Frigidaire Front Load Washer Model, GLTF2940WH

Features:

  • King-Size 3.5 Cu. Ft. I.E.C. Capacity
The International Electrotechnical Commission (I.E.C.) standard of capacity measurement is used for low-water, non-agitator based wash systems. As the number of high efficiency products in North America has increased, I.E.C. has become the standard for measuring High Efficiency machines.
  • Stainless Steel Wash Basket
  • Electronic Controls
  • Tumble Action Cleaning System
The Frigidaire Tumble Care Washer is a better and more efficient way to wash than traditional machines, even without an agitator. Clothes are gently lifted and plunged through the water – effectively forcing detergent and water through clothing fibers to lift out sand, soil and stains. The result? Uniform cleaning throughout the entire washload without the wear and tear caused by an ever-churning agitator. All with a quieter operation and minimal water and energy use.

  • 3 Wash / 4 Spin Speed Combinations
  • Advanced Rinse Technology

The instructions are OK, but the machine doesn't require much to get it up and running.
Great machine for the price

Pros: Energy Efficient, Spins Clothes Dry, Adjustable Settings, Large Capacity, Clean Clothes Well
Best Uses: Everyday Clothes

My dryer decided to conk out and then catch on fire when the repair person came out and treid to turn it on. It was a stackable unit so I had to replace both the washer and dryer. And with a 2 year old, it had to happen quickly. I went online and wanted to find the cheapest front loading unit that could stack in the space I had. This washer fit all my requirements and did end up being the least expensive one. [...] I do about 6 loads of laundry each week and have had no problems with this machine. It is so quiet compared to my old top loading machine. Others have complained that the cycle time is too long, but my last machine took just as long and didn't get things nearly as clean. It has more than enough options to take care of all my laundry needs.
I would definitely buy this product

Quiet, efficient, does the job well. Even though not as big as I'm use to, my laundry is getting done in no time since the clothes are much drier out of the washer.

We have a newborn baby and we chose to go with cloth diapers, and this machine is fantastic for cleaning them. It has a great soak cycle, which cleans the diapers thoroughly. It's really quiet, and pretty quick to wash clothes. Consumer reports rated BEST BUY, and we agree!

We have this washer in a closet off of our kitchen and it is so silent - I was afraid it was not working. Very little vibration as well. Nice control options and front load is very handy to swith directly to dryer. HUGE FAN!

So quiet, so clean, a little stinky
By launderer from McLaughlin, SD on 05/6/2009.
Pros: Energy Efficient, Clean Clothes Well, Adjustable Settings, Spins Clothes Dry
Describe Yourself: Frequent User
Cons: Funny smell
Best Uses: Heavy/Bulky Items, Towels, Everyday Clothes, Bedding, Delicates
I am thrilled with how quiet this machine washes. It spins out the clothes so well on the high spin /double spin option that it cut drying time down significantly (half the time for towels and jeans). My clothes are cleaner and I get excited when there is another load to wash! However, the rubber seal does smell odd. I haven't noticed it transferring to my clothes. It arrived at my home smelling odd. I do dry out the seal after I am done washing. The seal also catches any odd stuff floating around, so it needs to be cleaned out. Additionally, the dial and soap dispenser look a little flimsy and toy like. I hope they will last.

This has been a wonderful washer so far! Clothes come out very clean. The washer is very quite as well and it uses so little water too. I have been following everyone's recommendations to wipe out the lip and leave the door cracked to let it air dry and I haven't had any problems yet. Also I would recommend geting a delicate bag if you wear the small ankle socks like I do. They tend to get stuck in the door (the lip area) and thus not washed very well. I went to the store and bought a mesh delicate bag and they all get washed very well now.
It's quiet, efficient and I am happy!

Pros: Clean Clothes Well, Adjustable Settings, Energy Efficient

Cons: Small Capacity, Long Cycle
I was really disappointed with the capacity. I'm used to machines that hold a lot of clothes. Although I like this machine I have to wash so many more loads. Also, the wash time is much too long. My previous machine's wash cycle was 12 minutes. This baby's cycle is 44 minutes!

