Whirlpool AD75UST 75 Pint Electronic Dehumidifier, Model AD75U

Made for moisture removal in extremely wet areas, this ENERGY STAR ® qualified dehumidifier removes 75 pints of moisture per 24 hours in temperatures as low as 38° F. Ideal for use in laundry rooms, garages, basements, pool houses and summer homes.

Features:

  • ENERGY STAR® Qualified
  • Washable Electrostatic Filter
Some dehumidifier brands have electrostatic filters that must be thrown away and replaced after their maximum use. Whirlpool brand dehumidifiers feature an electrostatic filter that can easily be washed and returned to the unit for efficient filtration and performance
  • AccuDry™ Sensing System
Smarter than average. Whirlpool brand's unique AccuDry™ System revolutionizes air moisture removal. Rather than sensing air moisture levels after dehumidification, like most brands, AccuDry™ senses moisture before it is removed. This allows the dehumidifier to cycle on and off more regularly, providing reliable moisture control. And, the AccuDry™ System exhausts out the back of the unit preventing warm air from blowing directly into the room. Smart innovations to make you more comfortable.
    • Accurately senses air moisture
    • Unique system allows dehumidifier to cycle on and off more regularly
    • Back of unit exhaust keeps warm air from blowing directly into the room
  • 75-Pint Moisture Removal/24 Hours

  • EZ-Empty™ Bucket (Front Removable)

I would only recommend this unit for use in a basement. On the plus side it does a decent job of removing moisture and the bucket is easy to empty. It also is much lighter than other dehumidifiers I have owned in the past. My biggest problem with this model is the noise. The fan on it is very strong and moves a lot of air. In doing so it creates enough noise to make it unsuitable for any living area in the home other than an unfinished basement. My current Kenmore (I'm on #3) is quieter, but I hope that Whirlpool makes a more reliable product. So far so good, but it only has been one summer.

We use this dehumidifier in our basement. In Minnesota, it gets quite humid in the summer. Our humidity has been reduced notably; however, our humidistat rarely gets much below 50. I was hoping that we'd be able to get the numbers down into the lower 40s. I think the literature & reviews states thats possible. At any rate, our humidity problem has been significantly reduced. The humdifier is rather loud, but okay for a basement.

So far, so good. My basement was bone dry in a couple of days. This unit removes humidity really quickly. The multiple settings allow for easy adjustment. If the area you are removing moisture from is really humid, you may want to get an automatic submersible pump, otherwise you'll be emptying the catch basin quite a bit.

We just moved into a new house and felt like the basement needed a dehumidier. This unit is amazing. I know we could have emptied it 2 times a day. We kept it on high for a while then cut it back. If you can use a drainage pipe you would save some time, but we didn't have that option in this house. This is a large basement and the dehumidfier did a great job

We purchased the 50pt Whirlpool and were satisified but realized we needed a little more kick for stay dry power. We ordered the 75pt and have been completely satisified. The 75pt alone would have done the job sufficiently. The 75pt alone is much louder than 50pt (alone) however when the renovation is complete the carpet and walls will absorb much of the sound. Highly recommend these de-humidifiers.

Very efficient in reducing humidity. Last year, I placed one in my basement using the auto-drain hose into a sump. It worked so well that I got a second one for a storage room beneath my 4-season sun room. An added benefit is that I use the water instead of buying distilled water for ironing. A great, trouble-free unit that I highly recommend!

This unit does the job I purchased it for. We run it in the basement and I can empty it every day. I will probably hook up the hose to run it continuously so I won't have to empty it myself every day. It is noisier than my previous Sears model, but since it is in the basement, I don't care about the noise as much. I would not recommend it for an area where there is much activity going on and the noise could be bothersome.

It is a night and day difference from what we owned before. It is energy efficient and does not run all of the time. I also like the fact that it will not freeze up in our basement, which isn't the warmest place to be. It is a nice improvement from what we owned before. Not sure why we waited so long to update it. The fan is loud; however, it's not annoying. We do have the option to close our basement door.

