By Wisconsin Fatts from Lake Geneva, Wisconsin on 05/6/2008.
Pros: Durable, Good Sound, Good Picture, Easy Controls, Portable, Lightweight
Describe Yourself: Practical
Cons: Short Battery Life

The only thing I didn't like was the fact you have to charge the battery for the amount of time it lasts. I wish it was a longer battery span than five hours. Other than that the product is great.

Sony truly is the BEST! Me and my dad bought this product not to long ago and have'nt had any problems yet. We use it mostly in the car and were concerned the sound was to low. We hooked it up to a thing we had that transmitted the sound from the player to the car sterioand it was AWESOME! Great sound! It definatly is an A+ product in my family!

Great Value
By Rick from Kansas City, MO on 04/21/2008.
Pros: adaptable to back of car
Describe Yourself: Frequent Traveler, Student
Best Uses: Travel
I purchased this in April for my son to take on our family vacation in July. He hasn't put it down in our house so I'm guessing it's durable as he is not particularly delicate with his things. It seems to be very user-friendly and a GREAT value for the money. I especially like the 180 degree rotation which allows a full recline of the screen to adapt to the back of a car's headrest while keeping the control buttons exposed. Sound could be slightly louder although if it was, I might be writing "sound could be slightly softer" :)

Cons: Bulky
Pros: Easy Controls, Good Sound, Durable, Good Picture, Long Battery Life
Describe Yourself: Practical, Frequent Traveler
Best Uses: Travel, airplane, In The Car
Read the reviews on this. The concerns for the glare screen are way overstated. We purchased for a trip to Florida. Used it extensively on the plane, as well as driving along the interstate during the day and at night. Kids loved the big screen, swivel capability, and how it can sit up or fold down to sit in their lap. The battery life was an added bonus, as we ran it continuously over almost 5 hours and it still didn't run out. Very happy with the purchase, almost need to buy another so the kids don't fight over it.
So far so good!
By kcurtis from belfast, ME on 04/9/2008.
Best Uses: At Home, Travel, In The Car
Pros: Portable, Good Sound, Good Picture, Easy Controls
Describe Yourself: Practical
Bought for an active 3 year old with lots of movies to watch. Saves when visiting in others' homes so not to have to use their equipment, etc. Used for about one month. So far so good. Only concern was one episode of player not shutting off or responding but discovered battery was also low, and haven't had it long enough to know whether this was an isolated incident.
Me and my kids love this.

This portable DVD player is great my kids love it. It has been wonderful. My kids have enjoyed it soo much. Has been wonderful for road trips. The only thing i don't like about it is that it is way to heavy for my kids to hold. It is pretty bulky.

This DVD Player is exactly what I needed for the airplane. The swivel display is useful, it has good battery life, and it works well. Best of all, it is a Sony and it was price competitive. I have never thrown out a Sony product in 20 years of using Sony gear.

By Portable DVD Evaluator from Chicago, IL on 01/13/2008.
Describe Yourself: Gearhead
Best Uses: In The Car, At Home
Pros: Lightweight, Good Picture, Long Battery Life, Portable
This is a decent DVD player. I just wish they would make it more clear that headphones were not included with this product, as it caught me "with my pants down" on Christmas day, and to get the full effect, I had to wait until stores opened the next day. Overall, it has a good picture, and good sound with decent headphones. Without headphones, the volume is a bit low.

Great portable DVD player
By Carrie from Sandy, Ut on 11/26/2007.
Describe Yourself: Frequent Traveler, Practical
Pros: Portable, Good Picture, Lightweight, Long Battery Life, Durable
Best Uses: Travel
We bought this DVD player for a long vacation to Virginia. We needed a long battery life for the plane rides and a light weight unit to pack into our carry on. This DVD player is perfect for travel. I love the swivel screen and the duel headphone jacks. The picture quality is amazing for such a tiny unit. We had a little difficulty hearing the movie on the plane, but we were right over the wing, which may have had something to do with it, but it still entertained my kids and was well worth the money spent. [...]. Like I said before, the battery life is amazing as is the picture quality and it seems pretty durable. I would definitely recommend this product for travelers!
I would buy this product again.

