Feature Details:

  • Transducer principle
Two transducer principles have become established for the conversion of electric energy into mechanical energy: electrodynamic and electrostatic transducers, whereby the latter is only to be found in audiophile systems, due to their relatively high manufacturing costs. Electrodynamic transducers basically consist of a ring-shaped permanent magnet and an oscillation coil, which is fixed to the receiver diaphragm. When an audio-frequency alternating current is passed through the oscillation coil, it is caused to vibrate in accordance with the audio-frequency alternating current, thus causing the diaphragm to vibrate in the same way.
  • Frequency response
The frequency response of a microphone is given within the limits defined by the manufacturer. In studio condenser microphones it is generally within the range of between 20 Hz and 20 kHz.
  • Impedance
Impedance expresses the AC resistance of a microphone or a set of headphones. It is dependent on frequency and is given at 1 kHz as the so-called nominal impedance. Impedance is measured in ohms. In recent years, an industrial standard has developed, setting the impedance of headphones at 50 or 600 ohms. Sennheiser headphones are manufactured according to this standard, thus practically ruling out connection problems. With microphones, the input impedance of the following microphone amplifier should have at least three times the value of the nominal impedance, in order to prevent it from unnecessarily attenuating the microphone signal.
  • Ear coupling
A distinction is made between headphones which are worn on the external ear (supra-aural) and those which surround the ear (circumaural). Open headphones have foam ear pads that rest on the ears or ring pads that surround the ears. Closed headphones, on the other hand, nearly always have circumaural ear pads.

SOLID and STURDY.
By kiers from NYC on 12/8/2008.
Best Uses: Home Audio
Pros: Lightweight, Rich Sound, Comfortable
Primary use: Personal
Cons: Too Much Ambient Noise, Not enough volume
Solid headphones. Ergonomic, lets your ear breathe. But sound is less than I expected at a given volume. You need good amp then they pump.

Good but flawed
By Lady runner from New Orleans, LA on 07/21/2008.
Describe Yourself: Audiophile
Cons: Flimsy Construction
Pros: Lightweight, Comfortable, Rich Sound
Primary use: Personal
Best Uses: Running
This is my 2nd pair. The 1st deterioriated within 2 years, the rubber sheathing tearing away, leaving the wires bare and unuseable. But I have not found another headphone that wraps around the ear and stays on while I am running or walking.

