GOOD VALUE
By Radio hound from Denver, CO on 08/13/2009.
Cons: I don't like the antenna
Best Uses: In my home office, Home Use, Office Use
Pros: Lightweight, Good Sound, Powerful
Describe Yourself: Practical
Good power for its size. If the antenna connection was not so unusual I would have replaced it with an after market one. Because of the area I am in, reception for AM/FM is difficult. But I rigged an extension to the FM wire[not difficult] and it works fine. Well worth the money. A vert good value. As usual ABT is very freindly and easy to work with.
Nice Product
By Mac from New Orleans, LA on 05/18/2009.
Pros: Compact, Durable, Lightweight, Good Sound, Great Features
Best Uses: Home Use

Nice product. Great addition to my patio.
Good for the price
By Fr. Michael from Chicago, IL on 04/26/2009.
Pros: Compact, Good Sound
Best Uses: Home Use
Cons: No "RCA" connection, Limited equalizer choices
Describe Yourself: Practical
With equalizer choices, sound is good, but not the best [I guess I was spoiled a bit by the more expensive unit it replaced :)]. Would be nice to have RCA connections for my cassette deck. I like the compactness. So far, no problems with this unit.
Good sound, value priced, basic unit
By Bob the Geezer from St.Cloud, MN on 03/10/2009.
Pros: Easy To Set Up, Great Sound, Easy Controls
Best Uses: Smaller Rooms, Offices, Basic Use
Describe Yourself: Technically Challenged, Practical
Cons: Unattractive Design
The Sony MHCEC55 is a nice, compact unit with very good sound at an affordable price. I added two smaller speakers to the unit for better sound in a larger room. My only complaint is the fact it was advertised with a cassette player and it DOES NOT have one. Since this unit was to replace my old Aiwa which had a dual cassette deck, I can no longer listen to some of my favorite old music.
Nice affordable sound
By ryde from Lincoln, NE on 01/5/2009.
Pros: Easy To Set Up, Great Sound, Easy Controls
Best Uses: Larger Rooms, Offices, Basic Use, Smaller Rooms
Describe Yourself: Tech Savvy, Audiophile
Cons: Unattractive Design
Great little stereo for the money. 3-disc changer that can play mp3's is nice feature. It even comes with a remote! The only downside is that it can't handle the bass if you really crank it up.

So far for playing Christmas music the sound has been great, a three disc tray helps to keep from constantly loading.

Hard to beat for the price
By Harley Mech from Mesa, AZ on 07/28/2008.
Pros: Attractive Design, Durable, Great Sound, Easy Controls, Doesn't Skip, Easy To Set Up
Describe Yourself: Audiophile, Professional, Practical
Cons: Limited tone control
Best Uses: Shopgarage
I replaced a smaller single disc Sony player with the MHCEC55 for use in my shop/garage. I spend a lot of time there and the increased power fills the room perfectly. The ability to load three discs and play them randomly is a real plus. The size is good; not too small or too big. I have mine in a cabinet yet have to open the door and position it so the rear fan draws in an adequate amount of cooling air. That is a bit of a hassle but I can live with it. The only down side to this unit is the inability to manually adjust the bass and treble. The EQ presets are adequate and actually sound quite good after you get use to the fact that you are only in limited control.

A tiny, light weight but big sound
By jcmolero from San Cristobal, Tachira, Venezuela on 03/9/2008.
Describe Yourself: Audiophile, Musically Inclined
Pros: Great Sound, Easy To Set Up, Deck hide from front view, High effic tweeters, Easy Controls, Light and narrow, Remo same as bigger model, Attractive Design
Best Uses: Larger Rooms, Smaller Rooms, Audiophiles
Cons: Mechanical deck, No manual eq, Somewhat deeper unit, Timer without aux option, No more than 20 preset fm
I principally bought this model so that can put on my room, without sub woof so that doesnt room for place one. The speakers sounds excellent highs and the bass sounds better if the speakers are located a few centimeters ahead the wall, and over a bookshelf (not inside a section because sounds with very resonance). On the same bookshelf is a turntable, but not causes a feedback even if has many volume on the unit. The tapes sounds excellent only if no were the fact that it's mechanical and can't be controlled by remote, doesn't offer rec timer but just program a on time, when the unit is off just press rec so that when the time arrives, tape begins to rec itself! (just a trick of a aiwa manual). Radio is very sensitive so that have to find the right position in that stronger signal don't cover a weak one. CD's sounds excellent and don't have almost skips (only if is very scratched or has a hole on label) CDRW don't need to finalize to start to listen mp3s and support up to 10 sessions. Aux in is excellent plug shape and connect tv, turntable, mp3 sony or anything that fits that plug. Speakers colors are different as shown, mine are silver on the vertical borders and have black horn tweeters, around the woofer and the ducts, looks better than the silver only
Good value
By TJ from Roswell, Ga. on 01/22/2008.
Best Uses: Basic Use
Pros: Easy To Set Up, Attractive Design, Great Sound, Good Reception, Easy Controls
Describe Yourself: Practical
We use the unit primarily in the kitchen and run it all day. It works very well on all operating modes. Would prefer separate bass and treble controls but it is not a major problem. There is very little distortion as the volume increases. It is a good value.
Perfect stereo for son's room!
By Dianne from Baltimore, MD on 12/26/2007.
Best Uses: Basic Use, Smaller Rooms
Pros: Powerful, Attractive Design, Easy To Set Up, Great Sound, Easy Controls
Describe Yourself: Practical
This is my 11 year-old son's first stereo system, and he is thrilled with it. It's perfect for his bedroom and the sound quality is far better than we were even hoping for. The 3 CD changer works like a charm. The remote is easy to use and everything about set-up and use is intuitive.

GOOD BUY
By Bob from McMinnville, TN on 10/9/2007.
Pros: Easy To Set Up, Good sound
Describe Yourself: Electrical Engineer
Best Uses: In my workshop
Cons: Somewhat confusing to use
I was disappointed that there isn't a pause feature when playing CDs. Initially it was a little awkward to use but now that I have had it for several weeks that part is ok.