Very effective. I use it in the basement to keep the humidity down. Without it, the level can reach 70%. This little baby can get it down to 50% in about an hour. I like the way it senses the moisture level and shut off. It restarts when the humidity level rises back up. It is a bit loud though, about the sound of a small window A/C unit. Still it's worth the effectiveness. Keeping it in the basement keeps you from hearing it. I use the included hose, and drain it in the floor drain. No problems. I just basically leave it on all the time, and let it regulate itself.

We had an older whirlpool dehumidifier in our basement that began icing up on us. We purchased this one thinking it would be big enough to handle the entire basement and the auto-defrosting feature would be great. We got it, plugged it in, and it works - our basement no longer smells musty. We have it draining into a floor drain via a hose and it has a nice feature that our old one didn't - instead of dripping into the bucket then connecting the hose to the bucket, on this one, you just connect the hose right to the part where the water drips out. The bucket stays dry and clean, which is great considering the old dehumidifier's bucket was always a moldy gross mess. This dehumidifier doesn't seem to run as long/often as our old one and Whirlpool claims it is energy-star rated, so I'm hoping to see a reduction on our electric bill. We haven't had it long enough to tell. One downside is that it is much noisier than our old one. We could probably fiddle with the fan speed to get it quieter, but right now our basement is unfinished, so I don't care. If and when we finish it, the noise may become more of a problem.Otherwise, we are very happy - this seems like a good unit, reasonably priced, [...] and it gets the job done.

I have had this unit for about 5 weeks now. I have placed it in a 1200-1300 sqft basement which had a humidity of about 67% before this dehumidifier. I started the unit on the "normal" humidity setting, and a fan speed of "auto". It took it about one hour of continuous run to bring the humidity down to 54-56% which is now very comfortable. Available desired humidity settings are "normal, dry, max dry, and continuous run". I tried it on the "dry" setting one day, and it ran for another hour and shut down when humidity in the basement reached about 45%. I have been running it on the "normal" setting since that test. The reason is that on the "normal" setting, it runs for about 2 minutes four to ten times every hour, depending on how humid outside is and if it is raining or not. On the "dry" setting it ran for about 4 minutes, stopped for about two minutes, and the same thing again. The water container is very easy to pull out and empty which I only need to do once or twice a day. The bucket is strong enough and easy to carry without a problem or a spill. When I received the unit, I had to push the hard plastic cover or the casing of the unit into its place. The front half of the unit snaps under the back half of the unit, but the front part of the case had popped out on both sides. So, it was either not put together well, or got moved out during the delivery. It is a very heavy unit, so it could have been a deliver issue. It would have been nice if the unit came with a digital humidity dial so that I could put the desired humidity on a number such as 48%. It is a very heavy unit, and not very easy to move from floor to floor. It has casters so it can be rolled to another room easily, but not up or down the stairs. It is very loud when it runs, so you cannot have it in a bedroom, or even near a bedroom. I can hear it run when I am on the first or even the second floor during the quiet of the night.

We put the unit in our basement and immediately noticed a huge reduction in dampness and mustiness. It was very easy to set up. The only thing I'm not crazy about is that you have to either choose a "dry" or "normal" setting. "Dry" basically makes it run all the time; "normal" cycles on and off but doesn't seem to make the basement dry enough. It would be nice to have the capacity to set a specific humidity level digitally. However, the unit works extremely well and is lightweight, attractive, and easy to use.

this product does exactly what i bought it for. The adjustable dryness settings are a very nice feature that allows for maximum dryness in the basement, and a more comfortabl level in the bedrooms. The only drawbacks are that it generates more heat than expected and is noiser than expected (I just run it in a different room than occupied) and the water pan is a little difficult to empty (spilled it all over the first 4 times emptying it).

