SONY IS USUALLY A GOOD CHOICE I BOUGHT THIS FOR A FRIEND TO USE IN HIS OUTSIDE GARAGE, HIS WAS STILL WORKING WHEN I GOT ONE TO USE IN OUTSIDE BUILDING IT LASTED ABOUT LONG AS HIS DID. BOTH DO NOTHING WHEN YOU TRY TO TURN THEM ON. THIS RADIO IS A LOSER.

We use it on the beach under the tent. The family loves it.

nice radio for out on our patio. we leave it out in the rain and it does fine, although I wouldn't suggest this as an intended use.

We are going to Israel and plan to use it outdoors. We will see how it performs in a larger outdoor situation.

I was looking for a workshop radio that would be durable for weekend use. This is great with seals on it all for dust exposure, etc.

It is used outside. It seems to be a heavy duty product. Time will tell how well it holds up.

Radio is great all around!! I use it in my pool area. It has a loud powerful sound that fills the space nicely. This radio is built to last.

When I ordered this radio, I had to wait over a month, because it was backordered on every website I checked. Well believe me, it was well worth the wait. It is durable, nothing flimsy here! We use it when we are sitting out on our patio and when we take road trips. It has a great sound and is actually pretty lightweight considering the size. We absolutely love it!

Absolutely GREAT product. Well Built, strong, and rugged. I bought this unit to use outdoors while RVing, 4x4ing, boating and it suppasses my wishes all around. Alittle larger the most "boom boxes" but for everyhting id does its perfect. To me this is a must own.

This product look good. The housing is too big. FM reception is poor. The antenna is fragile not suitable for work site or outdoor use Sony quality, excellent. Sony is the best for audio quality. Sony did not use the durable material such as rubber that suppose to use for work site or out door kinda design. The worst for this product is zero shock resistance for its class. It suppose to be same kind as those car stereo. It skips with a little tap. That is not the kind of boombox you would use for work site for. If you're looking for a boombox for work or outdoor, this is not the one. It's ok for stationary use.

Very happy with the product overall. The FM reception is not the greatest but I attribute that to the area where we live as I have troulbe on other home, portable & auto units.

The CD player has zero shock protection. The slightest bump causes it to skip tracks or stop playing. Horrible design for something that is supposed to be heavy duty

We use this in a library setting for children's storytimes. We needed a machine that would not skip when playing CD's. This one has proven to be durable and reliable with no skipping!

I have not really owned it long enough to see how durable it is,but the fit and finish is nice and it has that sturdy(Sony) feel to it and very easy to operate with good sized buttons and not a bunch of frilly options I dont need.At first I didnt think it was that great of sounding boombox,then i put Tom petty "wilflowers" disc in and the sound just flowed out.So play some music that has various musical instruments in the song and you will see what I mean.You can hear each different instrument crystal clear.Some have said its not that loud but in reality it is very loud considering that you dont get the normal static distortion that is so typical when you turn up the volume past halfway with the junk boxes of today,This box sounds great at max volume.I bought it since the reviews on every site i reaseached it on gave it high ratings.I was really hoping it would have been a little smaller so i could take it on my 3 day camping trip down the WI river,but it sounds so good and is water resistant that i am going to take it anyway although it is not real compact.It sounds great in my bedroom and takes up no more space than a [...] shelf system.I agree with others that the ac cord is a bit odd but perfectly fine for inside use when plugged into the wall.If you plan on taking this camping,i can not emphasize enough to get a auxillary "line in" cord and run your mp3 player/ipod thru it.It will run much longer on batteries this way than playing discs.Also i recomend getting some 10000mah rechargeable batteries.I tested it with my mp3 player plugged in and it ran straight for 2 days and 9hrs on volume level 7.Definately a best buy in this world of static junk boomboxes.....

Use it outside, it's sturdy and feel safe from the elements. Good sound. Play CD or listen to radio in a 'rough' environment, this set is ideal.

