Unresolved Issue

BOTTOM LINE No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
I bought this item for 2 reasons. 1. I have used a countertop convection oven for years. For 2 people it cut baking time in half and used less power than the range oven. 2. I have a GE profile dishwasher that I like very much. When we remodeled the kitchen, this unit replaced a countertop microwave and a separate convection oven. The microwave works well. The controls take a little getting used to. The review that states you can't do 40 seconds is mistaken, there is an express feature that allows 30 second increments as well as another feature that allows you to choose different times. The fan/vent works well, also. My issue is with the convection oven not reaching temperature. You can select auto offset to adjust for standard oven recipes ( reduces the bake temp by 25 degrees) or remove the offset and calculate the temperature manually. With the offset removed, my oven was reading 350, but the measured temperature was actually 300. It was really easy to schedule a GE repair on line. The technician was timely. He confirmed the oven was 48 degrees off and ordered both a thermostat and motherboard. [...] The second technician replaced the motherboard, but not the thermostat. He did not want to damage the cabinet molding. The result is that the oven still does not reach temperature, it is now 30 degrees off. Come on, this is a brand new appliance! Now I have rescheduled again. If it is not fixed this time. I am asking for at minimum a refund. Oh and it does take way too long to pre-heat. My kenmore range gets to temperature in half the time. Convection ovens are supposed to save time and energy.

Great 2nd Oven / microwave easy install

BOTTOM LINE Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.
We bought this oven a month ago and have used it often. We have tested most of the features. we instaled it ourselves (replaced another over the range microwave) and took about an hour. As a microwave it works great just like most others. Dial vs buttons takes a few days to get use to but after that you dont even think about it. After reading reviews that spoke the amount of time it takes to preheat the oven we knew going in that it would take longer than a normal gas oven to heat to temp. When we use it as an oven, We just plan ahead and turn it on 10 mins prior to when we want to cook it takes about 10 mins to get to 350. As long as you know to give a little extra time for the warm up you can plan for it and it is no big deal. We use it to cook stuffed pizza and it works great.

Because of moving and failures (other products), this is the fourth over-the-counter microwave oven I've installed. It's not hard, but--unless your cabinets are flat on the bottom--you need to cut three blocks that fill in the gap under the cabinet you're hanging it from. For our cabinets, this meant that the blocks needed to be 1-1/8" thick--not a standard size for wood. It was handy to have some shop tools handy to cut the blocks to the right sizes. My wife likes the cookbook that came with it, and we've enjoyed meals from several of its recipes. We'd both be happier if the door opened by pushing on something to release the latch; instead, you must pull on the handle and overcome the latch to get the door open. We're both being careful not to pull down the microwave, the cabinets, or the wall when we open the door.

good microwave, nice extra oven
Reviewed by Andrew G (Casual Cook) from Fort Collins, CO on May 30, 2007

BOTTOM LINE Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.
We bought this microwave to replace a dying GE JVM1851 micro-hood. The hope was that since the microwaves were the same brand, they would share the same mounting hardware. Unfortunately, that turned out not to be the case -- the rear bracket was slightly different, and the mounting holes on the top were in slightly different locations. So installation was a pain. The microwave itself is quite nice. We had looked at a kenmore convection oven/microwave combination, and had concerns about the stand used for convection baking. The kenmore had a pretty flimsy looking circular stand that sat on top of the turntable. This GE microwave has a much beefier shelf that you put in that extends the full width of the microwave, which is much nicer. It also comes with a second shelf in case you have multiple trays to bake at the same time. Very nice. We also looked at the advantium 120 model, but decided against it because we really couldn't figure out what the advantium thing was, and the microwave was smaller and lower power in the same space. One complaint I have is that the door is a bit wobbly compared to our old unit. The lines don't always line up right when you close the door, although you can give it a nudge to line things up nicely. I don't know if that is just the way this microwave's door works, or if we got a bum unit. But the door functions just fine. All in all, I am very happy with this microwave. It gives us a second oven when we need it, and does a fine job as a microwave.

My oven is located above a Jenn-Air range with a single oven. The convection oven feature adds a valuable second oven to our kitchen. And microwaving is a snap with the control wheel and touch panel for many purposes. Put in a cup of coffee and hit "beverage", and it is perfectly warmed. Hit the same button three times and two large mugs of coffee are warmed to perfection. And so it goes for many specific applications. I can recommend this microwave/convection oven to anyone wanting to make a valuable addition to their kitchen.

I was skeptical about the electric convection part of this oven, but it's proven to be great. I use it mainly for cookies (cook at 325, not 350) and fishsticks. The microwave works as good as you would expect, and the features on the panel seem to be complete. Was able to install this with minimal help to get the cord routed. Main frustration was that a charcoal filter was not included (I need it to vent indoors.) But the fan is strong and not too loud.

The only complaint I have is that the oven pre-heats pretty slowly in convection modes. The programming/operation is also somewhat confusing at first mostly because of the big dial that controls so much. As I have gotten used to the dial, I have begun to really like this approach.

This oven is an excellent alternative to a countertop microwave or convection oven. It is the best of both worlds. It is nice not having to use your regular oven to make brownies or other baked goods. It would be nice to be able to leave the racks in when using microwave only. This is a great value. I have owned this for 3 weeks and it has been great so far. I also love the fact that this oven can be vented internally. It would be nice if the charcoal filter for internal venting was included with the oven. Thanks ABT
