Great sound

Although I liked the product in general, I returned the item and requested another one because it got 'stuck' on the 'line' setting after a whole weekend of use. Nothing I tried would reset it [...] I could not reset it to use the cassett, the cd, AM/FM and even the sound button would not work. It just got 'stuck' on the 'line' setting.

I LOVE GOOD SOUNDS AND LOUD MUSIC EVEN THOUGH I'M A 60 YR OLD GRANDMA-THIS THING CAN'T FIND A CHANNEL AND FOCUS (much static)THE CASSETTE FUNCTION IS AWFUL. COULDN'T PLAY BECAUSE THE BUTTON WOULDN'T STAY DOWN AND RECORDING WAS NEAR TO IMPOSSIBLE. CD SOUND WAS GREAT AND SO IS THE SOUND ON THE RADIO. I BOUGHT THIS FOR ALL 3 FUNCTIONS BUT COULD ONLY USE 2 AND I HAD THIS THING FOR 6 MONTHS --NOW I'M LOOKING FOR A REAL RADIO CD PLAYER AND CASSETTE THAT FUNCTIONS PROPERLY.

I had read other reviews before choosing to purchase this boombox. I'm so glad I made the choice to purchase. This boombox has amazing sound and every option for listening to music (at least the kind I listen to) Radio, cassettes, cd- just super sound and exactly what I was hoping for! If your on the fence, take a chance...you'll be glad you did!

We initially wanted soemthing for a backyard birthday party and this was perfect. The sound came across strong and clear. It will go with us on picnics and camping trips. In the meantime, it has become the main music source for our daughter's bedroom. There are not to many choices out there in the way of boomboxes, glad that Sony has produced something worthwhile.

Love this... We had the earlier verson of this and used it for teaching dance for years! I would highly recommend this for professionals that care about what they are presenting. It works great on burnt cds off of pcs.

I needed a system powerful enough to be heard in our practice setting (corner of High School gym) for the Cheerleaders to learn Dance Routines. Our first CD Boombox could not be heard once they started dancing! This is PERFECT, LOUD, and we can plug in MP3's (iPods) for more music choices. This player also can be plugged into the school's sound system for our 'Half-time performances'! It is everything I needed!

I got this to replace a box whose CD player developed the skips and jitters. This one is great and the sound is just right.

Yes, i really like this product.

We wanted something that makes our music cds sound great - this does that. We also use it for listening to teaching cassettes/cds, books on tape, and occasionally record a radio program to play back at a later time. We have even plugged our midsize tv into it for great stereo sound.

I really love this boombox. The music sounds great. I bought it for my son's birthday party to play carnival music while everyone was playing games. The music was clear and the sound was awesome, I had several people comment on how good it sounded.

I think the Sony CFDG 505Black boombox is a very good system and the performance you get from it is incredible. The bass is strong and really gives music full sound that doesn't sound in any way mitigated. The power behind the system is not just the woofer but also the exceptional speakers that handle the rest of the frequencies and the very intuitive sound modes.

I really think for the money you cannot go wrong with this boombox. Very clean bass,not at all muddy. Sony balanced the midrange and highs quite nicely with the bass. Even at its loudest, the sound can be adjusted to get a good, overall clean sound. I found the AM/FM tuner remarkably sensitive, picking up Chicago stations 55 miles to our NW, especially living in a valley that otherwise wreaks havoc with reception. A huge plus! The fact that you can hook auxilary devices such as MP3 players, TV's, PC's, etc. is also very handy. The only "con" to this box is its exterior. Alot of people call it ugly, but I like it. Very funky and really the talk! This is one boombox that would be a shame to pass up simply because of its looks. BTW, ABT had the best price on this box.

This Sony boom box puts out the sound quality i was hoping for, i use it in the backyard around the pool area. Good base sound, being portable it is heavy, but looks great and sounds great. The LED display could be larger, but overall good buy for the amount of money. [...]

Tough design for outdoor play, back yard BBQ, good sound from the power driver woofer. Better than the average boom box. Only CON is the small digital read out.

