Remote not compatible with Samsung TV

This is a very good unit. I purchased this tunerless/low cost unit as a replacement for an old JVC combo for my elderly father, who still likes to record and play VCR tapes as well as play DVD's.The problem is that the remote is not compatible with Samsung TV's.I called SONY USA and they agreed that the remote is not compatable with Samsung. All other Sony remotes are also non compatible with Samsung TV's. Is this strange or what? The rep said he would have an engineer get back to me. I'm still waiting a month later. Meanwhile , my dad is operating the unit using a combo of Cable /TV/ and the Sony remotes. He's doing fine and all is working.

It fits in to my smaller space under the HD TV stand. Produces a nice picture. I needed both a VHS player and DVD player. The price was very reasonable.

A good value. Be aware that it does not have a TV tuner and that if you have a cable box, you'll need to buy an extra RCA cable. But I guess why it's less expensive. Picture quality is good, and it's easy to use.

For the price, this DVD/VHS combo is a bargain. In the three weeks I've been using this player, the performance has been flawless. The installation is simple and straightforward, and the remote is easy to program for your TV. I have found the picture and sound to be excellent and am amazed that my DVD and VHS movies look so much better on this machine. The only drawback is that the deck doesn't have a tuner. I don't have any problem with this since I have another deck which does contain a tuner and can use that for the rare occasions when I want to record a program. In short, if you don't absolutely require a tuner, the Sony is an excellent choice.

easy to set up, good picture, not useful as a recorder since the DVD IS ONLY A PLAYER, probably a big reason for the good price. VHS records. I use components like this as pass through for audio, like plugging an i-pod, laptop, cd player or other into the AUDIO IN and then listening through home stereo. This unit has poor audio relays for this purpose. Not a big detractor since few people do this.

I would recommend this DVD/VHS player as a well-priced and extremely fine product. It is set up to function with my new SONY 26" Bravia LCD / TV. Fine combination and my customer service people in each instance were remarkable. Also, the price at ABT is extremely competitive. Unlike some other well-known national retailers which will remain nameless, you are not dealing with a bunch of extremely young sales people.

We don't all want or need DVRs!

We attached this to our new Sony Bravia KDL-26S3000 in order to watch our 1000+ VHS movies and newer DVDs. It does a fine job and is easy to navigate between the two inputs. The remote control could be a little better: the buttons are too small and in a dimly lit room it is difficult to find the correct one. I ended up cutting Avery labels to surround the major buttons: start, stop, rewind, volume, and eject. The white border makes it easy.
