I was disappointed in the capability for these speakers to handle very high volume / loud listening! The result is a rattling distortion of the complete sound profile. I did not expect this from from these speakers with such high recommendations! What I had heard at Best Buy comparatively does not match up!

What I do like are the highs and the midrange, these monitor speakers also flow nicely with the Bass from the Subwoofer. However, I will comment on the Bass Subwoofer in my next review, the Subwoofer is "boomy" not precise in replicating true Bass sounds!!

The review headline is not a typo. I needed a pair of dedicated speakers in the kitchen, and this model proved to be a reasonable combination of price, light weight, and sound quality.

The lightness came into play, as they were going to be on top of flimsy builder-grade kitchen cabinets. I originally wanted a cheaper pair of speakers, but they turned out to be bigger and weigh a lot more than the ProMonitor 800s.

One listen with in the test area helped seal the deal for me. Plus, the 800s carry a high waf value (old married guys are familiar with this term, and newly married ones will be).

Of course, ABT's listening area is not the same as a real-world environment, especially when taking into account existing equipment.

It worked fine when driven by a Philips MCM530 shelf system, filling the kitchen with music of sufficient volume without disturbig anyone who should happen to be two rooms away.

The original setup called for the stereo & stock speakers to be in the dining room, which is situated in between the kitchen and living room. That's fine, but because the layout serves as to act as a baffle relative to anyone in the kitchen, I would have to crank up the volume just to hear music in the kitchen, which would disturb my wife's telly watching in the living room.

So yeah, I think I made a good purchase.

These speakers are sold individually and without cables. I guess the prevailing thought would be the owner will do something custom with cabling. I was no exception, as I needed to run in-wall 16ga x 4 speaker wire in a manner to as not to be hideous (remember that waf thing I mentioned). Hint: a low voltage cable stapler became my best friend in the ordeal, not to mention a 1/4" and a 5/8" drill bits, raceway boxes, banana plugs, 18ga speaker wire, and speaker conector faceplates (the banana plug/binder post type).

Next on my list is an A/B switcher, so I can choose between the dining room or kitchen speakers.

The sales guy was most helpful in determining the most appropriate product, taking into account lightness, sound quality, and price. Warehouse pickup was quick as well.

being used as 5.1 background speakers with pm 1000 mains, 2000 center and 1000 sub, in a rather large room. denon 2311 for power. plenty of very clear sound. impressive system.

This is a GREAT speaker for its size and price. I use them to complete a 7 speaker surround system and they FILL the room with sound!

You will not be disappointed with this line of speakers. I use these for my surrounds, also have the 1000's and the 2000 for the center. The 800's sound great for a small speaker. If you are considering buying this, stop reading reviews and do it - trust me. ABT is awesome [...]