For anyone with a CD collection (no i-Pods or MP3's) that wants to hear different idioms accurately (big bass rock/smooth soft jazz). I use it at the office to listen to commercial CD's and my own mix-downs. Able to record cassett copies if I want to. Big, sturdy unit. I like it a lot!

This is better than many models and if you are buying in the [$] range go ahead its a good deal. The sound is good not tinny like many cheaper boom boxes. I can't say the sound is great, it has a lot of volume, and neither would I say its bad. The extra base controls are probably good for rap and rock n roll(after all it is called a boom box) and no ability to adjust for treble --which would help It's getting harder to find the basic boom box with cd and tape. I'd be surprised if the CD player lasts a long time--it seems like its completely plastic.While space age looking its not too bad for a kitchen or office, perhaps not in your living room.In its price range probably one of the best deals around.Overall I would recommend.

I have the unit in my shop; it picks up radio stations well; the remote is useful to turn on and off (I have it up fairly high and covered); it has very good sound (especially CD's). It is very heavy and, I think, very aesthetically unpleasing (the front center design, is, to say the least, unattractive. However, besides the bulkiness and weight, the unit has no apparent drawbacks. I think it is well worth the money for the quality sound.

great sound from a boombox equal to a home system

i use this boombox in a manufacturing facility that is loud and have no problem hearing it over the loud machinery. also, the radio reception is superb considering the amount of steel the building i work in contains.

The sound on this boom-box is awesome! The controls are user-friendly and straight-forward. The size is somewhat problematic but I guess that's the price you pay for good sound quality/volume and HEY ....it's a SONY! I don't know how ABT makes any money on this but I ain't complainin' ...they packaged this thing for a nuclear war too! I know this much ...I'll be shopping here agian!!

I got this box to use as a compact home theater speaker. It is cheaper than buying powered speakers and it has a radio tuner. The Xplod is probably the best value out there combining a reasonable purchase price and good sound quality.

I was expecting AMAZING sound since all the reviews were so glowing. The only knock was how heavy it was, and yeah it is, but I took that as a positive since most boomboxes these days are so light and flimsy. I've only had it about 10 days so it's not old. But the base is already sputtering - which doesn't sound great, and signals that it's gonna bust and get even more distorted soon. Problem is there really aren't many boomboxes to choose from these days. With the I-Pod revolution they just don't put any money into making quality boomboxes anymore. This may be about the best you can find. It looks like a trapper keeper too - pretty butt-ugly. Oh, ABT is the best price I found for it and I looked for a long time. Get the best deal you can since it's not fantastic, but no boombox is anymore.

Overall I'm satisfied with this product although sometimes CD skips when you hit a bump.

I used both the CD and radio. I put it in my office, as it is more handy to set up than a stereo, and its sound is of good quality. I would like to connect it to a computer and try it.

Having the remote to change stations, etc. will make painting from a ladder so much easier.

I played xplod in an open area and it did produced a great sound. MP3 & CDR media played well. Overall this boombox is great. I give it 4.5 score to give room for improvement in the digital readout which is too small. It was difficult to read.

i bought one for each of my daughters for their room. i also ordered one for a co-worker. everyone is happy.

This boombox has excellent sound and is much more powerful than the two previous boomboxes I have owned. It is a little bigger and bulkier than my other ones but the sound quality and power may be worth it.

I use this product in my home gym and outside at our pool. No matter how noisy things get, the sound remains clear and strong even at high volume.

I play exercise CD's to students in a Middle School gym. The sound fills the entire space epecially the booming bass. Bose can't touch this baby for the price! There is a reason it's on theheavy side, large speaker magnets. Flimsy instruction brocher should have been bound on better paper.

My X-PLOD is the best big boy boombox you can get at any price. Even beats the "B" radio! If my radio was to quit, it would instantly be replaced. I hooked an HD radio to it, its totally awlsome Dudes! Even net radio is killer on my X-PLOD! Its a no brainer!

the line-in for my Ipod is great; the bass is remarkable for a boombox at this price; and it is very stylish--love the black and red! It has everything I need and more. Somebody should tell Sony they should keep making these rather than discontinue them, which usually happens for products that aren't marketed much.

