Sony DSC-S700 Silver Cyber-Shot Digital Camera - DSCS700

With 7.2 MP imaging, high sensitivity and up to 460-shot1 Stamina® battery power, the Cyber-shot® DSC-S700 digital camera is an ideal camera for starting out, stepping up or making the switch from film to digital. Its 3X optical zoom lens, 24MB2 internal memory capacity and bright 2.4”3 LCD screen add up to a great combination of high-value features for first-time users. Boasting a sophisticated metal body, compact design and affordable price, the DSC-S700 easily fits into your travel plans or budget.

Features:

  • 7.2 Megapixel Super HAD™ CCD
More megapixels give you more detail and definition when you make big prints or crop in tight on your subject. The advanced Super HAD™ (Hole Accumulated Diode) CCD design allows more light to pass to each pixel, increasing sensitivity and reducing noise.
  • 3X Optical Zoom Lens
The 3X optical zoom helps bring distant subjects closer and lets you frame shots quickly for better composition—a real advantage for family sports, outdoor fun and travel photos.
  • High Sensitivity
With high sensitivity of ISO 1000, the DSC-S700 gives you better shots in low light so you can shoot without flash to preserve the mood—great for birthday parties, indoor gatherings and candid portraits.
  • Stamina® Battery Power
Capture up to 100 shots with the supplied AA alkaline batteries. Or, increase your shooting capacity to an amazing 4603 shots with optional Sony NiMH rechargeable batteries (NH-AA-2DB).
  • 24MB4 Internal Memory
You don’t need a flash memory card, because the DSC-S700 allows you to capture images with in-camera convenience. Then easily transfer your shots to optional Memory Stick Duo™ media, upload photos to your computer or make prints on your Picture Station™ digital printer.
  • Memory Stick Duo™ Media Convenience
The DSC-S700 also has a built-in slot for optional Memory Stick Duo™ media—the compact, high-capacity storage media that are compatible with millions of devices worldwide.
  • Bright 2.4”5 LCD Screen
The DSC-S700 provides a bright LCD screen composing shots, checking results, sharing your photos on location and reading camera setup menus even in full sunlight.
  • Convenient Photo Modes
To adjust quickly for specific shooting situations, the DSC-S700 lets you choose from several convenient photo modes: Auto, P-Auto, and Scene selections for twilight, twilight portrait, landscape, soft snap, snow, high sensitivity and beach environments.
  • QVGA Movie Mode
The DSC-S700 can capture 320 x 240 audio/video clips at high frame rate (up to 30 frames per second6), with length limited only by the capacity of your media.
  • Burst Mode
You can fire off three shots automatically at 1-second intervals in VGA standard mode or 1.5-second intervals in 7.2 MP mode.
  • Cyber-shot Viewer Software
The viewer software makes it easier to upload images from camera or Memory Stick Duo™ media, then organize and browse through photos on your PC screen by simply scrolling through thumbnail images.

Good Camera,Right Shop..Just think again
Reviewed by Thiru - Living between budget and tech (Casual user) from Sunnyvale, CA on Feb 27, 2008

BOTTOM LINE No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
Starting with the good things about this camera, this is compact, takes nice pictures, fits under budget (as well as in pocket), high resolution, etc. Against my good things, here is the bad things that makes this camera unfit for me. 1. This camera doesn't have a view finder. Only using the LCD it is not possible to take pictures outdoor in a sunny day. Need to find shadow to take picture. 2. Though the price looks cheap for this, the accessories are expensive like you need to spend twice for a Duo memory card compared to one that of SD card. Luckily this comes with AA batteries which does not lead to extra expenses. Think of toal cost of Ownership. 3. Always Sony has its custom accessories for all its products. So if you have Sony products, this could be a good choice. I have other Canon products in which the cable I can use for my camera, mobile, external hard drive, etc. Also I do have couple of SD cards which I can use interchangeably. But not with this camera. So, think of your usability. 4. I observed a strange noise while the zoom in or zoom out from the motor which I thought would be a defect. Later I found the same noise from another sony camera. May all the sony camera have the same technology and the same noise which I don't prefer. Please double check on it. 5. Comparing today's technology and price, 3x optical zoom looks like outdated, wherein we can get a 4x by having a little flexibility in our budget. 6. If you are little flexible with you budget, you will get an additional feature like good movie shooting mode integrated camera than this one. I tried to compromise all my negative to one big positive with this camera is it's compactness. Finally I compromised the compactness and returned this camera to get other one by having a little flexibility in my budget. Think and decide.
Pros: Easy to Keep Clean, Strong Construction, Bright LCD, Comfortable Controls, Easy Setup, Short Lag Time
Best Uses: Fun
Cons: No Viewfinder Noisy

I am a total amateur and was nervous, but the clear instructions made set-up easy. Have not fully explored the more sophisticated settings or video, but all are easy to find. Was pleasantly surprised to see that the screen images are far fuzzier than the actual shots themselves.