I purchased this DVD player as a video monitor for our church where I am the Music Director. It allows me and the choir to be at one end of the church with our organist at the other using the DVD player screen as a video monitor to follow my direction. It works beautifully!

By Grumpy from Atlanta, GA on 09/6/2007.
Describe Yourself: Frequent Traveler, Gearhead
Pros: Good Picture, Portable, Durable, Easy Controls
Cons: Short Battery Life
Best Uses: Travel, At Home, Office
Bought this unit for a plane ride. But have been playing around with it before the trip. It seems to fit the bill nicely. Nice picture. Sound out of the unit a little weak, but thru the headphones (much better), probably even better with a nice set of headphones. Battery life seems to be slightly less than advertised, but it has not been charged but twice.
A bargain and it actually plays dvd's.
By PatrynXX from Cedar Falls, IA on 08/9/2007.
Pros: Disk compatibility, Long Battery Life, Good Picture, Easy Controls, Portable, Durable
Best Uses: Glossy screen
Cons: Poor Sound
Describe Yourself: Student, Practical, Geek, Gearhead
I've had the worst sort of luck finding a decent player. Usually conventional wisdom is that cheap players aren't the best but they play. Not in my case. Insignia (unsafe, laser sometimes doesn't shut off), Coby (doesn't honor their warranty and laser shines from the vent and the battery caught fire), Toshiba (Refused to play most dvd's). So when I say this player is a Bargain! I mean it really is worth the [$]. After wasting [$]on the Coby, I'd say [$]more for something that'll last 900 times longer is worth it. Only two things I could find annoying. The sound isn't really that loud. (I might be able to tweak that using an amplifier. But there goes the portability) and two, I never liked glossy screens. When you have a light in a certain place you'll be seeing yourself looking back at you. [...] A glossy screen also attracts dust. It might protect the lcd screen, but just not a great positive thing. But I'll let it slide since I can play my movies now. The battery is really well located. It's not easy to accidentally remove. And it actually has a battery indicator. [...]
Sony 8" DVD Player needs better sound
By Kat from Loudon, Tn on 07/22/2007.
Pros: Easy Controls, Lightweight, Portable, Long Battery Life, Durable, Needs higher volume, Good Picture
Describe Yourself: Frequent Traveler
Cons: Poor Sound

The picture is good and it is easy to operate. For some movies, however, the sound will not go loud enough.
Great features for price!
By Michael from Kalamazoo, MI on 07/20/2007.
Best Uses: At Home, In The Car
Pros: Good Sound, Durable, Easy Controls, Good Picture, Portable
Describe Yourself: Practical
Cons: Short Battery Life, Heavier than expected
I bought (actually earned with AMEX points) two of these units a few weeks ago. I have a 3r old son and 4 year old daughter and we were taking our first big )greater then 2 hour) trip. The unit worked flawlessly, despite heavy traffic, construction, and rain. The only reason I didn't give it a 5 star rating was that the battery life, in a moving vehicle, was just over 2.5 hours. I did fully charge both units BEFORE ever using them, but it seems 3 hours is probably the limit. As for construction - these units seem very well made (albeit a bit heavy, though) - come with a host of options (remote with batteries, swivel screen, full complement of cables) and was a much better choice for the car then most of the dual screen automobilie specific units I researched. I look forward to many years of usage both in the car (and for me on the plane when I travel).
Excellent product!
By Mom of 2 boys from North Carolina on 07/15/2007.
Best Uses: Office, Travel, In The Car, At Home
Describe Yourself: Parent of toddlers
Pros: Portable, Easy Controls, Good Sound, Long Battery Life, Good Picture, Durable, Lightweight
This portable DVD player is extremely durable and child proof, yet easy to use and with a great picture. This is our fourth portable DVD player and it is the only one that has stood up to the abuse that a 2-year old and a 4-year old can dish out. I would recommend it to anyone needing a decent travel DVD player for young children.

