About Me Avid Cook
I bought this fridge brand new and about 5 months later a shelf broke. Another two months after that another shelf broke. I've glued them together and no matter what - they come apart. Currently I am down to only one shelf - piled HIGH with stuff. I do not recommend this fridge on this factor alone. As much as I love opening my fridge and having everything spill onto the floor - I don't recommend.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Merchant response: The Avanti refrigerator has a one year warranty, the shelves are covered and may be replaced.

About Me Conservative
It is a great frige, this should be standard in all apartments and houses with 2 or less people or possibly 3 people. This model I choose because it is the most energy efficient that I have ever found. Its temp is great and it fit everything in it my old frige did. It had to do that in order to be accepted by my roomates. The freezer freezes and the frige is cold. It has really no sound at all. This one works for anyone that cares about keeping the planet safe for their kids or grand kids or other people at all and the earth. The freezer has all my frozen food and it is still frozen. The frige keeps my bottled water cold. It did not get even warm so there was no heat off it. Mine never got hot in the back. This should be your refrigerator as well it works great, I wouldn't pay for any less. If I have problems I will post them but so far it is the best. My old frige was from about 1965.

Ordered this Avanti because it seemed like the best designed of the few refrigerators currently available that would fit in my cramped kitchen. Just delivered this morning, so all I have to offer are first impressions-- can't vouch for durability yet.Very quiet operation, but items I transfered from my old refrigerator seem less cold now. Milk placed in the front might not be keeping too well. Awkward solution: placing the most perishable items in back, against the cooling wall, or in the freezer. Don't expect items on door to stay very cold. Freezer okay, but certainly not "0º." No worry at least about left-overs icing up in the fridge, that's for sure.Sold as compact, space-saving "apartment" refrigerator, but manual specifies minimum clearance of FIVE INCHES, side and back. Who ever keeps their refrigerator sticking out so far from the wall?! As the sides of this unit can get pretty warm near the top around the freezer, you really do have to keep space around it for ventilation. So don't expect to be able to cram this refrigerator into a corner or anything. For its price though (and it does generally retail for just about the lowest of any refrigerator/freezer of that size on the market) this Avanti really isn't too bad. With glass shelves and clear door racks and crisper, the interior is on par with much more upscale units. And while for some reason it doesn't have an energy star rating (that I am aware of at least) its Energy Guide (that yellow sticker right on the front) claims an annual consumption of only 302 kWh, the lowest for any model in that class. Of course this unit is not frost-free, but rather cycle-defrost, which means that frost will eventually build up in the freezer compartment, and in that compartment only. This is not a big deal, as the doors on the Avanti seal snugly, protecting against the moisture that forms frost. Also the interior finish is as sleek as the exterior, so what ever frost does eventually accumulate is pretty easy to remove with the little plastic scrapper that comes included.Considering that this [...] has a capacity of only 7.5 c.f., it fits a goodly assortment of food stuffs. The door rack can hold three half-gallon containers and the bins are roomy enough to hold quart containers and long-necked bottles like ketchup and dressings; the top bin even stores eggs. The vegetable crisper is kinda shallow, but at least it is full width and so can accommodate such unwieldy produce as celery and rhubarb and the like. While the glass shelves and door bins are "adjustable," the interior is really too small to play around with much. To change how it comes arranged, the only practical option would be just to remove a shelf, to make room for taller vessels. As I don't purchase milk in gallons, the default configuration suited me fine. The manual describes this model as having a reversible door hinge, but provides no printed instructions for such (says to call customer service). Comes with additional, mirror-image plastic pivot for mounting on other side, but refrigerator door frame is missing just the one tiny little screw hole for keeping it aligned. (All other dropouts are correct.) Think it might work anyway without the screw, or could probably be drilled out easily. Will see. Fortunately this appliance is very light for its size and is easy to move around on its rollers, so if I have to mess around with it some in order to reverse the hinges that shouldn't be a problem. But if the milk I bought today tastes sour tomorrow, that WILL be a problem.
