Reviewing The Player, Not Blu-Ray 1.0

Pros:	Easy to operate, High Quality
Best Uses:	Impressing Friends

Having bought a floor model that came sans manual, I was nervous about set-up as I have a fairly complex system. Set-up and configuration for video and audio output was intuitive (I admittedly have a lot of experience setting up this stuff). Picture quality, using standard DVDs on my 72" DLP was markedly better than my mid-range Denon. Pixelation is largely gone (with Blu-Ray Discs, it is gone). Start up time from power-up to watching the movie is about 40 seconds or so. The unit doesn't seem to get hot with extended on time. The last star is not given because of cost; this is still an early adapter price.

Ive been waiting as long as anyone in the US for the launch of "the superior format". I had been lucky enough to have experienced Blu Ray in Tokyo in the fall of "04" both in Akihabara (electric city) and the Sony Building in Ginza. I have been anticipating this release badly for a long time. I am impressed with the BDP1000 showing BD material like T2 and demo discs, but I think the player provides only good upconversion for regular DVDs. I have a Denon DVD2910 that will smoke it in that category, granted the Denon cost almost as much for just a DVD player, so I guess it should. Overall, due to it being the first to the market with others pushing back arrival dates, Its better than that thing Toshiba puts out that takes a month to boot up.

i have a up converter sony dvd player hooked on my 1080p flat screen and the pic looks much better on that player. i took my blu ray player back because trust me its a waste of money it froze up fifth element looks better on standard dvd .blu ray =blu garbage