Easy to use out of the box. Excellent battery life. On a recent trip, our plane was stuck on a tarmac for 2+ hours prior to the scheduled 4 hour flight, our 2 & 4 year olds were in desperate need of distraction and entertainment. Fortunately, the player lasted the promised six hours! Only down side was the the volume even at max was quite weak. Overall an excellent product.

Update to previous review on Sony 8" DVD
By RB from St. Louis, MO on 05/3/2007.
Best Uses: At Home, Office
Describe Yourself: Gearhead
Pros: Portable, Long Battery Life, Lightweight, Good Picture
I wanted to update my review on this dvd player. I had problems with the first unit [...]. As far as the player, so far it appears that the first one was just a fluke. This new unit plays perfectly. So far I have not found a dvd that it will not play and the picture is great. My only complaints are that the audio could use more volume and the otherwise excellent remote control does not have a button to control the volume. All in all I would now recommend this unit to a friend and I would definitely recommend [...] to anyone.

Great for the Kids!
By Huy from Grass Valley, CA on 03/21/2007.
Best Uses: Auto
Pros: Easy to Use, Long Battery Life, Durable, Compact
This is a great set up for my busy kids in booster seats without taking up leg/knee room, like most portable DVD players. I am able to hang the unit in its completely folded form flush behind the front headrests, using a [...]carrier/case. Therefore, it's very similar to a built-in headrest monitor. The player also resumes the playback scene whenever it is turned back on, while most others start all over. However, the screen mode always defaults back to the compact vs. the wide or fullscreen mode when it is turned off and on again. Therefore, it has to be reset everytime. Regardless, I have returned two other units and have purchased two of these Sony's because I am very impressed.

I am completely satisfied with my purchase of this player. After reading some of the reviews here I was apprehensive regarding the sound volume and the fact that there is no volume control on the remote, thus, was not surprised when I received it. You will not be able to watch this without headphones on a plane. However, the pro's for this player most definitely out-way the con's here. It produces a great picture, has great battery life, is relatively quite (drive spin) and has all the quality you'd expect from the Sony brand. This is not meant to be a home theater replacement.
Great Earphone Sound!
By Vicky Now from Northern CA on 02/6/2007.
Pros: Design, Good Value, Durable, High Quality
Cons: Expensive, Could really cost Less
Best Uses: Library video watcher, Work out help
I love that I can set it up near my walk master and distract myself, with non fiction DVD that I can choose chapters from, and pick up next time I get on, with new chapters. I use head phones and remote. The turning screen is important to me. (I have a small computer with that feature and I knew I loved it so I had to get this one with one too. It adds so much dimension to its function.) And I stay twice as long walking and lose weight and get exercise I can't get anywhere in cold or too hot weather.I learn Tai Chi, History, languages. Travel. You name it. Fun! Fun! I love that it is black and doesn't reflect onto the screen. I put it in a case that carries all accessories too, and it sets right up wherever I am. I turn it so the screen doesn't get any light or light colored item in the picture. It has good quality picture. I love the sound for CD playing, with earphones. It sounds rather small and normal without the phones in my ears. But I always use them with it anyway. I also think a good bag is a must. It helps me use it as a CD player for my meditation or music tapes. I love the sound better than my ordinary CD player. Not an Ipod or MP3 player user yet. It stores discs in the bag and makes it real convenient. I paid about $[...] at radio shack for a really good bag. I paid about $[...] online for this player. It is expensive. But the good quality and all the extra helps, like it will play homemade CDs and picture discs, are good. I had been looking in the range of [...]$. But this one had all that I wanted for LONG TIME use, and it was good quality. I am very happy with it, drag it around with me everywhere in the house and to the Library. I like to watch 20-40 minute clips from non fiction DVDs, and check the viability of some movies, or just sit and watch a video there. It is quiet, and pleasant. It gives me freedom, that I need, and comfort. I didn't yet use it for the car, because I am older and don't have young kids, but who knows what I will do someday. Maybe go to the shore and sit by the water, using the long battery (5 hours) and eat a lunch, keeping out ot the wind, and take turns looking at the water and the DVD or listen to CDs. It is realy my favorite portable CD player. I could set it up on the back of the front seat and sit behind it and enjoy the beauty. I love it!
Great product
By pieter from Washington on 02/2/2007.
Best Uses: air travel and home sick
Pros: Good Value
This is a great product. I received it promptly and then had a memeber of the household sick. They immediately used it to sit in bed and watch two movies without an issue. It is small and lite weight to use on a plane as well and the screen can turn basically any direction.
Sony DVD player is AWESOME!!!!
By Rooster from Wisconsin on 02/2/2007.
Pros: High Quality, Good Value, Durable
Best Uses: Planes
Cons: Speaker not very loud
The picture quality is great and so is the swivel option. It's very durable also. It is lacking volume but if you wear headphones it works well even on a noisy plane. Battery lasts six hours which really came in handy on my 8 1/2 hour flight to Maui!! Great product.

