Easy to install and convert to LP. I was all proud after setting it up; on the first try it cooked disappointingly. I was ready to complain about GE's $#%^$% but decided it must be user/installer error. The flames looked good but didn't kiss the bottom of the pans. After I got the regulator insert turned the right way for LP, it sears a steak like a champ and simmers gently.

We have had this appliance for 6 weeks. Looks great and cooks extremely well. Unfortunately I can not understand what all the hoopla is about stainless steel- Would "NEVER" buy another ss cooktop again. Had the cooktop one week and it had to be replaced due to a tiny scratch which would not come off. I don't know if it was on it when delivered and installed or if we did it, but GE was gracious enough to replace it. You "MUST" be extremely careful when removing or replacing a grate as it will scratch the ss with the slightest touch. Also if any food should splatter on the ss make sure you remove it at once or you may never get it off and even then you need to be extremely careful not to scratch the ss. Also we were told by a GE serviceman to "ONLY" use mild soap and water when cleaning around the knobs as the numbers are painted on and if using anything stronger, (like ss cleaner) the numbers can come off within a very short period of time.Prior to this we had a GE profile glass top for approximately10 years and we found it to be quite a chore to clean, unfortunately now we wish we had it back..

Comments about GE Profile 36" JGP975SEKSS Stainless Steel Built-In Gas Cooktop:
The numbers on ours are wearing off also..that is really irritating. We also have one burner that is "touchy". Other than that it's been a decent appliance

Actually lives up to its literature qualities

Our gas cooktop was installed in December 2014. After lots of shopping and comparing product features. This is a great product... cleans easily ... cooks evenly ...and looks great in the process.

I chose this as an upgrade in our new home. Grate too far off the flame. Scratches extremely easily. The grates are rough and the stainless top constructed of cheap soft stainless steel. It is an attractive cooktop, if that is what your looking for.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
I thought this would be my dream cooktop!
from Grand Junction, CO, United States
We bought this cooktop in 2011, it is absolutely the worst appliance to maintain that we have ever owned. The grates look as if they must be 15 to 20 years old. We have replaced the rubber feet for grates and rings for the knobs. Would replace the grates but it would be more of the same. Last GE appliance for us!
Disappointed in Grates
from Fairfax Station VA
We have had GE Profile appliances and have always been happy with them. We wanted to replace an electric Profile with a gas cooktop. We are very disappointed to see that the porcelain coated cooking grates have scratched down to bare metal after our fist use of the cooktop. We used smooth bottomed pots and pans as advised but still have scratched grates. This is clearly a design flaw that GE should resolve. Otherwise the cooktop works fine.
Burners have different "speeds"

I like this cooktop very much. I noticed some reviewers complained that it "took forever" to boil water. Please note that some of the burners are more powerful than others on this model: Burner - Left Front 9,100 BTU Burner - Left Rear 9,100 BTU Burner - Right Front 11,000 BTU Burner - Right Rear 5,000 BTU Precise Simmer (don't use to boil water here!!!) Burner - Center 17,000 BTU Power Boil
Cooking with GAS!
This replaces a GE Glass Top Cook Top which funtioned perfectly. Only replaced that with this Stainless Steel unit because we blew a bunch of money on all Stainless Steel appliances in the kitchen. Happy wife, happy life.

Great looking, but grates are too high.
from Franklin, TN, United States
Was excited to have gas cooktop, but am terribly disappointed at how slow it is to heat. Unfortunately, it had been installed several months before I actually used it, so store-return wasn't possible. I contacted GE about grates obviously being too high away from heat source. Hoping they will provide better-fitting grates-----or replacement of unit.
