For the longest, I’ve wanted a complete surround sound system for my medium size listening area. To have good surround system, you must have a good sub that complements the receiver and speakers. My previous home theatre subs were, JBL S120PII (300 continuous w) and the Klipsch Synergy sub12 (300 continuous w, 650 max w). These subs did me well for a while, but over time, I notice these subs were two boomy and over powered my speakers. I wanted a sub with deep bass that complemented the speakers. I went over one my friend’s house who had just purchased new surround sound system. For a sub, he had the Velodyne SPL 1500. I had never heard of Velodyne Subs. After he gave me a sample, I fell in love with Velodyne Subs. I went and bought a new surround system: Klipsch Quintet 3 Speakers, Harmon Kardon AVR 247 receiver. I didn’t want to spend more than $800 on a sub. After some detective work on Velodyne subs, I decided to get the Velodyne SPL 800R (small plays big series, 1000watts of continuous power, 2000w max power). I found out that the average cost for this sub was between[$]. [$] Then came judgment day when I got the system together and decided to test the sub. My movie of choice was Jurassic Park. When Jurassic Park came out in the theatres, I was 13yrs old, I’m now 26. I’ve seen it a few times between, but it was never like the first time. Once I turned on the sub, I was like, "Hollllllly Smooookes". I was speechless of the punch that this little sub could output. Especially the scene when the T-Rex started to approach with the vibrating water cup. You can’t ask for anything better than a crisp, clear, deep bass with a Jurassic punch. My Jurassic Park experience this time was better than the first. The performance of this sub was beyond my expectations. If you’re not looking to spend more than $1000 on a sub, get the Velodyne SPL 800R and you will not be disappointed. After a little more research on Velodyne subs, I came to found that it was the number 1 rated home theatre Subwoofer Company.
