use a courser grind for my Thechnivorm or Bodium, I don't know if there would be an issue when using it for the finer grinds. After grinding let the grounds set a little bit, tap the container, it won't eliminate the static but it helps. In my opinion the only downfall with this machine is the timer dial to grind your beans, it really doesn't correlate to anything. As soon as you turn the dial, the grinder starts. So if you turn the dial slowly as opposed to quickly to number 5 for instance, the machine will grind more beans (that is if you use the hopper to store your beans). Probably doesn't make that much of a difference in the taste of the coffee anyway. Although, well, I'll leave that to your taste buds. Overall, if there is a better grinder out there for the price you'll have to give it to me to try. I am very happy with my purchase.

Works well. Easy to grind small quantities or large quantities. Not too noisy. Be careful inserting the plastic hopper. Instructions are not clear and it is easy to damage the plastic hopper. I cracked mine, but it was a small crack, so it works fine. Replacement hoppers are reasonably priced from Capresso. I will be ordering a couple as spares.

I love the grinding performance of this unit: quiet, fast, almost no static in the grounds, consistent grind, and very easy assembly/disassembly. My only complaint is with the combined timer/switch mechanism. The only way to turn it on is to spin the timer knob to a certain position and let go. On my prior burr grinder, we could set a grinding time and then push the start button, allowing for more consistent grinding amounts than with this knob system. There's enough slop in the timer knob that each time you twist it to a certain position you're off a little bit, producing more or less ground coffee with each attempt. Not a deal-breaker, even for someone who used to weigh out his beans by the gram for each pot, but still a little annoying.

Well all I have to say is that this unit works just like promised. It is quite, easy to clean, great grind. After a lot of reserching I decided to try this unit and am very happy that I did. I was using a Krups blade grinder before and just was not happy with the noise and grind. Some was ground and some was dust! What a mess to clean. Yuk. I paid the extra and got the metal unit but I think now that the plastic would work just as well. I just like the wieght issue. [...] Good grinding!
