GE Spacemaker Over-The-Range White Microwave Oven - JVM1540DNWW

mine is just 2 yrs and 4 months old since purchase. it just died in the middle of heating up food. I am thinking it is the door when it don't get properly close coz when I push it would start working again. It still looked so brand new but is already broken. i am so disappointed with this product. I thought this is a durable brand.I am crossing my fingers for my other kitchen appiiances.

Does the job, either reheating leftovers, or cooking a quick meal. Make sure you have a cabinet above it so you can install it easily. I did not so I had to install one first, then the microwave.

Use it mostly to reheat almost every day. I do not use 90% of functionality, but have no complaints. Use express buttons a lot.

I don't understand how some people would give a bad grade for this microwave oven? Some said it was noisy? This is a very quiet and efficient appliance. Well worth your money. Buy it!

Fan doesn't have a low speed. It is high & low-high. The fan is also in the middle, where there are no burners. Light has tiny light or no light. The light is in the back so it lights up the back of my stove, not what I'm cooking. The bottom part of the door that overhangs (hangs low) is just another inconvenient place to clean. No reason for it there. Buttons are set for express cook. If you aren't using that function, you have to press time cook button first. I don't prefer to do that.When you do use express buttons, it takes a long time before the time comes up, so you don't know what it's going to do. The word EXPRESS stays there. I bought it online, without seeing it & I've learned my lesson. I would not have bought this one if I had gone to the store & tried it there.

Have owned the GE JVM1540 microwave for about 16 months. It quit on me and I called a GE service guy to come out and check the unit. He said the fuse had blown that controls the unit, he replaced it and assured me all would be okay. I told him that we had trouble from time to time with the light inside not coming on when the door was opened and the unit continuing to run for a few seconds after the door was opened while in use but he said that was not possible. Any way he went on his way and about 2 days later the unit quit again, I called him again, he came out and said the fuse had blown out again, so he replaced it, rechecked all the electronics of the unit and said it must have been a bad fuse. It lasted 3 days this time, so I call again and now he tells me that I am opening the door the wrong way and that is whats blowing the fuse. I guess he thinks I just got off of the TURNIP truck. Evidently he will not come back out so I try the GE people, they have not returned any response for a month. I dont have much faith in this GE brand or the people they reccommend for service. Frustrated in Florida...

This was an exact fit which replaced a broken down Kenmore. I didn't have to replace the back panel because the GE fit so perfectly. This saved a lot of time. All I can say...For the Price this is your Best Choice. PS It came in Bisque, so I was able to match the existing stove color.

Our Kitchen Aid microwave died right in the middle of cooking something. It was less than 10 years old, so we decided to try another brand. [...] now we love our new microwave. It works great, and much prefer it over our older KitchenAid model. It is so user friendly!Thanks ABT!

we had the 10 year old version of this model and never had a problem. It's much quieter and the door doesn't make a loud noise when you close it like the older one

We purchased this microwave as a replacement for the original one we installed in our home 11 years ago. It works well and we have had no issues.

The Whirlpool microwave [...] it did not fit and the installer said he can't believe they sold it to us. Th salesperson assured us that it was perfect. An installer returned several days later with the GE model which fit perfectly. It was just slightly irritating and all is well now.

Just replaced our older Sharp model micro with this new GE JVM1540. After reading the reviews I was concerned about the noise level, but I have to say this micro is soooo much quieter than my old one. The vent fan is quiet as well as during the cooking process. The control panel was easy to learn, I didnt even need to read the manual. We defrosted meat and it came out perfect. Installation was easy. Read the manual about changing the vent from "recycling" the air to outside venting (if you have an direct vent to the outside)..we almost missed this option. So far so good. The only down side is the door design. The curved front looks a bit out of place against the straight line of the cabinets. But I can get used to that.

The GE JVM1540DN1WW is worth its weight in dead popcorn kernels...because you'll get a lot of those if you use its popcorn key. For the person who loves this GE microwave hood so much; it's too bad you already bought yours. You could have fished my spanking-new one out of the garbage can for free. Inexpensive should not mean nearly useless. During operation, the oven is painfully slow. The power is so weak, it takes twice as long as my 15 year-old Panasonic countertop microwave to thoroughly heat most things. The special touch keys to set the oven to heat common things are inadequate. None of those common things gets heated properly with one press of the appropriate key. The fan is loud and does not work as well as my old hood fan. The cook-top light on the underside is very poor. I frequently feel like I need to hook my head between the microwave and my cook-top to see what I am doing when I cook on my stove in the evening. It's actually dangerous because I have to lean over hot burners in order to see better in the poor light. I've read about some of this model where the touch pads have failed when the model was a year or less old. Unlike those that have required parts and labor equal to the cost of total microwave replacement of the same model, my touch pad is currently operational, though not satisfactory. Within about a month of purchasing JVM1540DN1WW, I did what I should have done in the first place; I went to the appliance store to test some microwaves. I brought food and after some experimentation, found a GE microwave hood that is almost as powerful as my old Panasonic countertop model. It has better light and a quieter fan than the GE JVM1540DN1WW. It is costing me over twice as much. By the way, the appliance store people did not offer to take the cheaper one back, even though it was used less than two weeks in an adult household. I cannot in good conscience sell it or give it to a friend so it is going in the garbage. If this site had a two thumbs down rating, that is what I would give GE JVM1540DN1WW. I would have had more fun flushing the money down the toilet one dollar at a time. Come to think of it, I might have had better luck spending the money on a bundle of lottery tickets!

The fan is noisey but I don't know if it more noisey than other similar product. I is a good product for the price.

I have mostly used this microwave to warm up food and cook popcorn. However, when I have had to use the vent it was loud. Overall, for the price, I think this was a good buy.

A fine microwave. Will get us through until we remodel the kitchen within the next few years.

This is supposed to be a "spacemaker", but the unnecessary addition of the rounded bottom on the door effectively reduces the space between the stove top and the microwave. This makes handling of tall pots and pans quite awkward and even hazardous. The manufacturer needs to return to the straight line design.

I had originally purchased a Whirlpool Microwave hood to replace a now-lamented Amana unit, but the Whirlpool was damaged during installation so I returned it and got this GE instead. This is not perfect (controls hard to read, somewhat non-intuitive) but the GE is notably quieter and less protuberant than the Whirlpool. Seems to be the best of a mediocre bunch based on my research.

I purchased this microwave for a rental property. I haven't heard anything negative from the tenant so I assume all is well. The microwave looks real nice and seemed to be easy to use.

So far it is everything I expected from a microwave. The exhaust vent works best if the air is vented outside but the Charcoal filter is adequate for dissipating steam and cooking odors. I purchased 2 one for a rental and one for myself.

This GE Spacemaker has replaced my 19 year old GE Spacemaker. Cooks quicker and is very quiet. Very pleased with the product and the price was reasonable!

Great basic microwave. Small yet powerful.

Great looking. The vent fan runs on high every time you use the microwave. There is no way to turn it off. So, it is noisy. We are uninstalling it, after hours of work, and returning it.

This microwave is perfect for our family. It handles all of my cooking needs as "head chef", yet the express cook buttons make it simple enough for the kids! We love the night-light feature, too-

Stainless is attractive

Used mostly for light cooking and re-heating. Powerful and quiet. Surface light isn't very bright.

I would not buy this unless you can stand the loudness. The price, look and quality are there... that's why I am not returning it.

The only down side to this microwave is that the fan can be a bit loud and when the stove heats up to high the fan turns on and you can't turn it off.
