Breville Die Cast Espresso Machine - 800ESXL

Materials: The Espresso Machine's body, controls and tamping head are formed using the highest-grade aluminum and zinc. Unlike thinner pressed metals, die-cast construction moulds molten metals at intense temperatures. The result is the ultimate in durability and performance, and a more refined finish.

Head Elevation: With a full 4.5 inch clearance, this is the first machine designed to accommodate larger cups and travel mugs, making it ideal not just for Espresso, but for Espresso variations likeAmericano, Cappuccino and Cafe Latte. The unobstructed view of the filter holder makes the loading process faster and easier.

Selector Dial: The fully die-cast selector dial enables simple switching between Espresso, steam and hot water. When turned to the left, you can alternate between Hot Water and Steam using the illuminating solid steel buttons. The right position gives manual control of the Espresso-making process.

Pump: Prior to extraction, the unique 15 bar Triple-Prime pump automatically releases three bursts of hot water into the filter head, causing the ground coffee or Espresso pod to expand. This increases pressure, allowing the machine to extract more crema, giving the coffee a rich, smooth texture and taste.

Filters: Included are single(7g),double(14g) and pod filters. Each solid stainless steel filter incorporates Breville's unique dual-wall crema technology. Beneath the first wall's 333 evenly-distributed pores is a second wall with a single exit hole. This produces a back pressure inside the head which, together with the Triple-Prime pump, extracts more flavor and texture from the coffee than any other machine.

Steam: The stainless steel steam wand is mounted on a swivel ball for easy maneuverability. It produces continuous dry steam for barista-style milk and froth (the included enhancer allows you to create perfect froth without moving the jug). The wand also dispnses hot water on demand.

Temperature Control Steam: The thermoblock maintains the water at an ideal 204 degrees F during extraction. While steaming, it reaches temperatures of over 250 degrees F. So when steaming is completed, the unique Auto-Purge function releases a measured amount of steam to return the temperature to the optimal level.

Capacity: The large 1 liter drip tray slides out for easy cleaning and neatly conceals the built-in storage compartment at the rear of the unit. The 75 oz water tank sits on top of the storage area and produces 50 singles shots of Espresso before refilling.

The only thing a bit unusual is that you have to manually halt the machine at the level of espresso you would like. In any other machine I've used, from similar style to fully automatic, you select single or double shot and the machine will regulate for you. Otherwise, thus far, we love it.

The unit was not giving good steam out of the box, I thought I might have to return it, but decided to take the steam wand apart to see if it was clogged and it was! A piece of metal was preventing steam from coming through the hole properly. Once cleaned it works fine. Nice looking unit!!

My husband and I are very impressed by this product. We looked at a couple of the other machines out there and are so glad we chose this one. Our other major choice was the Starbucks Barista. You certainly pay for the brand name if you buy that one. The Breville machine is of much better quality, all stainless, and less expensive than the Barista[...]. The only negative, which actually isn't one for me, is that it is heavy and needs to be kept out. I have the counter space to keep it out, so I do not have to lift it every time it is used. I find that I use mine every day because it is out. No complaints yet with the clean up.

The way they constructed this "machine" is amazing. I love that after you froth some milk that it automatically self primes itself. This machine brews a killer espresso and makes one of the best machiato's I ever had ( and I had them all).

I'm very pleased with the appearance and performance of the Espresso Machine. I was suprised to find it was made in China since I reseached the company and found that they were based in Australia. The fit and finish of machine though is very nice, says made to the exacting standards of Breville and it appears so. The small hole form the filter cup plugged though so I drilled it larger to a diameter that would let the finest of grounds that made it through the other tiny holes to be flushed away with each use rather than eventually clog the very tiny hole. I have no reservations in recommending this espresso machine to others....just be prepared to enlarge the teensy weensy little hole on the bottom of the filter cup. You'll not be disappointed, especially at the cost compared to other machines. It's a beautiful machine for your kitchen or anywhere else you choose to place it and most importantly, it works very well.

I bought this for my husband for father's day thinking he would use it and I'd still go to Starbucks. I have't bought a latte since I put it on the kitchen counter. It's wonderful. Makes great espresso and it's very easy to use. Best purchase in a long time.
