Apple MA070G White iPod Radio Remote - MA070GD

Listen to FM radio on your iPod and control everything with a convenient wired remote. You also get a set of earphones with a shorter cable that's a perfect fit for the remote. Compatible with iPod nano and iPod with video.

Features:

  • About The FM Radio
Just plug in your iPod Radio Remote and select "Radio" from the main iPod menu. Tuning takes place right there in the color display with your Click Wheel, just as you'd set a classic analog radio. Easily mark a favorite station for quick access later, and switch between favorite stations using either the iPod or the remote. If you're listening to a station that supports the Radio Data System (RDS) standard, you can even see song title/artist or radio station information in the iPod display.* The iPod Radio Remote supports FM stations from 87.5 to 107.9MHz (in both the US and European standards) and 76 to 90MHz (the Japanese standard). You can switch between the different standards when traveling.
  • About The Remote Control
With the wired remote, you can control slideshow, video and music playback — adjust volume, skip forward/back within a playlist -- plus switch between radio stations and turn the radio on or off, even if your iPod is in your pocket or backpack. Clip the remote to your lapel, shirt or collar for easy access, and activate the hold switch to eliminate unwanted button presses. At just over half an ounce in weight (15.7 grams), the compact remote features a simple, familiar interface and plugs into the Dock connection on your iPod or iPod nano. The included pair of Apple Earphones has a cable that's a few inches shorter than a standard earphone cable, making it the perfect fit. You can plug it into the 3.5mm stereo minijack port on the remote, or use another favorite set of earphones. Because the iPod Radio Remote is powered by the iPod itself — no extra batteries required -- using the FM radio will affect iPod playback time.

Compatibility:

  • iPod nano, iPod with video
  • Requires iPod software v1.1 or later

Approximate Weight:

  • Shipping: 5 lbs

Footnote:

  1. RDS is currently not supported in Japan

Good product, needs better reception

BOTTOM LINE No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
Simple to set up and use and it generally works well. I travel a lot for work and wish it got better reception. I have found that if I touch the iPod or cables that helps and I recall reading somewhere that the cables serve as the antennae so I'm going to experiment with moving them around. I also travel by motorcycle and that may have something do do with it. The other problem, and a BIG one in my opinion, is there is waaaaay too much cable, even with the shorter headphones provided. It either needs MUCH shorter headphones or attach the unit directly to the iPod and lose the "remote" controal functions.
Pros: Good Quality, Easy Setup, Fast Setup
Best Uses: Office, Home
Cons: Spotty reception, Cables too long

I love that I have the ability to listen to the radio with my ipod with this little gizmo! It is a great device but there are a few problems with it: 1. The cables are really long, 2. The reception occasionally goes in and out, 3. You cannot switch from the radio to your songs from the remote, you must use your ipod for that.
Cons: Cables too long, Poor reception at times
Pros: Easy Setup, Good Quality, Fast Setup
Best Uses: Home

Product works as advertised

BOTTOM LINE Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.
I bought this model hoping to get the best quality since it is a genuine Apple product. I agree with the other reviewer that said it is way too expensive and should be a standard part of an IPod. Being expensive seems to be the case of anything that has to do with an IPod; cases, earphones, etc.. The quality is excellent but I would have preferred the design to be different. Who really needs a "remote" for an IPod? I just wanted the FM tuner. I bought an IPod because my car stereo has an IPod port but the major reason for adding an FM tuner was to use it to listen to the TVs at my gym as I run the treadmill. I have to coil all the extra wire and clip it to my IPod arm band. Less wire would have been great. The reception seems to be OK although I think the MP3 player I used previously that had a built in tuner got just slightly better reception.
Pros: Adds Functionality, Easy to Set Up
Cons: Extra wire

BOTTOM LINE Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.
Product works as advertised. Easy to use with IPod. Nice to add radio feature to IPod for traveling when you need to get local information. The only con is the range of the unit because it is small. However, if you aren't in the sticks you should be able to pick up most local stations.
Cons: Has range trouble
Pros: Lightweight, Adds Functionality, Easy to Set Up
Best Uses: Travel

Great product!!

BOTTOM LINE Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.
Its great, easy to use. The headphones act like the antenna so sometimes you got to move the Ipod radio to get good reception....I am happy with the product but the price is too high. This should be a feature that should come with Ipod software to avoid adapting this remote. I have a black ipod classic and this white ipod radio does not look that nice with it....
