  Sony improved on the great benefits of the BRAVIA Engine™ by adding a picture quality enhancement circuit called Digital Reality Creation Multi-function v2.5. DRC-MFv2.5 now has the added ability to process interlace and progressive video signals and because it has twice the processing power of previous DRC-MF circuits, it can do its processing and output them to 1080p. (1080p signals are not processed through this DRC-MFv2.5.) Add to this the crisp details, outstanding contrast, eye popping colors, and dramatically reduced digital artifacts that DRC-MF circuitry is known for. And the best part of all is that DRC-MFv2.5 is user adjustable according to the video source. • Live Color Creation System featuring WCG-CCFL backlight technology
  Sony not only pushes resolution to the limits but also brings color reproduction to new heights. Live Color Creation achieves more precise and wider color reproduction using a combination of advanced chroma signal processing algorithms along with our WCG-CCFL (Wide Color Gamut Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp). The results have to seen to be believed. Clearer blues, more natural and broader range of greens...vibrant colors throughout any scene.
  
• High Contrast Ratio
  Sony uses a dynamic backlighting system called ACE (Advanced Contrast Enhancement) on BRAVIA XBR-Series TVs. ACE automatically senses the APL (Average Picture Level) of the video signal and adjusts the intensity of the backlight for improved contrast. VESA test and measurement methods are applied yielding a contrast ratio of used 7000:1. This number represents the widest possible ratio between black and white contrast levels. Sony also measures their BRAVIA televisions with a more stringent method that measures the amount of black and white levels that can appear on the screen at the same time. This method yields a more real world measurement of 1300:1

Just checking in again since I received the HD-DVR. Picture is stunning. Even the old DVDs with an upscaling player looks great. The non-HD directv channels are more than adequate.

I haven't seen ANY TV with a picture that even comes close to the quality of the pciture on this set. I use the roof antenna on my Condo building and the picture is clearer than a photograph. Even gets additional digital channels that I never got on my regular TV. I truly don't know how ANY other TV can sell if the buyer compares it to this Set, NOTHING comes close, NOTHING, and I'm very serious.

This is an awesome HD Television. It is living up to all my expectations. In retrospect, I should have gone with the 40XBR2 and the Black Velvet trim instead of the Piano Gloss Black of the 40XBR3. The location of this set is in my sunroom, and I get glare from the gloss finish.

Easy To Set Up, Attractive Design

Great picture quality...can't wait to see it hooked up to HD. Currently using my old Sony T60 Directv Tivo box (through a cable modulator) and I can't find anything bad to say. A new Directv HD DVR is on the way.

Though this size isn't as popular compared to the 46", it's still a big enough screen and perfect for standard 5-10 feet viewing distance. The piano black bezel and the transparent glass offers a remarkable stark combination that makes this TV truly among the best ever designed from an aesthetic standpoint to the point where I actually turn on my lamp at night so I can still see the TV's glass and bezel, not just the picture! From a picture quality standpoint, it's very well done. For HD, it's great and I can really see the advantage of blu-ray over regular DVD judging from the few blu-ray trailers I've already seen thus far on the TV. For SD (Standard definition), it's not perfect but it's pretty ok in my book. This TV is somewhat difficult to handle. You can't handle it by the floating glass so you only have two places where you can really handle it (bottom left and right corners on the back). The settings are plenty, and you can customize quite a bit, from the backlight, to the white correction levels. The speakers are also good, and the TruSurround XT option sounds much better than standard.

This is probably the best TV I could hope for at this moment in time...great picture quality, good depth in the speakers, and a myriad of controls. There is no clouding on my XBR3 that I've checked thus far (August 2006 build). I finished watching a couple of 1080P blu-ray trailers via HDMI and the quality is great! It's not as big a step up from standard SD as I thought it would be, but I had unrealistic expectations anyway. Overall, I am 100% happy with this TV and only gave it a con of hard to setup because it is BIG and definitely took me a while to get up the stairs! Not Sony's fault, so no reason to get anything less than 5 stars.