By Dr Mom of 3 from Glen Ellyn, IL on 02/25/2009.
Describe Yourself: Heavy Duty User
Cons: Poor control location
Pros: Spins Clothes Dry, Clean Clothes Well, Energy Efficient, Adjustable Settings, Large Capacity
With 3 young kids, I do 8-10 loads a week. We needed a washer that was no more than 28 inches deep and did not shake too much to be installed on the second floor. This fit the bill and was recommended by a national consumer group. It cleans well, is quiet, and doesn't rattle the floor, unlike our previous front-loader (Maytag Neptune). Wish that the front door was reversible, and that the electronic controls were located on the top or back edge. They are on the front of the washer, just above the door, and are easily reached by our toddler. She is able to turn the washer on, so I consider this a safety hazard. Like all front-loaders, you need to be careful to dry the rubber gasket after each use. [...]
Compact yet Powerful
By BSM from Oak Park, IL on 02/6/2009.
Best Uses: Everyday Clothes, Towels, Bedding
Describe Yourself: Frequent User
Pros: Quiet, Adjustable Settings, Energy Efficient, Clean Clothes Well
The washer exceeded my expectations - it is compact enough to fit in our 3F single-door closet-sized laundry room (stacked w/ the matching gas dryer) and does a fine job churning out clean laundry. I am a firm believer in front-loading washers now - it uses so little water and is every effective. The spin cycle really dries your laundry to the point that some just need a bit of air drying time (rather than using the dryer). Highly recommended.
So far an excellent purchase
By Jim from Naperville, IL on 01/26/2009.
Pros: Energy Efficient, Adjustable Settings, Quiet, Clean Clothes Well
Describe Yourself: Frequent User
Best Uses: Towels, Everyday Clothes
Just replaced a very old Kenmore top loading machine and did a fair bit of research before choosing this washer. Capacity looked a little small but handled a usual load of bedding with no problem, bulky cycle a big plus and so far has cut 30 minutes off drying time on every load I've done. Like others wiping down the gasket when finished and leaving the door ajar.
Best unit for the price
By JamesR from Chicago, IL on 10/29/2008.
Best Uses: Bedding, Everyday Clothes, Athletic Clothes, Delicates, Towels
Cons: Defective door lock
Describe Yourself: Occasional User
Pros: Quiet, Adjustable Settings, Energy Efficient, Clean Clothes Well, Large Capacity
I've had this washer for approximately a month, using it for all kinds of stuff: whites, delicates, hand washables, wool, sport synthetics, and big blankets. My wife and I are using it 3-5 times a week, no kids, but have a dog that generates a lot of fur. It is simply an awesome washer. I love the digital controls, everything is automatic, and there is a great selection of different types of cycles. It is also super quiet (if leveled properly), and can fit a surprisingly large amount of clothes - almost the same as our previous top loader. It's much gentler on our clothes, and they come out a lot dryer than they did out of the top loader. I've been line drying a lot more stuff because of this, and expect my clothes to last longer.I deducted a star because my first unit was defective. There is a common issue with a buzzing door lock on Frigidaires that has to do with a defective locking mechanism and the alignment of the door. [...]Another really important thing is that the unit is leveled correctly. There should be very little movement, rumbling, or vibration. At most it makes a nice hum when it hits the 10K rpm spin cycle, with a slight vibration. My first unit wasn't leveled so well, and it vibrated badly in the spin cycle. So check this if you think it is vibrating too much.Overall this is a great unit for the price. You can't do much better. The only thing it lacks is a steam cycle, but it's up in the air whether or not that actually does anything. Also, keep in mind that front loaders tend to have more issues than top loaders, even the expensive ones, and I recommend getting an extended warranty if you plan on hanging onto it past the first year.
Was worried!
By Bud from Arlington Hgts, IL on 10/23/2008.
Pros: Clean Clothes Well, Energy Efficient, Quiet, Large Capacity, Adjustable Settings
Best Uses: Delicates, Towels, Bedding, Everyday Clothes, Athletic Clothes
Describe Yourself: Frequent User
Great machine! We read a bunch of reviews and CR put us over the top. We had concerns, because some folks complained and may expect perfection or did not use it right. We replaced a top loader that was decent but 14 years old. This machine uses less water and soap, is easier on the clothes. Kids' socks are actually clean now. Wipe the rubber gasket after you are done using the washer and leave the door open to air dry.
Great Recommendation!
By Roger from Lisle, IL on 10/3/2008.
Best Uses: Bedding, Athletic Clothes, Everyday Clothes, Towels
Pros: Energy Efficient, Quiet, Large Capacity, Adjustable Settings, Clean Clothes Well
Describe Yourself: Frequent User
I read many reviews and this unit was consistently rated high. I am not disappointed! I expected something like a laundromat front loader and was pleasantly surprised to see how much it conserved water and how well it cleaned clothes. A blueberry stain disappeared without pretreating! The best decision I have ever made! The base I purchased did not have a drawer - did not want it. I expected it to fit, though it was not recommended. A drill and 10 minutes later and I was able to modify it to work.
A very good washer
By ila from Chicago on 07/17/2008.
Best Uses: Bedding, Delicates, Everyday Clothes, Towels, Athletic Clothes
Pros: Energy Efficient, Adjustable Settings, Clean Clothes Well
Describe Yourself: Frequent User
Cons: Shakes/Moves
I like this washer very much. It is energy efficient so what I am noticing is that it uses alot less water. I know that is a good thing for the environment and our water bills. It will take some getting used to that there is very little water "sloshing" around in the drum like what you see in a traditional top load washer. I was told by a washer technician that it is important not to use too much detergent, as this can cause mechanical problems with the washer unit later on. Therefore, I will use 1/2 of the suggested HE laundry detergent.