Purchased this for my husband ... he really liked it. Sound quality is amazing outside for yard work/construction. Really pleased. While it was on back-order, communication from ABT was great. Packaged great - no complaints.

I bought this to use in my garage when I'm working on cars etc.. I like this model because it is dustproof, and can stand up to a dusty environment. I also wanted a boom box with a AUX IN for my iPod. The sound is decent for a boom box and easily fills the two car garage and then some. It is rather large. I put up a shelf to hold it.

This is the second one I have purchased, the first has been outside for two years in my barn.

I bought this radio to use on construction sites. I had bought several cheapo radios on [...]that did not survive a week on the job and did not have the power I needed. Radio sounds good, looks good, simple to operate. A bit too big and heavy for my wife to carry around.

After much research, I find this machine put together like a tank. All comparments are sealed. No dust penatration. Larger than it looks which, to me, is a plus. The sound is absolutly mind boggling. A real bang for the buck. And a sony to boot. Best portable made and I've had a lot of them. Played Chris Botti and thought he was in the room playing. WOW!

before i purchased this product, i read a review that stated there was cross-over between radio channel reception. i haven't found that to be the case at all, maybe the reviewer was trying to tune in a weak signal from two stations with close call numbers. this is a big, durable unit that's perfect for the job site, back yard, or camping. Sony has made a similar cd/radio for years, and this performs just great. it's not made for office use, (too large & loud for a typical cubicle) but can take a reasonable beating from the elements without worrying about exposure. as Sony states, it is not "water proof", but it will stand up to more abuse than other radios i've had out on the beach, which is why i bought one.

Excellent stereo. I started looking for something like this because I liked the Heavy Duty aspect of the Dewalt construction radio, except it didn't have half the features this baby does! CD, Ipod / MP3 connection, it's great!

My husband and I are outside most of the day doing gardening and other activities. We love to listen to our CD's and finally, we have a radio that has plenty of volume!

I bought this stereo with the intent of using it on the front of a utility ATV for some tunes while trail riding and it worked flawlessly for this purpose. Anyone who has trail ridden an ATV knows how rough it is/or can be, so that tells you how durable this product is. It lasted for 6 months on the front rack of my ATV through dirt, dust, mud and occasional showers. It has the line-in feature, which allows you to listen to your IPOD or mp3 player through the stereo. The antenna got broke off by a passing tree limb, and it still has great FM reception with no antenna! The only reason I took it off my ATV is because I built a fully waterproof system with marine speakers, but it now resides on my back porch, in the elements, and still works great. Some say it is heavy, but how far are actually gonna carry it? This stereo provides amazing deep, rich sound and durability that is un-matched. I would highly recommend this to anyone that is looking for "heavy-duty" stereo.

Use it in steam room. replaces an older Sony model that was a work horse and half the size. The new one ios definitely water proof and better sound, but huge and heavy.

I was needing a cd player I could use outdoors, that is durable. This one has a snap latch on the cd player so you don't have to worry about dirt and sand getting into your player and ruining it.

This product is used near water every day and has proven to be exactly what we were looking for. The water resistant feature is the best feature to us. Being a Sony product just encouraged the purchase quicker. It's a little heavy but the sound quality is great and seems to very durable. I would definitely recommend this product to others looking for a water resistant feature. We will likely purchase more soon.

I purchased the Sony heavy duty boombox for my brother as a 2008 Christmas present. He wanted a durable boombox for the tough work environment of his airplane hangar, which is where he sand blasts and paints airplanes for restoration projects. Having a good sounding boombox that can handle that tough environment was mandatory. This was the ticket. So far he is very happy with his Sony of his owny.

It was perfect, I got the radio for my boyfriend for christmas. He loved it, he said it sounded good and very light weight. It was very useful that you could hook your MP3 player up to it and had a cd player. The buttons are nicely done so that no dirt or any dust can affect them from the job sites my boyfriend works on. My water aerobics instructors love this product so far. Being at a pool, we have trouble with products rusting or just stop working. This is doing great so far.

