This is the filter my refrigerator requires. I particularly like the taste free ice it produces. It is certainly easy to remove and install, but it is a pain to have to flush two gallons of water through it when first installed. If you don't, you will be sorry with the initial taste.

Faucet water isn't chlorinated very much, but I don't like ANY chlorine taste. Use the filter in my refrigerator and there is no chlorine taste at all. I'm surprised there is none. Great filter.

I wish the refrigerator/filter cartridge was equipped to indicate time to replace based on usage, and not by date of installation. I don't use my water or ice very often so I'm sure the filter is actually good for several weeks beyond the time I'm alerted to replace it. I wish I knew if once you insert the filter if you can take it out and replace the cap and the life span of it NOT be affected. I took out the old one to test the new one. The old one still had life but I was afraid to let the new one sit out since I had put it in, I was afraid I would shorten its lifespan if I did not go ahead and use it right then.

This filter provides great tasting water with good flow rate. It got rid of all the chlorine smell/taste in our tap water. However, it is only good for 200 gallons according to the manufacturer. That is about 4-6 months for usage by the two people in my home.

This product is easy to use and does it's job. We get quality water and only takes about 2 minutes to change the filter. Last a year for us. We set up a routine to change every fall along with batteries in smoke detectors, alarm clock back-ups, weather radios, etc. Change every fall when we change clocks. Probably would last longer with only 2 adults, but just to quick and easy to change to worry about trying to stretch it.

Great substitute for the Kenmore brand!

Good substitute filter for the more expensive Kenmore brand, which is about $50. This filter worked well. Water tasted better and was clearer. The only drawback was that the refrigerator's "replace filter" light turned on within 2 weeks after this particular filter was put in. Don't know if this was a defective one or not. I still left it in because it was only two weeks old. (The filter is usually only to be replaced about every 6 months, unless you filter a lot of water - but I think mine is within normal use.) I bought another one, so I will see if that one does the same thing. Other than that, everything else with it is great - still seems to be working fine. Water still tastes good & is clear.

Be careful on your first use after replacement. After filling a glass of water and removing it, water continued to run out of the dispenser for almost 30 seconds. I assume it must have been air in the lines as the problem cleared up afterwards

The only thing I don't like about this filter is that it allows lot of air into the line when changing it out. It takes quite a bit of water to run through before it stops spitting at you.

uncertain about water at first

Both times I used a new one, the water was cloudy for the first couple gallon or so. I'm not sure what this stuff is that is coming out of the filter. Afterwards, it seems to work great, but I haven't done any tests.

The Pur filtration filter is a great value! I love the fact that once installed, it is ready to go -- no prep filtration needed. I also have a Brita on Tap filtration system and I need to run through several gallons of water before it is ready to be used... Not a great requirement for water shortage California!

I have used this type of filter for my fridge for 2.5 years, replacing every 6 months. Before purchasing a fridge with a water dispenser and filter system, I had previously used Brita. Both the Whirlpool filter and Brita do a good job but I feel at times, depending on the time of year, there is less of a chlorine taste in my area's water with the Whirlpool filter. Easy to replace this filter with or without following the manufacturer instructions. Although obvious, just remember to remove the red covers off the filter before placing into your filter system.

Filtered enthusiasm

This filter also works with our KitchenAid model. I'm not looking forward to the job of replacing these every six months over the life of the fridge, but what are you gonna do? Three gripes regarding installation: 1. Even though I thought I had installed this properly I apparently hadn't, and the results included irregular spurts of water from the dispenser and a pool of water leaked onto the floor under the fridge. Not sure what went wrong, but removing and reinstalling the filter to fix the problem. Installation of a product like this ought to be idiot-proof; in this case, it wasn't. 2. Although the box explained clearly how to remove the old filter, it didn't offer guidance for resetting the filter percentage-used indicator; you'll want to dig out your fridge's manual. (On ours, the trick is to press and hold the reset button next to the percentage indicator. But it would be nice if the fridge "knew" the filter had been replaced and reset itself.) 3. The instructions didn't specify the need to remove the new filter's two red tube end-caps before installation. I figured it out, but it gave me pause. One gripe regarding packaging: Can -- or should -- used filters be recycled? Disposal advice ought to be standard on packaging for pricey but small hunks of hardware like this, but I don't see anything.

I've used other in-line water filters before but never one that worked as well as this one. The design makes it very easy to maintain so there's no excuse not to change it every six months or so. No more oder in the ice cubes too. Our coffee maker loves it too and hasn't required descaling since we switched over to this filter in our new refrigerator one year ago (it used to require descaling once every few months).You can't beat the price and service here at [...] either.

It created a milky color with the water at first, but then went away after a couple days. I'm not sure if that's normal or not, none of the instructions said anything. It's been a few weeks now, and we're all still alive...

"It tastes better"

I had never noticed a difference in the quality of water delivered through a refrigerator filter until we purchase this Whirlpool model. It really does make a difference. The filter lasts between 5 and 6 months, and you really can tell when it needs to be changed, even if you ignore the indicator light telling you to do so. My only complaint is that you need to lie flat on your stomach to install the new filter. At least the filter is accessible from the front of the refrigertor, and there is no need to remove the front grill panel.