Worked great for two weeks
By Mark from Madison, WI on 01/15/2007.
Cons: Bad design
Pros: Great picture
I bought this product to use on trips for my 2 year old son. Although the swivel screen is nice it loses much of its appeal because you are not to use it vertically per the manual. Well the manual was right I had it vertical on a headrest mount and the player quit working in less then a month.
Very Nice
By DJ from Brooklyn, NY on 01/3/2007.
Cons: Speaker volume
Pros: Swivel LCD panel
Best Uses: weekend gettaways
The DVP FX-810 is a pretty good value. I love the swivel LCD panel. Display is of resonable quality. However I found the speaker volume to be low even at it's highest setting.

By rhopar from Pittsburgh, PA on 12/26/2006.
Pros: High Quality, Good Value
Cons: No Case
This product is awesome! I was very impressed with the picture quality. I would not hesitate to purchase another one. The only downside is it did not include a case - so you have to purchase that separate.
Sony Portable DVD
By ConSumi from San Jose, CA on 12/3/2006.
Pros: Durable, Good Value, High Quality
Cons: Need more volume
Best Uses: Travel with kids
Great product! 5 star means it's perfect-- it's not quite perfect because there could be more volume (especially for plane rides), but otherwise, it is great in every way!
Another Quality Sony product.
By zinger80 from Mobile, AL on 12/3/2006.
Pros: High Quality, Durable, Good Value
This product met and exceeded my expectations with its quality. I like the quality of the picture the best.
Sony is expensive
By BVN from Allentown on 11/27/2006.
Pros: brand name
Cons: Expensive
Brought this some someone who wanted a Sony Product. There are many competitive products at a lower price and they work the same. Sony is about 20% costly then other products. I personally used this for only couple of hours so cannot commen mucht. One thing I found impressive is the battery life, this has 6 hrs while many others have no more than 4 hrs.
Great Value
By Atlanta Bob from Atlanta, GA on 11/23/2006.

By abt from Union, KY on 11/6/2006.
Best Uses: Carry stuff
Pros: High Quality, Stylish
Cons: None so far
It has a relatively much clear display than any other portable players at an electric store. It would be better if it comes with a carry case to use in a car.

Nice but needs emprovement
By spend money from Detroit MI on 09/30/2006.
Best Uses: At Home, Office
Pros: Durable, Long Battery Life, Portable
Cons: Picture nice could be bet
Picture quality could be better does not have a good viewing from all sides, screen turns into a negative type picture. Sound quality fine for home or office use only, beyond that sound quality poor as for most portable DVD players. however, Stil a solid unit, probly one of the best bilt units on the market, screen protection nice even with glare problem. Dark seens may be hard to see. P.S. Sony please make one with Blue Ray tec. and rubber coat the case everything else is perfect.