By Davy from Thibodaux, Louisiana on 04/21/2008.
Describe Yourself: Athlete
Pros: Lightweight
Best Uses: None
Primary use: Personal
Cons: wouldn't stay in my ears
I could not get them to stay in my ears during exercise, which was the primary reason that I purchased the product.
good sound but watch the fit
By Sean B. from Los Altos, CA on 01/4/2008.
Describe Yourself: Audiophile
Pros: Durable, Rich Sound, Lightweight
Cons: Fits
Best Uses: Gym, Running
Primary use: Personal
Sound is very good but the weak link is the fit in your ear. If the fit is bad then the perceived quality drops, especially for the low frequencies.
Great Buy
By Eric in NJ from Woodbridge, NJ on 06/25/2007.
Describe Yourself: Frequent Traveler
Pros: Lightweight, Highly Compatible, Comfortable
Best Uses: Running, Travel, Portable Devices
Other than initially being out of stock, these headphones are awesome - different covers and water resistant design make it perfect for working out or commuting on the train.
almost perfect
By Blanka the biker from New York, NY on 05/3/2007.
Pros: Durable, Lightweight, Rich Sound
Cons: Falling of my ears
Best Uses: With My Computer
I like design, comfort ... and all the above, except - I was planing to use it for running .. and I am able to use it just for biking ... the earphones does not stay on my ears and fall all the time. I have to wear hat etc ... I would recommend them anyway because my problem can be my small ears ... not this product .
Stay on Ears, but not in them ...
By S. from Tampa, FL on 04/26/2007.
Pros: Lightweight, Comfortable
Best Uses: Running
Cons: Too Much Ambient Noise, Poor Sound
Use these while working out and they do the job for staying on my ears. Only down fall is that they shift away from the ear and you lose the sound quality. Still a good pair of ear phones if using them for general use, and for running, just can be a pain to reset them to get the sound you may be looking for. Overall, they are much better than in the ear headphones or over the ear headphones for running with (over the ear look kind of Dorky too).
I would buy the product again
By Tam from Tallahassee, Florida on 04/17/2007.
Pros: Durable, Lightweight, Rich Sound, Highly Compatible, Comfortable
Best Uses: Music, Travel, Portable Devices, Running
These headphones stay secure when I run and I especially like that they are sweat resistant
Does the job
By Alice from Cincinnati, OH on 03/28/2007.
Pros: Durable, Lightweight, Comfortable
Cons: Earphones not snug enough
Best Uses: Running
Secure over your ears, lightweight. Howevere, does not fit snugly inside the canals for improved sound.
Great product
By Hobie from Ohio on 03/12/2007.
Pros: Comfortable, Lightweight, Rich Sound, Durable, Stay in ears well, great sound, Highly Compatible
Best Uses: Running, Portable Devices, Travel
Very comfortable, great sound. Great value
For Runners
By TMH, marathoner from Cincy, OH on 02/20/2007.
Pros: Durable, Lightweight
Best Uses: Running
The sound and fit of these head phones are good; although the length of the cord is bothersome at times. I run for long distances and have not experienced discomfort during my runs. Overall, a good product that will satisfy a runner, but with a little room for improvement.
It is a great piece of equipment to have
By Andrew the water man from Pinehurst, NC on 02/19/2007.
Pros: Highly Compatible, Durable, Comfortable, Lightweight, Rich Sound
Best Uses: swimming, near water
I love this. If you like to swim go ahead and grab this. Set up a nice playlist or two and enjoy your swim. Also, use it around water. Hanging out by the pool.
Excellent value
By Tony from Augusta, GA on 01/27/2007.
Cons: Could have better fit
Pros: Lightweight, Comfortable, Durable, Highly Compatible
Best Uses: Music, Running
I use these for running w/ my Ipod. Well built. Sound is good. They don't fit in my ear as well as the original wraparounds that came with my RIO sport, but they look like they'll last much longer. I like the color!
Great for running!
By Goldy from Boise, ID on 11/16/2006.
Pros: Comfortable, Lightweight
Best Uses: Portable Devices, Running, Music
Great for running. If it had a volume knob on it that would rock! The people who complained about the neon green being a problem are dumb--who cares what color your headphones are??
Awesome sound! Great fit!
By Ryan from Springfield, MO on 09/27/2006.
Pros: Comfortable, Highly Compatible, Lightweight, Rich Sound
Best Uses: Running, Travel
Can't beat the sound quality. Toss the old earbuds and upgrade to these over the ear style. They've never even hinted at falling out on any of my runs and I get crisp, clear sound without having to turn up the volume and chance damaging my hearing.
They work for small ears!
By Roca from Belmont, CA on 09/11/2006.
Pros: Comfortable, Size adjustable, Lightweight
Best Uses: Portable Devices, Work out, Running
I have small ear holes. More than you wanted to know, but most ear buds hurt because they are too big. I'm a grown woman using an eliptical at the gym and music is the only thing that keeps me on the machine. These work really well.
Best Sport Headphones on the Market!
By Beach Bum from Redondo Beach, CA on 08/29/2006.
Cons: Color, Average Sound Quality
Pros: Comfortable, Highly Compatible, Durable, Lightweight
Best Uses: Running, Working out
I tried about every sport headphone design on the market from Sony and Panasonic to the boot leg brands you can find at Fry's Electronics. Sony may have the best sound quality but they really need to work on comfort. Panasonic is pretty good on both, but they don't last very long. The Sennheiser OMX70 is by far the best on the market today as far as durability and comfort. The sound quality could be better but when you're running or lifting it's acceptable. The headphones would also be better if the wires were asymmetrical like most newer designs. However, the clip on the wire does help keep the wires from bouncing all over the place. Unfortunately, one thing this headphone does lack is color selection. The only color available is the 80s neon green, shown in the picture. The main reason I got these heaphones was due to the fact that every review so far emphasized how durable and comfortable they are. So far so good.

Sennheiser OMX70 Sport
By SoulCarver from Buffalo, NY on 07/17/2006.
Pros: Highly Compatible, Comfortable, Lightweight, Durable, Rich Sound
Best Uses: Portable Devices, Music, Running
I read a bad review about this product AFTER I had already purchased on-line. The user said they sounded worse than factory earbuds. The sound is crystal clear from hi to low. You need to spend a moment adjusting them to fit your ear properly. THEN, they sound outstanding and they never budge, even while running flat-out. They could maybe be a little "bass-ier" but the design and construction was worth the money. Plus they look like something different (i.e. better) than the ipod whites.
Good fit, Good sound, great for the gym.
By LG from Chicago, IL on 07/11/2006.
Pros: Lightweight, Comfortable, Durable
Best Uses: Running, Portable Devices
I have gone through several headphones which sole purpose was to wear while working out, and these were the most expensive yet.....and after 3 weeks, well worth the extra $$$.