make sure that you remove the four installation screws ... the instructions indicate that you should do so, but it does not "look like" you need to, BUT YOU DO. the screws are hard to remove, but if you do not remove the screws the washer "walks." when removed, the washer is perfectly quiet and does not "rock."

Best Uses: Everyday Clothes
Pros: Large Capacity, Clean Clothes Well, Adjustable Settings, Energy Efficient

Cons: Shakes/Moves
This is my first ever washer and bought it based on reviews from consumer reports and it lives up to the billing. I love the front load since it is much more energy efficient and easier on clothing. So far everything is fantastic and the only possible negative is the vibrating/shaking, but my basement floor may not be the most even surface so take the negative with a grain of salt.

I love it! :)
By gLaNDix from Newton, KS on 06/11/2007.
Pros: Clean Clothes Well, Adjustable Settings, Quiet, Energy Efficient, Large Capacity
Best Uses: Everyday Clothes, Bedding
Describe Yourself: Practical, Bargain Hunter
Cons: Shakes/Moves, Door hard to close
The only cons I have listed are very minor ones. I haven't actually done any work on leveling it (it was very close to being level out-of-box), so I'm sure the vibrations could be reduced by working with that, I just haven't had time. The only other complaint is that I wish the door would latch when I swing it shut. You actually have to press the door shut (and in the middle, not at the top) or it won't fully latch and will swing back open until you push it shut. It wouldn't be as big of a deal if I had the pedestals, because the middle of the door would be an easier reach. As with any front load, make sure you dry the rubber gasket inside the door after use and leave the door cracked so it can dry out and won't mildew. This isn't an issue with just this model, it's an issue with every front-loader I've used.I used to have Maytag Neptunes and loved them. Now, I can hardly believe that I was satisfied with them! This machine does a better job of getting things clean and was rated pretty high [...]. It's also very energy efficient and a google of the model number came up with numerous "green" links! :) I also love that after a spin cycle, it actually tosses around the clothes to avoid wrinkles and keep them from being plastered to the walls of the drum when you go to take the clothes out! Wonderful!!

The cycle time for the permanent press is 31 minutes. This is a very quiet machine. This model rates quite high in the "consumer report". We are very satisified with all aspects of this machine. I don't think you can get a better machine with all the options for the price. We purchased the matching dryer and are happy with it also.

By Happy Customer from Milwaukee, WI on 03/15/2007.
Best Uses: Delicates, Everyday Clothes, Bedding, Athletic Clothes
Pros: Large Capacity, Quiet, Energy Efficient, Clean Clothes Well, Adjustable Settings
I can't believe how much I love this washing machine. Our clothes look cleaner and feel softer. I was also expecting it to be noisy and shake a lot during the spin cycle, but this machine is so quiet , you can hardly hear it running, even on the first floor. I would highly recommend this washer to anyone!
Amazing Machine at an Amazing Price
By Peter C. from Chicago on 12/23/2006.
Pros: Adjustable Settings, Energy Efficient, Quiet, Short Cycle, Clean Clothes Well, Large Capacity
Best Uses: Can clean everything
A very well made, attractive Machine. Can't believe the quality and performance at this Price. I was looking for a shorter cycle front loader; some machines take as long as 90+ minutes!!. This front loader does a fantastic job on the average wash load in 45 minutes. It also has the functionality to adjust for any type of clothing or bedding. Twice what the Whirlpool front loader is at half the price!