I bought this Whirlpool Model because it had mostly good reviews in what seems like a dismal choice for a reliable and good performing large dehumidifier. I really wanted one that had a more adjustable Humistat than this unit but all the other models in this size range had horrible reliability and performance issues. I was worried about the negative reviews this unit got for noise but this unit is darn quiet. It dehumidified my 800 square foot basement from 78% to 38% in 24 hours at 70 degrees (Continuous Run Mode). The "Dry" humidity setting is maintaining a 65% humidity level. It seems Dehumidifiers these days are not as reliable as older ones and there are a lot of complaints for various reasons. But this one seems great so far and appears well made. The drain connection was simple and I like that the drain hose is not hooked in to the bucket - so no water constantly sits in the bucket and it cannot get moldy. I definitely recommend this unit - I hope it lasts.

Like many homeowners, in early June due to the torrential rains I got a lot of water in my basement. My previous dehumidifier had long since died, so I needed a new one, FAST! I could not find any Whirlpool dehumidifier locally (actually, due to the flooding, no stores had any dehumidifiers left), so I chanced upon ABT and ordered it online, and I'm so glad I did! After setting it up, in quite a short time my basement was very dry. This dehumidifier completely took away the moldy/mildewy smell that had started to plague my basement due to the flooding, and because it was so effective at taking the water out of the air, no mold or mildew has had a chance to grow. This dehumidifier has been a real Godsend to me and I recommend it highly to anyone wanting to quickly dry out a big space like a basement.

We researched dehumdifiers for almost 2 months before we decided on this one. The most popular brands available ( such as Kenmore and Frigidaire) did not have the capacity or durability for the price. We poured over consumer reviews and found that most products available had HORRIBLE reviews. In fact most people said their outdated Whirlpool dehumidifiers were better and lasted longer than other brands. This Whirlpool product has an auto on/off feature which means it only comes on when it needs to. The features available on this one was better than anything you could buy at Home Depot or Sears off the shelf. I have an 88 year old house with a very wet 750 sq ft basement that was starting to mildew and mold. Within 12 hours of installing the dehumidifier, the basement smelled better and the air was nice and dry. Unlike most dehumidifiers, this one does not need to run on a 12 hour cycle unless you want it to, and all the stats are adjustible. While some people may not like the noise, this unit is no louder than a window air conditioning unit, which I have several of due to no central air. It is a fantastic product. You definatley get your moneys worth. 5 stars.

I bought this unit for my condo to help remove summer humidity for personal comfort. If sleeping, I found it best set at normal or dry since it won't go on too much and will do good enough for the living space I have. However, if you need the unit on more often, it isn't noisy and sounds like a box fan. Since the top of the unit is where the handle is located is curved, you can't stack anything on it if you are squeezed for space so make sure you have a location with about 1.5 feet by 1 foot rectangular area where it can go.

The only negative that I can think of is that it is fairly loud. To do the job intended it has to have a strong fan. It's a nice machine. It was between this and the Frigidaire that is available through [...] right now. I like the durable finish of the Whirlpool. It is a rubberized plastic rather than the hard high gloss plastic of the Frigidaire. I'm using the drain hose to a condensate pump. This is my first purchase through ABT and I must admit to being very impressed....Good job ABT.

I returned this unit after a week. I placed it in my basement which currently has a humidity level of 60. Even after turning the unit all the way up, it never got the humidity lower than 58. The Kenmore I was replacing could bring it down to 50 or lower if I wanted (before it died). I know other reviews knocked this unit for the noise but it was fan noise and not really that bad. Unfortunately, it just would not extract the moisture.

[...]The machine is nice to look at and is light weight enough that I could carry it downstairs to the cellar. It even had coasters on the bottom that allowed me to just push it to where I wanted to place it once in the cellar. Set up was a breeze and it works wonderfully! The only con I have is that I can hear the unit working in the cellar from the first floor. I don't mind now once I thought about it...hearing it tells me its working without me going downstairs to check on it. The defrost feature is a godsend! You don't have to shut it off to melt the ice. I had purchased a "cheaper" unit at a local home improvement store and it lasted all of 3-4 years. Now I can't speak to how long this unit will last, but I could immediately tell that it was just better constructed. For a 75 pint dehumidifer, this thing is pretty quiet. Whereas my old dehumidifer would send an occasional trickle of water out of the drain hose, this thing really pulls water out the air quick. So far I'm pleased. But like I said, only time will tell how reliable the unit is.

