There aren't many 2-line expandable cordless phones to choose from, but so far this one is working out rather well for me. It was simple to connect and routine operation was fairly easy to learn. But even with instruction booklet in hand, programming the memory and other features was a challenge. It's got far more features than I'll ever use, but it's a big improvement over my old phone.

My two old 900MHz DSS cordless phones were the best ever for range, voice quality and security. I waited years for a good two-line replacement. 2.4GHz technology phones were a case of "newer is not better", with crummy sound quality and interference to wireless networks. The first 5.8 GHz phones got poor reviews, but this is Uniden's 2nd generation 5.8GHz system, and is a mature, flexible and high-performing product line. Their various 5.8GHz products interoperate (you can use the new-version extra handset with their previous generation phones). Despite reports of poor range for early 5.8 models, these have excellent range -- I was able to talk about a half block away from my house, outdoors. Sound quality is also great, size is considerably smaller than older models, and the NiMH battery packs last about a week in standby. The feature set is very broad, but easy to understand, configure, and use. I'd highly recommend this phone (either the two line model like mine, or any of the similar Uniden one-line 5.8GHz digital models), especially for home office or VOIP use.

I like the larger screen and orange hue very helpful. The high-tech feature also easy to understand by this low-tech person.

We liked this phone system a lot. It's a very nice system. But we had to return it because we could not use it in a home office. This 5.8 frequency phone system conflicted with our computer's 5.8 frequency cordless mouse and keyboard. For that reason we exchanged it for one of the Panasonic's-because it offers frequency switching--and now we have no conflict.
If they offered frequency switching-- the system would be a wonderful buy and we would have kept it.
The signal on this or any 5.8 does not carry far outside.