Nice boombox...I know others who have this model at work and know they can really push out the volume in a noisey workplace. I wanted this mostly for outdoor use. I like the aux input for my mp3 player. It seems to be very durable.

This is a GREAT boombox for the money. The sound is outstanding for a portable stereo and your mp3 player can be used thru it with great sound. It has many features and a nice EQ for all types of music. It's a little heavy but with the sound quality you get it has bigger speakers. Besides your not carrying it around anyway.I shopped around and nothing come's close to the sony for sound quality, portability and durabilty in this price range. GREAT BUY!!!!!

Works great in every aspect

I purchased this for a chorale to use for rehearsals. This had the best bass response (thanks to the built in subwoofer system), and the highest undistorted volumn level of all the portable boom boxes I checked. I also appreciated the input for I pods and other mobile devices.

This boombox is amazing! I work in a loud factory and wanted something that would outdo the machines. That woofer gets the job done. The handle makes it easy to carry. I bought this boom box to use when I teach my Zumba class. One of the most importants parts of Zumba is to be able to connect with and feel the music... you can definitely do this with the Xplode! Great sound, very loud, awesome bass, over all an awesome little sound system. My only cons is that its a little heavy, even without the batteries and the display is kind of hard to see. I still think it's a great boom box!

I use this product when I am teaching and it works great...the only down side is that it is heavy and I have to carry it in and out of each building I teach at everyday of the week....I'm building muscles I guess. : )

For under [$] shipped through Abt, the Sony CFD-G505 stands alone. Sure, its looks are over the top, but sound-wise this unit plays in the league of boomboxes costing at least [$] more. Tack on the fact that it comes with a Line In jack, you're good to go with an MP3 player or anything else you'd care to jack in, in addition to the cassette, CD, and radio it comes with. I'd be surprised if you found another unit with sound quality this good in this price range.

Still deciding whether to keep -- was a Christmas Gift -- Not too impressed with size and the Bass/Boomy sound level selections...still trying different settings on different volume levels.

This is a good radio for outdoor use. The sub woofer has a lot of punch for a portable radio. There are preset profiles for bass, mid, and treble settings which eliminates constant fiddling with sound controls.

Great boombox...nice features, wonderful depth, and is louder than most boomboxes (this is important because it is used in a noisy shop where pumps are repaired). I highly recommend it.

DId a lot of research, this is by far the best product for the buck!! great sound , lots of options,durable too!!! I had two other teachers wish they had done the research too!!!!!!!

This thing KICKS... you know. It's got SUPER bass power, a Strong FM tuner, and a feature loaded remote. The cassette is a waste though. Line In- is a great feature! Only drawback is it's size and weight, it is a beast! Loudest, strongest boombox I've ever seen!!! IT THUMPS! BUY IT- You won't be sorry!!!

Great sound, especially for its size. The sound is clear with no distortion when its cranked up. I would recommend it highly. You can't beat it for the price.

My 16 year old son absolutely LOVES this boombox.

I guess I was expecting a Bose, but got a good sounding system. The display really, really needs some backlighting as it is almost impossible to read with my 48 year old eyes.

This box does exactly what I wanted it to do--pump out some powerful sound. Works great. I mainly wanted it to connect to my Logitech Wireless DJ or mp3 player, but the cd and radio also work well. Haven't tried the tape and may never even bother. The remote gets the job done. It is large and somewhat heavy for portable audio, but how else are you going to get a deep rich powerful sound? I haven't used it with batteries and probably won't need to--I'm using it on the deck/patio with access to AC power. It would have been nicer for it to have a built-in mp3 decoder to play mp3 discs should the need arise. This was the only box I could find that had the features I needed. I considered giving it 5 stars, but decided there's always room for improvement--mp3 decoder, smaller size/weight. I do not regret my purchase one bit and would buy it all over again.

I did not realize what a boom box would look like. It is big and heavy and has red chrome on part of the front. The features and sound were very good.