The dehumidifier does a great job keeping our remodeled basement/family room nice and dry, but it is too noisy to run when we are downstairs in the evening watching TV. We run it all day when everyone is gone and then turn it back on when we all go to bed and that is sufficient for keeping the area dry. It is quite a bit louder than our last model, which was a Kenmore, but that one only ran for 11 months before the compressor went out. We're hoping this one will last much longer!

If you have a dank basement and are running it at full power, you will have to empty it at least twice a day. I hooked up the drainage hose and directed it to my sump pit. It's worked like a charm ever since! You must be careful where you aim the exhaust because the air comes out really fast and hot.

Also, the humidity control is not continuous like on most dehumidifiers. It has only settings like 'dry' and 'more dry', so and the humidity sensor in the basement varies a lot at any of these settings. Also, I'm not sure I'd believe all the positive ratings here, since i'm sure there are more negative ones that never get added to this site. I wrote a similar negative one several weeks ago that was not put on line.

Purchased to dry out a heated garage especially when vehicles are wet from rain & snow (water condenses on the windows). Garage is 850sf, unit is recommended for up to 1000sf. When unit is set to "normal/auto" effect is barely noticable after 24 hrs. When unit is set to "dry/auto" effect is barely acceptable. Compressor cycles on/off regularly. Fan runs almost constantly. Besides being generally ineffective, the noise is astonishing! I mounted it on a sturdy shelf on a common garage/house wall. When that compressor turns on, the house "hums" as if I had a diesel truck idiling in the garage. I should have just installed a large exhaust fan and went for the extra heat!

I bought this unit to keep our basement dry. So far it is doing a great job. I installed the included hose and have it draining into a sink. Be aware, the drain must be below the unit to use the hose, although I believe you can buy a separate pump. The unit actively monitors the humidity and turns on when needed. It has a powerful fan and is a little noisy, so I wouldn't want it running in my bedroom or living room. Seems to work very quickly. We can tell a huge difference in our basement. The humidity settings aren't very meaningful (I keep it on "dry"), but if you really care, buy a hygrometer.

Used in our 700sqf basement with moisture seeping through walls. The first few weeks we were getting 7 gallons a day. We couldn't believe where it was coming from. Didn't seem that bad. Our boxes and papers are crisp again! Working on hooking the drain to our sewer to not have to empty it twice a day. 3 weeks and still getting 4 gal every day.

I have a very humid basement, about 1200 sq ft, & needed to replace a couple old units that were inefficient and iced up. I've had this machine for several months & so far so good -- it has dried up my moist floors & sweating pipes, & stopped the mold growth so I can store things down there. It works fine on the auto setting. The pan is small, so I highly recommend using the hose connection instead to provide constant drainage so the unit doesn't stop due to a full pan. I bought a Little Giant pump to send the condensate outside since I have no sink or floor drain in my basement. Great product[...]

This the 4th dehumidifier we've tried in the 9 yrs. we've owned our 80+ y.o. home in Baltimore with a damp basement. Smaller units (Hampton Bay) broke down within months. Larger Hampton Bay replacements consistantly broke down just after the 1 yr. warrantee expired. A large Kenmore unit lasted longer (2 yrs.--just beyond its warrantee's expiration). This Whirlpool unit has many advantages to those tried before: For its capacity, it is lighter. The warrantee is the longest I've seen (5 yrs.). A hose (included) can be attached without having to remove the tank (this is appealing for asthetic and practical purposes). It functions at lower temperatures. Having it delivered via UPS meant that I didn't have to haul it to my car and get it into our house myself. As for noise, yes, it's noisy. But keep in mind that it is a dehumidifier. I don't think it's any more noisy than any other dehumidifier we've owned. Since it's in the basement, the noise is not particularly problematic. [...]

