There is only one room that I can install any a/c unit and I need to be able to unintall it out of the window easily (versus trying to take out a window unit). This turned out to be the perfect solution. It cools very quickly, and although it is in my sunroom, the adjacent room is very cool also, and it even moderately cools the third room over (with help from a fan). The window adapter is well made, but unfortunately my window was so narrow that it wouldn't fit and it had to be sawed down.

The AC worked fine and I was able to try it in a couple different windows until I got it right, which I couldn't have done easily with a window unit. It has also been useful as a dehumidifier without running it on cool. It's nice that you can vent the water without having to empty anything. I had a window that was actually too narrow for the vent - I would have had to cut the slide-out panel to make it fit, so I cut an extra piece of plexiglas to get it to work. Be aware of that if you expect it to fit anywhere. That said, it does not cool nearly as much as claimed in the product specs (according the the square footage, I should be able to cool my living room and bedroom, but it has to be cranked just to do the bedroom even with the doors closed), and you have to set it beyond the temperature setting to get even a small room down to where you really want it. I will probably get window units next year and only use this in emergencies, but that's what these units are good for.

WISH WE WOULD HAVE BOUGHT IT SOONER ! WE BOUGHT A BI-LEVEL AND THE CENTRAL AIR JUST DOES NOT COOL THE 2ND FLOOR--THIS PORTABLE COOLS OFF THE BEDROOM IN NO TIME AT ALL. WE TRIED TO PUT IN A WINDOW AIR CONDITIONER BUT NONE OF THEM FIT THE UPSTAIRS WINDOWS. THIS WAS SO EASY TO PUT IN THE WINDOW WE COULD NOT BELIEVE IT. ONLY NEGATIVE WAS THE MOTOR NOISE BUT WE ARE ALREADY USED TO IT. WE'RE THINKING OF BUYING ANOTHER FOR THE COMPUTER ROOM AND GUEST ROOM TOO !!

A little over-kill for a small room but its portability makes it more versatile,the condensation line is good because it has a water pump and is not dependant upon gravity and fits nicely through the rubber grommet. The weatherstripping is inferiror because it sticks to everything and can't be lifted for repositioning (but don't let it affect your decision,the window kit is easy and well-designed)
