HQV Reon-VX Chip for High-Performance Video Processing (with 1080p Upscaling)
The TX-NR905 is the world’s first A/V receiver to incorporate HQV Reon-VX video processing. HQV Reon-VX will scale all video signals to 1080p without the visible inconsistencies found in less competent scalers. It also provides the ultimate support for standard and high-definition deinterlacing; for filtering of jaggies and artifacts; and for the reduction of random, “mosquito” and block (codec) noise. HQV Reon-VX enables color region enhancement and the rendering of more than one billion colors.

Ultra 2 certification means that the TX-NR905 can easily handle the requirements of a home theater where the viewing distance from screen to seat is greater than 12 feet and the room volume is greater than 3000 cubic feet. Among its technologies, Advanced Speaker Array (ASA) digitally reconfigures surround speakers for three listening modes: movies, music and gaming. You also benefit from Boundary Gain Compensation (BGC), which realizes a truer, more accurate bass response. Network* for Streaming Audio Files and Internet Radio
The TX-NR905's network gives you access to digital music files (AAC, WMA, MP3, WAV) via an Ethernet network between the TX-NR905 and your computer. It also enables you to access music files from a USB mass storage device or a portable audio player through the USB port on the TX-NR905’s front panel. At the heart of the network is Windows Media Connect or Windows Media Player (the TX-NR905 is Microsoft PlaysForSure certified), which enable the TX-NR905 to play DRM music downloads from Napster and CDquality files from MusicGiants. For internet radio, you can access stations that use MP3 or WMA streaming. You can enter URLs (including those for podcasts) directly into your computer’s web browser, or you can enter them with your remote control. Wow, where to begin? First off, I use the Onkyo TX-NR905 as the backbone to my home entertainment system. It drives a 5.1 setup of Definitive Technology speakers. (Soon to be 7.1) Not only do I watch movies and TV, but I play console games with my PS3 and Xbox360, I stream music from my PC, I stream movies from my PC through my PS3, and I listen to Sirius and Internet radio. The 905 handles these tasks effortlessly with crystal clear audio. The upconversion from the REON processor could be better, but the clarity from 480i and 480p to 1080p is nothing to complain about. Another GREAT aspect is the fact that the 905 that I ordered from ABT came already loaded with the latest firmware and DSP updates. Below is what I get when querying the 905: Main 9....1.08 / 08223A SR8051...08214A SR8052...07518A SR8053...07820B Hopefully that information will relieve some of the skeptical buyers out there. The newest firmware and DSP updates resolve the DTS HD-MA bomb as well as the audio switching delay and lip-sync issues that were present in the previous releases of firmware. There are only couple minor cons I can think of when it comes to this receiver. First, the Onkyo itself is fairly heavy as well as large in dimensions. You will want to make sure that it will fit in your entertainment center/rack. Youll want your entertainment center to be at least 20 inches deep in order to give the 905 room for connecting cables and such. It is also a bit taller than some receivers. The other con is the fact that it gets fairly hot. Even sitting idle, the back of the 905 can become very warm to the touch, so make sure you give it plenty of breathing room.

The onkyo has a lot going for it. The sound is amazing. It has more than enough power to fill a large room. It also has onboard decoding of all the latest surround formats. The HD radio is excellent, as is the video conversion.

Excellent AV receiver, has all the bells and whistles. Very good upconversion of SD material. Love the HD Radio. Manual can be confusing, but take your time to set up this receiver.

I use the Onkyo TX-NR905 as the control center of a multi-channel music and film home entertainment system. The Onkyo handles SACD, DVD-Audio, CDs, HD-DVD, DVD upscaled to 1080p via HDMI and more with finesse and aplomb. The receiver drives 7.1 channels worth of audiophile speakers with ease. All things considered, this is a very enjoyable unit.

The unit itself is heavy. The back of the unit gets quite warm on top but no problems having it in an enclosed cabinet that allows ventilation (sanus woodbrook) No extra fans are necessary. Although some people on the forums have had some difficulties with theirs, so far I haven't had any problems. The sound is great. The audyssey would not pick up one of my speakers but I just set the speakers up manually without any problem. I usually don't like to read a manual and just figure things out myself but for all the settings available reading the manual is a must. The manual is easy to understand. I bought the receiver for both improved audio over my 10 year Yamaha and the 4 HDMI inputs. I use a Geffen switcher as I need more than 4 HDMI inputs and haven't had any HDMI handshake problems. You get a lot for your money in this unit.

The Onkyo 905 is worth every cent!!

This receiver is perfect for Blu-ray and HD DVD. I use it for gaming as well and lag is not a problem with the 905. It does magic with a 480i source and scales it up to 1080p very well.