I've read from other commenters about noise issues. In my situation the dehumidifier is hidden away in a basement effectively doing it's job. Noise is not an issue. I also understand that it is a dehumidifier, which means it has a compressor and a fan, both of which are noisy operations. I didn't have any expectations it would sound like a toaster. The issue of noise being set aside, I've found the device to be effective in pulling excessive moisture out of my basement's air. I converted the device per instructions to use a hose instead of a pan. I can see how the varied controls would make deployment of the device quite versatile for different users. My one knock on the device is that to convert it to a hose requires a plastic tab to be permanently snap off the cover. If I ever decide to move the device and use the pan, then I will be stuck with a hole in the side of the unit. That could have been engineered with a little slide door or similar, so as to make the decision to use a hose reversible (from an aesthetic perspective).

1. Very damp basement. Lately have experienced some leakage when it rains. Pe-yew! 2. So far, this dehumidifier has done a good job collecting water from the air. It collects twice as fast as my old humidifier. 3. It is noisy enough that you probably would turn it off if it were in a room where you were watching tv. 4. Because the water pan fills fairly quickly and is small, I have to empty it at least twice a day. (You could attach a hose so that it could continuously drain outside, if you wanted to.) 5. The design of the pan makes it awkward to lift and empty without spilling. A minor annoyance. All in all, I'm happy with it so far; the next big rain is when it will really be put to the test.

I bought this unit because the basement of my 170 year old house (brick foundation) had a major mold issue and stank like mildew ALL the time. There was no water on the floor or the walls but the air was extremely wet down there. I could smell the musty smell after I ran the central air, and when i first came home from work; it was a huge issue. After the first 3 days I noticed a big difference. After 2 weeks cardboard left in the basement is no longer damp to the touch and the musty smell is gone. It is a noisy unit but being in the basement i dont care. Unfortunately i dont have a drain down there so I cant plug a hose up to it; I empty the fill container into a small bucket and throw the water into the garden 2-3x a day. When I first ran it, it took less than 4 hours to fill! It now runs constantly on the dry setting, filling up in about 8 hours. On normal setting it will run almost 12 hours before it gets full. I know i will pay for this on my electricity bill next month but the comfort and health issues are more important to me. I do wish the cord was longer, some of my electric plugs are high up so i can only place it in certain places. Definately a good buy if you have a dank basement.

We put this in the basement to get rid of excess humidity and that musty/moldy smell. I set it up in the morning and before dinner the smell was gone and I had to empty the pan. Now I usually have to empty it every morning. I want to set up the hose adapter to drain automatically, but I have to get to the store and purchase a hose. The only thing I would change about this product is adding a couple feet of hose so you can get it set up to drain out of the box without having to run out and make another purchase. Or offer a coordinating hose as an accessory purchase. I highly recommend this product.

Bought this to replace Sears 70 pint dehumidifier (also made by Whirlpool) that died after 4 years. This unit works just as well or better, is easier to remove and empty the water pan and is much quietier that the older unit I had. The only problem with it is the light that indicates the water pan is full. This light cannot be seen from two feet away. The angle of the faceplate and the fact that the indicator light is flush with the faceplate prevents you from seeing that it is on unless you are standing over the unit. Other than that, it is working well (in the three weeks I have had it).

I've had the dehumidifier for 2 months. I use this dehumidifier in the basement. It does a very good job in removing the humidity and associated smell of a damp basement. When removing the bucket full of water I have to take a little extra care not to make jerky moves or the water will spill a little because the entire top of the bucket is open (makes it easy to clean though). When removing the bucket to empty the water I place a cup in it's place to catch the leftover dripping that continues after shutoff. I sometimes removed a partially full bucket while the unit was running, and a few times it continued to run because the shutoff switch got stuck (did not pop out). The switch hasn't gotten stuck yet when I wasn't around and the bucket was fully filled up, so I have yet to have it overflow on me unattended. The bucket capacity could be bigger, but it's managable to carry upstairs to dump the water out. On very humid days the bucket fills up in five hours (amazing - that's why the bucket capacity could be bigger). I run the demumidifier on auto and most-dry settings, and when the humidity level is low it will shut off for a few minutes until it detects more humidity to remove (good for saving energy). So far I like this dehumidifier. My last Whirlpoool (prior model) lasted only three years, so I hope this one lasts a lot longer. Right now it's doing a fine job.

