The product is great. Easy to change these filters with the quick connects provided once you have those installed. I can now change a filter in about 10 seconds but am a bit uncertain about trying it without first shutting off the water. Though when I did it, I shut off the water but didn't drain water from the lines before I changed the filter and I had no leakage so perhaps it's true that the auto-shutoff on these connections works.

Directions for replacement should be simplified to "push down on gray plastic tab and insert input side. Flush. Push down on gray plastic tab and insert output side. Done." Instead the directions talk about the connective parts that used to be included with the filter. I started to remove the old parts before realizing the package didn't contain the parts in the directions. When I reassembled the filter appeared to work fine. No leaks. The next day, leaks. I called GE. The snap on plastic parts are no longer made. I can't stop the leak and I am out of luck.

Filter is missing one connector

By

from Santa Maria, CA, United States

Comments about GE SmartWater In-Line Refrigerator Filter - White Finish:

The inlet side is missing the coupling. I can push the hose in, but there is nothing to lock it. Looks like it skipped part of the manufacturing process. I don't have a receipt to return it. The filter was new. The other ones that I have bought didn't have this problem.

Hard to rate

By

from Vienna, VA, USA

Comments about GE SmartWater In-Line Refrigerator Filter - White Finish:

This filter was easy to install and seemed to do a good job of cleaning and improving the taste of water going to my ice maker. Unfortunately, after several months of use it sprung a spontaneous leak at the inflow connector. This resulted in damage to my floor and ceiling of the bedroom beneath the kitchen. When I say spontaneous, I mean no one had come near the filter and it had not been moved. I simply sat on the floor behind the refrigerator. So I cannot recommend any of the GE filters with the push in O-ring type connector.

Comments about GE SmartWater In-Line Refrigerator Filter - White Finish:

Bought this to replace an existing filter. Although it came with tall the hardware to do an intial install, we really didn't need it since it was a replacement. If you are installing for the first time, it may be a little bit of a challenge but the hardware is all included. The quick release fittings allow for easy replacement.

Comments about GE SmartWater In-Line Refrigerator Filter - White Finish:

I hooked this filter up to my GE fridge and noticed a difference from the start. WARNING! Make sure you flush the filter as stated in the directions. Being the typical guy I am I didn’t read the instructions completely, and had to run a couple batches of ice to get the carbon completely out. All in all for the money you can’t beat it. Just don’t expect a miracle.