This DVD player is all I had hoped it would be. The sound was a little low, but might be the headphones I used. I didn't have time prior to my trip to purchase really good ones.

Great Product/Value For Price
By Mommy Traveler from Texas on 08/2/2006.
Pros: Lightweight, Good Picture, Portable, Durable, Long Battery Life
Best Uses: Travel
Cons: Volume not very loud
We love this for long plane rides with our one-year-old. I did a lot of research on portable DVD player, and this one was the highest quality for the price. Unlike the cheaper brands this one has a long battery life, and great picture. The only thing I don't like is the volume is not verry loud. The sound quality is still good.
Best DVD player for the money
By Pete from Olympia, WA on 08/1/2006.
Pros: Portable, The sound is phenomenal w, Easy Controls, Lightweight, Long Battery Life, Good Picture, Durable
Best Uses: Travel, At Home, In The Car
All-around great DVD player. Made better with digital earphones, especially when there is much background noise such as on an airplane.
Good quality, easy to use
By Jaycee from New York, NY on 08/1/2006.
Pros: Long Battery Life, Durable, Good Picture, Portable, Lightweight
Cons: Small control buttons, Low volume
Best Uses: Travel, At Home
Though the price was a bit higher than other portable DVD players on the market, you get what you pay for (quality product from SONY). And the long battery life is definitely worth the few extra dollars. The only real "con": since I ordered online, I didn't realize that the player has a "bright" screen, which shows lots of glare. And controls are somewhat small for adult hands. Other than that, the player is extremely simple to use right out of the box.
Problem with first one but LOVE IT!
By lauralesack from new jersey on 07/24/2006.
Cons: Bulky
Pros: Easy Controls, Good Sound, Long Battery Life, Portable, Good Picture, Durable
Best Uses: In The Car, Travel
Purchased this item after extensive research about portable dvd players. I trusted the Sony name and loved the fact that they were the only brand to make a portable dvd player with a HARD screen. This makes it less likely to break and have pixels fail. [...] have been thrilled with the way it works. Only reason I gave it four stars instead of five is because it is heavy and doesn't work very well in fitting into those holder they have for the back of the seats for cars. But it folds into a tablet which works just fine for my 2 year old!
Excellent DVD player for the money
By Bad Dad from Virginia Beach, VA on 07/20/2006.
Pros: Portable, Lightweight, Long Battery Life, Great remote, Durable, Good Picture, Good Sound
Cons: Small unit controls
Best Uses: Travel, At Home, In The Car
We had to replace two Audiovox DVD players that the kids trashed (within 6 months). For the cost per unit, the Sony DVD players have performed magnificently. I am very impressed with the quality of the players, as most people would expect from Sony. The big test was our recent plane trip to San Diego, the battery life was way above average at 5+ hours per charge. While on vacation we set one of the players up on the kitchen table and the four cousins easily watched cartoons on the 8in screen and the volume from the small internal speakers was just adequate for the audience. The power cords for the car are a bit short so I recommend getting a cord extender. I have to use an extension cord and a splitter so I only take up one power plug in the car for both players. The players have not skipped under any driving or playing conditions. My kids are rough on toys, these players already have scratches, one has been dropped and they are still working fine. These seem to be durable products. The batteries are thin and fit flush and snuggly under the base of the units, unlike the bulky Audiovox batteries. The players can support two headphones with minimal loss of volume. The remote is excellent and the best way to control the player. One small problem that I have with the Sony DVD players is that they have really small button controls on the unit. They are difficult to see in low light situations. The Sony players do not come with headphones and I highly recommend "noise canceling" headphones for any airplane trip. Having owned two different brand DVD players in the past, I would recommend the Sony DVD players to anyone.
