Analog broadcasts may lack in quality, but true hi-def transmissions are spectacular, portrayed with great contrast, good gradations and popping colors. We easily drew in over-the-air channels on our existing TV antenna set up in our attic.I set the sharpness at 0 (the lowest setting) to minimize unusual jaggies (bitmapped squares), and we sit back at least 10 feet. There is some lag when changing channels, so if you're a surfer, you may be bothered that you can't channel jump as fast as you used to. I appreciate that the speakers are located at the bottom of the unit. (When they're located on the sides, a TV looks disproportionately long and like there's dead space on the sides.) The simple black casing is ideal to my eye. After a week's use, I can understand why 1080i or p products might be desirable for some broadcasts on large screens, but, for the most part, I think this unit, at 50", competes admirably with its 720p technology, especially when you figure out that you can purchase one for under $[...]! I'm glad we didn't wait any longer to step up to a big-screen plasma. Now we just wait to see how it bears up under long-term usable.