We bought this dehumidifier when we moved into a new house. We rent the first floor and the basement and it is great to have the extra space. But the basement smelled a bit musty and there was a very old dehumidifier there that ran all the time but didn't seem to be terribly effective. I decided to purchase this product because I felt that, while it was fairly expensive to purchase, it would be more effective and cost less in the long term for electricity (due to its efficiency rating) to run than the old unit. Plus, the unit is mine now, so it will go with us when we move in the future. The new dehumidifier has completely removed the musty smell from the basement (very quickly, I might add) and I am confident that the cost of operation will be less than the old one. One great feature is the ability to hook up a hose to the unit and have the water drain into the sump area. No dumping! Fantastic! The only thing that I have to do is brush off the plastic air filter every month to keep the unit operating at peak efficiency. I highly recommend this unit to others considering a dehumidifier.

It is a little noisy, and I probably wouldn't like it in my bedroom or TV room, but in the basement it's doing well. I've got a 1500 sq ft basement that was smelling pretty moldy and now it smells a lot drier and a little less moldy. I reviewed many dehumidifiers and my choice was based on product comments. This unit can be considered noisy. It sounds like an air-conditioning unit, which blows out warm/dry air. I have been thinking of putting the unit in an out of the way place to see how it works. Right now, I have it in the open. It has normal, dry and drier setting with auto selection for running. I had on the higher drier setting and it ran continuously. Glad there was an auto stop when the water pan got full. I then put in on the dry setting and it goes off after awhile. Down to empting the pan once a day. The basement is nice and comfortable. I havent had any problems with this unit since I bought it three weeks ago. It is worth the money.

We have a large basement, approximately 800 sq. ft., which contains storage space, laundry facilities, and a rec room. The entire basement is extremely humid, and we began to notice mold growing on lower walls, video game boxes, and items stored in boxes. We've had the above product for only 3 weeks, so my experience with it is limited to that scope. However, I am extremely impressed. I am amazed at the amount of moisture it can remove in a day. The product definitely works, and it is not as loud as others have claimed. I might not want to sleep next to it, but it is no more noisy than the dorm-sized refridgerator that is sitting near the T.V. And believe me, I can hear my Packers games just fine. As far as cons, I would have to say the 3 humidity settings are a bit limiting. I was hoping to set a specific humidity percentage in the basement, but the product only offers normal, dry, and max dry (as well as continuous use). It is anybody's guess what they represent. Also, others have complained that the water pan fills too quickly and, thus, has to be emptied too often. But that is what I purchased a dehumidifier for; I want it to remove a lot of water. To me, the more I have to empty the pan, the more I am reassured the product actually works. However, it would be nice if the manufacturer would include a cut-to-desired-length drain hose. The direct drain hook-up is useful, and a standard garden hose is compatible, but depending on the product's distance from a floor drain, I really do not want 10-25 feet of garden hose curled up in the middle of my basement for me to trip over. I don't even like that in my garage. Cons aside, I would recommend this product. We have not noticed any new mold growth since purchasing this product, and it definitely removes a lot of moisture from the room.

Within first hour I went from 71% humidity down to 60%. After another two hours I was down to 50% (Three hours total to get down to 50%). My basement is around 700 square feet. This one only has four humidity settings. The first setting got me to down to 60%. I am now on the second setting which got me to 48% percent so far. Like another reviewer stated, the noise level on the low setting on the fan is just about the same as high and just as noisy. If your going to be in a basement watching tv or something like that, it's just too loud. I guess you could turn it off, but who wants to do that? I had an LG model that had a digital humidity setting you could change in 5% increments. On this model, having four settings isn't all that flexible for the consumer. Also, the LG model you could tell it to run continuous, every two or four hours. This helped keep the noise down and gave your ears a break. Also, the fan blows the air to the right of unit. It would be nice if you could blow the air to the left or another direction.

