Features:

Patented stainless steel blade tines are positioned on four different planes for fast, thorough and consistent blending. Blade assembly is built into pitcher for easy handling and cleanup.
Commercial-quality, steel-reinforced coupler with 12 interlocking teeth provides direct transfer of motor power to the blade.

Best ice crusher

We bought this for our second home, after using one in our primary residence for over a year. There is no other blender that can make smoothies as nice as ones produced with this machine. Nice big pitcher, easy clean-up and a solid, stable base.

I used it almost daily for smoothies, and cutting smaller amounts of vegetable. I use a food processor for larger amounts. It easy to clean.

no slow speed

i tried to blend small amount of beans and rice and because it doesnt have a slow start it shot most of it up to the top of the pitcher so i had to scrape everything back down, blend again, scrape everything down...I love it for making sorbet, blends the fruit very fine compared to the last blender i had....so i guess this blender is fine if you have alot of stuff in it....the pitcher is much easier to clean and lighter then the last one i had...however the base is very heavy.

Best Ever Blender

I was looking at a Vita Mix, but didn't want to spend the $$$$$, especially since I have a perfectly good food processor (that I wasn't using very much). My old (1980's) Hamilton Beach blender was only operating with one speed, so I did plenty of research on blenders and chose the KitchenAid. I also bought a new cookbook on maximizing the food processor, so now I am using both appliances daily and loving the results.

This is the best blender I have owned. It makes smoothies literally in seconds, I start with crush than switch to liquify and I get the best texture (no pieces of ice at all) I searched for months and decided on the KitchenAid, I'm sooo happy I did! I have been using it almost everyday for more than 3 weeks now and its performance is awesome. Cleaning is easy, after each use I fill it with warm water and a drop of dish soap put it back on the base and press the stir button, it really does it job and cleans it! after that just clean the outside and rinse it. Let me not forget... ABT IS GREAT! I never heard of the place before but read fantastic reviews about them so I went ahead and made my purchase..sooo glad I did! [...]

The blender works great, but it could be stronger. I mainly use the blender to make smoothies and it has some trouble crushing the ice. The blade inside the blender does not look like it would last long.

Does not do a very good job crushing ice

I mostly use it to make protein shakes. It does a very good job but sometimes either ice or frozen fruit stays whole. It gets stock and is not able to crush the ice or frozen fruit.

The KSB580 has a better base quality (more commercial) then the KSB560 found at local stores. Abt's price for the 580 was still cheaper then the local store 560. Great blender. I use it mostly for crushing ice and making smoothies. It's variable ice crush setting is amazing. No more ice clumps! It's also not too loud. Great product, highly recommended.

This is an outstanding blender. We use it primarily to make smoothies with frozen fruit and ice, and it does a great job blending this mixture. The plastic pitcher is actually superior to glass - just as strong and not nearly as likely to break if you drop it on a tile floor.

Good So Far But Wait

This blender seems great so far with one exception. The way it starts slow then builds up speed works well to draw ingredients together, but it splatters at first if the top isn't mashed on. So if you're mixing in ingredients or working with hot foods, HOLD THE LID ON. Otherwise, it seems powerful and it's definitely fast. Hopefully it won't burn out the way our other blenders have.