I bought this so my husband could listen to sporting events while he is working outside. He seems to love it. I just hope it can get all the stations clearly that his old boombox did not.

Solid, well built, durable, it will take outside abuse,all the features I need. Sounds great. It is quite big and a bit heavy, but I feel it has to be that way to be as durable as it is.

This radio is used at mobile blood collection donation sites for background music. We wanted a heavy duty radio but didn't want the construction site look. This radio fits our needs very well.

I purchased the product for the heavy-duty aspect. I am extremely disappointed in the FM reception. I thought SONY would have better FM reception. Other than that aspect the unit is not bad.

This is the 2nd one I purchased, last year I brought one for my younger son and it works so well I brought one for my older son. Their both hard on this boombox, have left it out in the rain and it with stands all their abuse. A+++++, have the 1st one for a year and 1/2 now and works beautiful, like the day I brought it.

Unit is very large but sounds great. FM reception is very sensitive to interference. Antenna is flimsy and small and not very effective. Much preferred my older Sony Sports unit, which eventually gave out.

This was a Father's Day gift for my husband.........and he LOVES it! He said that was the best gift next to our children.

Thought the speakers were crackling in the first use. It was actually the radio not getting perfect reception (I think) which caused the speakers to sound as if one of them were blown already. I'm going to use it alot in the next few weeks to be sure that I don't need to send the unit back.

I had a Sony radio in my workshop prior to purchasing this one. The radio I was using was one I used on my bass boat, and was battery operated. The sound was fantastic, but I had to replace batteries every 2 weeks or so due to the long playing time. Since the first Sony worked so well, and my Walkman worked so well, I figured stay with a winner. I purchased this radio because it is air tight, acoustically superior to others, and tough enough to last in my workshop.[...]

I work in a very noisy and dusty plastics factory and I needed a boombox that I could hear. This is it. I love how it sounds. I also like the fact that it is dust and water resistant.

Perfect for use on a porch. The unit could be slightly more compact, but this is more than offset buy it's quality, durable construction, excellent sound quality, ease of use, non-cluttered buttons, and appealing appearance. In a world of disapointing products this unit stands out as a winner.

good solided product

I work in an airgun factory where there is plenty of noise,oil,grease & sawdust to go around. This box rocks! Plenty of volume, awesome bass & dustproof CD cover. My boss even likes it! Co-worker already bought one after checking out mine.

We bought this product because we needed a way to play mp3 CDs in the car. It is very large, very sporty, and so heavy that it plays CDs GREAT as it sits in the back seat. It doesn't bounce around, and neither does the music. We then bring it in and use it in the house. We LOVE it.

Although I haven't used it on the jobsite yet, I can tell this unit is built to last. Construction looks solid, and besides that... It's a Sony. I have been using it around the home and garden, and it sounds very good. My past two jobsite radios have been Milwaukee. I always thought it was the best possible sound you could get from a radio. Now that I've listened to the Sony, I think it sounds at least equal to, if not better than the Milwaukee (Rockford Fosgate). CD player is killer, and something not available on similar boomboxes.

Radio/CD has great sound for portable. unit is large but heavy duty and quite user friendly. I was unable to secure a 12 volt lighter adapter which would make this unit more versetle

The Sony heavy duty (construction) boom box is a quality product. It is everything I expected. The sound quality is awesome. It has all of the features I was looking for in a boom box. I bought it for using in my garage, but will take it camping and on vacations to the beach.

We purchase 5 of the units for a promotional event where I work. We needed a boombox that played MP3's and was loud enough to draw attention. This unit is a perfect fit and priced at a value. So if you need a durable MP3 player this is the unit for you..

Nice boombox with great sound. Built rugged for outside/work environments. Only negative so far is the antenna is a little flimsy and needs to be stronger. Would have given five stars if it had a stronger radio antenna.

We bought this radio for our daughter who is a Phys Ed teacher and uses the cd player for some of her classes. She's had other boomboxes in the past that haven't held up- but this one surely looks like it's up to the task- and the sound quality and volume control are great!