The dehumidifier has dramatically decreased the moisture level in my un-insulated crawl space. My home was less than 1 month old, and already had a significant problem with condensation on A/C ducts that was wetting the framing and floor insulation. Within two days the condensation was gone, and afteer 1 week the framing and insulation was dry. The garden hose attachment point is easy to use, and since this unit actually removes a lot of moisture, I was emptying the drain pan before and after work each day unti I connected the hose. The unit is a little noisy, about like a window A/C, and would be distracting in a quiet room.

The dehumidifier works great. I like that fact that the unit shuts off automatically when the bucket is near full. However, when the unit is on it's maximum setting, it sucks ALOT of water out of the air and the bucket fills up quickly -- and since we use it in our basement, we have to empty the bucket twice a day - once in the morning and once at night so that that unit operates continuously. However, I'm sure that same thing happens with other units and at least this one does have a decent capacity compared to others.

Trying to suck the water out of the air in central TN after 20 years in the high desert is a challenge. I've got one of these puppies upstairs and one on the lower level. Can pull 2 gal. out of the air in 4 hours if it's really humid. Downstairs, I have a hose that sends it straight to a drain. Upstairs, have to use the bucket, but it is making a difference you can feel just walking barefoot across the carpet. It would be nice if it ran silently, but realistically, it's not nearly as annoying as someone talking during the program instead of waiting until the commercial to add their two cents!

When I first took the product out of the box, I knew I was not dealing with any ordinary dehumidifier. This unit is solid and well built. I like the wheels for easy movement of the unit. At first, I used this without a hose. I was emptying it every other day. I hooked the hose up, but it did not work at first. The water kept filling the pan. Then I read that the hose needs to be flat, plus the hose I was using was too long. I cut the hose, laid it flat, and it is working like a champ. I have not emptied the water pan since. My basement smelled and felt drier after the first day.

It is a surprising small product so I checked the paper work to see that I order the correct one ... yes this was the 70 pinter. This wentstraight into the basement where I was get water intrusion that gets absorbed by the wood and walls down there. After operating for 30 mins - the bucket was full - now, some may say that the bucket is too small (agreed - it is not too large which makes it easy to change of course). I would like to say that it is super efficient. I hooked the unit up via the direct drain/ hose link to the sink. The good news is that the drain hook up is in addition to the bucket so there is no poking holes in the bucket etc. The electronic controls are easy yet gives one a great range of options for how you want things to be. The basement became a 'dry' basement in a matter of 1.5 days (it is an area of about 1,000 sq ft) even in the humid weather that we are having. This unit does not stay on - it cycles on and off. For the dollar - you can not get better results [...]and I like to research things to get the 'best' product everytime. The bonus is that it is in a clean and modern design with no unsightly bits and piece - even at the back!

I've owned two previous dehumidifiers and they both suffered from poor performance including icing and noise. I decided to get a unit rated larger than I needed. It does make a difference. This unit actually cycles on and off as opposed to the prior ones which were constantly working. I think the ability to operate at a low temp is a factor too. The advice: Get as big a capacity unit as you can. It's more efficient and saves on wear of the unit.

Would not use it in living areas due to noise.

This dehumidifier delivers on its promises. I use it in my basement which often sees small running streams when it rains hard. This is the 4th unit I have tried, and already exceeds the others for its ability to dry the air in just a few weeks of use. The others couldn't do the job this one does in moisture removal and all but one suffered mechnical failures within 6 to 12 mos of 24/7 use. The external hose connection is the best I've seen. It is one piece so there are NO leaks...important to me because I have to use a 25ft hose to reach the basement sump and the backpressure from such a long hose almost always caused the inserted tube type hose connections to leak filling the water bucket and shutting off the unit. So far, not a drop of water in the bucket and the hose has a steady drip into the sump. Totally amazing to me!! The second unit of a different make, located in another part of the basement, has been turning off because this primary unit is sooooo fast and efficent with moisture removal. I might add that this unit runs quieter than any previous unit too. The first few times I checked on it, I thought it had stopped running since I didn't hear it from halfway across the basement. The basement, by the way, is a full one under a long raised-ranch house. I noted the other one had stopped running as I passed it and checked the electonic display to see if it was still on--it was. Within 10ft of this one, I could hear it humming away...doing the job of two effortlessly. So far, I can't find a con with the unit. I'll have to check back between 5 and 11 mos from now.

