CableCARD™ is the name of a limited access control card provided by the local cable company that allows Digital Cable Ready TVs to receive, decode and de-scramble premium digital channels without the use of a cable box. On-screen guides are not provided by the cable company but alternative guides are often available. The CableCARD™ is provided by the local cable company.
