DO NOT BUY! I purchased this refrigerator about three years ago and have had problems continually. First problem: shelving rails kept breaking. I was sent several pieces to replace when broke. I was told it would keep breaking by a repairman, he said the rails were placed improperly in refrigerator. I was also told to push all my food to the back not to set anything in the front. Second: Ice keeps freezing together and crushed and regular ice is the same. Replaced part (paid service charge and replacement cost) and it still does not work properly. Third: Makes too much ice, overfills gets all over food (was told they would have to replace part again (another service charge and part replacement cost). I was told to push all food to the right side away from the vent inside of refrigerator. Fourth: Food gets ice crystals all over it and ice maker gets frost build up on it. Fifth: Have replaced produce bin twice because it has broken. Was told the way the shelf fits is put in improperly, nothing they can do to fix it. Sixth: Water dispenser hose freezes up. Replaced heating element (paid service charge and replacement cost) and less than a year later it is back to freezing up. Was told may have to replace heating element AGAIN or they could come and stick a weed eater string in it after thawing it and when it freezes jiggle the string and it might unfreeze. ( I will be charged for service call). I was also told to tape Styrofoam on inside door to insulate. I was told these refrigerators had a lot of these kind of problems by the repairman. I should not have to be putting weed eater string or Styrofoam in a refrigerator I paid a lot for. I asked if I could get the refrigerator replaced with a different one, I was told only if the motor quit could I do this. I did the weed eater string and styrofoam myself and it has worked so far.

Comments about GE Side By Side Refrigerator In Bisque:
We bought the refrigerator new when we moved in to our house. The problems began day one. The ice dispenser had to be replaced twice in the first month. The repairman then said that this was the best it was going to do. Almost immediately the water dispenser started to freeze up. I am constantly spending 30-45 minutes a week having to unfreeze it. The refrigerator side also freezes almost any thing on the top shelf. Finally, the water dispenser has quit working completely. The water stops at the water filter and does not dispense to the door or the ice maker. I will NEVER recommend a GE product to anyone.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Great fridge. Shoddy ice maker
from Houston, TX, United States
We bought this fridge when we moved to our new home in 2009. Luckily I bought an extended warranty because they have come out at least 4 times maybe 5, I've lost count. Now the the darn ice maker is not working again after the extended is expired and it doesn't qualify as a "lemon" Looking forward to going to battle.

This has model has been discontinued...understandably. About to call for another repair to the freezer unit. It will surely influence my ever buying another GE product.
Water Line Freezes Up on Model GSH25JSTASS

I am a MIT trained Mechanical Engineer. The design of the chilled water supply is pathetic. I have to turn off the refrigerator to let the water line unfreeze before getting water flow. So much for 6 sigma quality. No wonder Immelt wants to leave the appliance business.

After a couple years ice dispenser stopped working; only water works. Stopped cooling twice, apparently of the fans stopped working.

7 years old. Treated well. Kept clean. It breaks all the time. They make sure it breaks so you'll buy a new one before you should really have to. It came with the new house I bought. Poor quality.
So glad we have it!

We have had this fridge for over 4 years now and still no complaints. So much storage, plenty of adjustability, and works like a champ.

For the past 50 years we have purchased GE products, but this has come to a screeching halt. We purchased this refrigerator on May 24, 2008, and it died about 25 days ago in April 2014. Also, the ice cubes that were dispensed into the ice maker drawer continually stuck in the bottom and would not come out of the dispenser and we continuously had to "unstick" them.
Too many defects.....I do not recommend!

This refrigerator was a part of our appliance package when we built our home in 2008. After 4 years, the water line dispenser froze up resulting in repair costs and that cycle has continued. Year 5, the refrigerator stop cooling and frost began to build up in the freezer resulting in the replacement of the defrost heater and the defrost sensor. The repairmen mentioned that there was a recall bulletin issued on for the freezer door due to insufficient insulation in the freezer door around the water line dispenser. Does anyone know the process of getting the freezer door replaced based on the recall bulletin?
