difficult to keep clean; light switch flimsy
Comments about Broan 30" Deluxe Hood:
We have had one of these hoods for years. The alcoves --the hollow areas on either side of the blower up above the filters-- are impossible to keep clean. Also, oil and grease collects in the wells at the bottom of the filters, and the metal is sharp there, so it is easy to cut your fingers when wiping out those wells. A better design would eliminate nooks and crannies to make it as easy as possible to keep clean. The sliding on/off switch for lights is plastic and with repetitive use will one day snap, and it's expensive and a pain to repair, requiring complete disassembly of the unit and the purchase of an entire assembly, not just the broken part. That front panel should simply snap out to make such a repair, but it doesn't. The fan is relatively noisy when vented out the rear and running at or near top speed. It doesn't do a great job removing smoke such as when grilling a steak at a fairly high heat. The two small bulbs are in the front, and so the rear of the cooktop is not well lit. We bought the unit because of its size (33") but then Broan discontinued that size in the lineup.

About Me Avid Cook, Gourmet Cook
I bought a vented version. Our kitchen remodel is still ongoing, but it's now in a functional state. I was roasting red peppers by burning the peppers, placing them directly over the flame on the stovetop gas burners, turning them as they blackened - a fabulous but extremely messy and smoky technique. The fan was on high, and you could barely smell the roasting inside the kitchen. My carpenter passed by the fan exhaust outside the house and said it blew his hair back. Last night I was frying chicken, when my husband took out the trash - a good 40 ft from the fan vent. He said it smelled great out there. The variable speed fan is so quiet that when its on low you can barely hear it at all and on high - well what I've said above basically says it all.