It is used in the basement of my old (new) Sears house (circa 1910) to monitor and dehumidify continuously the space. The basenment also serves as the laundry area, where partially dry clothes are let to "drip dry". The unit is a workhorse. I thought I had the "dehumidifier curse" as I have had three others (from a competing brand) that died early on me. Since the basement is where the HVAC system is in place, noise is not an issue. The unit is connected to an external Whirlppol dehumidifier pump kit that serves to push the destillate to a HVAC drain that is about four feet high and fifteen feet away from the dehumidifier. The water pan is not used.

I wondered if we really needed a 70-pint/day dehumidifier, but now I'm convinced we did. Water pulled from the air flowed from the machine into our sump in a steady stream for over a day. It would be a hassle if we didn't have a drain and had to keep emptying the pan. Aside from that, though, this is a fine product. Keeping the fan on low (and thus fairly quiet) seems to work fine. We purchased model #AD70USS1.I read the reviews about this product and was afraid that perhaps it would be a bad purchase. Some owners complained about noise, vibration, and bad wheels. We have had no such experiences. The wheels are sturdy enough for the product. There is some noise, of course, but nothing more than you would expect from a small A/C unit (But, being a dehumidifier, it blows out warm air instead of cold air). It would be nice if the unit made no noise, but that is not realistic. The dehumidifier works very well, drawing large amounts of moisture out of the air in a fairly short period of time. It draws out so much moisture that we joked if there were ever a shortage of water, we would have no problems as long as we had electricity, because the unit could pull as much water out of the air as we would need.I was also pleased to see that [...] wrote responses to customer complaints and made efforts to satisfy them.We needed a dehumidifier because the first year we installed window A/C units in our mobile home, the moisture was so high, our units became filled with mold, and we could not use them. I had to take them to my work, dissassemble them, and blast out the mold with a high pressure washer. Then I dried them, and wiped every surface I could reach with bleach water. So far the A/C units are all free of mold as far as we can tell.I suppose the only other thing we could do for the mold is to shock it with high levels of ozone ([...] As for suggestions for improvements, any reductions in the noise level would be nice.I like this dehumidifier and feel it is a good product purchased at a good price, and I also like the vendor--[...].

This powerful unit works great and is far superior to the three 40 pint units that I ran to death over the last 5 years. If you use a hose to drain this into a sump hole, you will be infinitely satisfied, and this unit will dry out the biggest wettest basements around. Strangely, this dehumidifier has a tiny bucket (smaller than on 40 pint units) so it fills up in a few hours. Since I am not home to empty it 5 times a day, the unit does not have the opportunity to dry out my basement as well as it should be capable of.

Worked directly out of the box, simple controls and it took-out much more moisture out of the air than I ever imagined! I didn't realize that we had moisture in our basement at all! Our basement is warmer and although didn't smell before, has a cleaner sense to the air. Only negatives are that it's loud (which I believe all dehumidifiers are) and that to have it continuously drain via a hose the unit must be higher than the drain (so we have it on a table draining into a sink.) [...] Highly recommended!!!

We have seen a distinct difference in the comfort level in our basement since using the dehumidifier. Prior to using it, the basement felt extremely cold, despite all AC vents being closed. Now the basement is considerably warmer, all attributable to reducing the humidity. The appliance was very reasonably priced, easy to order, and was delivered within three days. Sure you can hear the fan and compressor when it runs, but all dehumidifiers I have use make noise and this one is no louder than the 10 year old 40 pint unit it replaced. The controls are easy to use and the bucket is easy to empty, but it is SMALL for a 70 pint unit, so you will have to empty often or connect a hose and run it to a drain. Plus, still made here in the U.S.A.
