Panasonic VIERA 50” HDTV Plasma Flat Panel, Model TH50PX60U Panasonic VIERA PLASMA Televisions From input to display, VIERA uses all-digital video signal processing for true-to-life color, breathtaking contrast and exceptional clarity. This process creates images that are both visually appealing and capable of delivering tremendous emotional impact. Panasonic’s commitment to achieving the ultimate in picture quality is reflected in the fact that all key components of VIERA plasma televisions, from processor to driver and panel, are produced at Panasonic’s own facilities. Video Demonstrations: (Click hyperlink text to view) Features: - A Cinema-Style Viewing Experience At Home
This widescreen TV features a width-to-height ratio similar to movie theater screens, providing a theater-like experience at home. View widescreen broadcasts and widescreen DVDs the way they were meant to be seen. - Aspect Ratio
The term "aspect ratio" describes the relationship between the width and height of a TV or display screen. Traditional displays have an aspect ratio of 4:3, meaning that for every 4 inches of width, there are 3 inches of height. This results in a screen that looks almost like a square. Many newer displays have an aspect ratio of 16:9, so their screens are almost twice as wide as they are tall. Also referred to as "widescreen," 16:9 displays are better suited to widescreen DVDs and HDTV broadcasts. The term "aspect ratio" can also be used to describe the dimensions in which a film or TV program are shot. Traditional broadcasts are usually in 4:3 format, while HDTV broadcasts have an aspect ratio of 16:9. - HDTV/EDTV Display Capability (1080i, 480p)
Select TVs enable you to view high-definition or enhanced-definition TV programming in the 1080i or 480p signal format. In order to do so, the TV must be connected via its digital component video inputs (Y, PR, PB) to a DTV set-top box and switched to DTV mode. A DTV signal must be present in your area and the set-top box must be tuned to the proper channel. An external over-the-air antenna may be required*. - Contrast Ratio
A high contrast ratio provides deep blacks and bright whites. Contrast can vary depending on your viewing environment and lighting conditions. A dark room with minimal lighting will help maximize contrast ratio. - Progressive Scan
Displays a full frame of video in 1/60th of a second by de-interlacing the incoming video signal and progressively scanning the image. With it, you generally don't see the horizontal scan lines that are often visible in ordinary television images. - Surround Sound
Simulates stereo sound—even from a monaural source—by delaying the original, 2-channel sound to create a "surround" effect. - V-Chip Program Lockout
The V-Chip allows users to block programming that may be inappropriate for certain viewers. Using program ratings embedded in TV broadcasts, the V-Chip lets parents decide the programming to which their children have access. Blocked program material is accessible only by entering a 4-digit code that parents create. - S-Video Input Jack
Allows you to connect a DBS (digital broadcast satellite), DVD player, or other video source directly to the luminance and chrominance circuits of the TV set. By keeping color and luminance information separate, cross-color interference is virtually eliminated from the picture. Footnote: - Optional set-top receiver required to view DTV programming. Optional external over-the-air antenna may be required for ATSC reception. If your cable company "passes through" a DTV signal unchanged, an optional HDTV set-top receiver can decode and tune the program. However, standards for cable connectivity have not been finalized. Consequently, this product may not be compatible with your cable system.
